Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith Begin Shooting Remake Of ‘The Karate Kid’

karate_kidJackie Chan and Jaden Smith have begun filming the remake of the 1984 hit “The Karate Kid.” Filming kicked off over the weekend in Beijing, China according to Variety.

Jackie Chan will play the wise kung-fu master, a role originated by the late Pat Morita, in the film while his student in “Kung Fu Kid” will be played by Jaden Smith, the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Jaden Smith has starred in such films as “The Pursuit of Happyness” and “The Day the Earth Stood Still.”

“Kung Fu Kid”, being produced by Will Smith and is being directed by Harald Zwart (The Pink Panther 2). The remake is currently slated for a June 2010 release.

Shooting will last three months and the film will be set in modern-day Beijing.

    Not sure what to make of this, but it does seem intriguing.

    Well… they already made “The Next Karate Kid” so there is really no sense in bitching about this. The Smith kid is really pretty good (it must be in the genes) and it will be interesting to see what Chan comes up with. Maybe it will be like ‘Rumble In The Bronx’ but with more waxing on and off.
