Los Angeles based progressive rockers, Final Gravity, will be releasing their powerful new self-titiled album on November 17th, 2009. The band draws their name from a term used in brewing. In this unique brew, each member represents a main ingredient that creates the potent finished product. The band’s maior ingredients, so to speak, are guitarist Mike Clark (hops), bassist Charles Mumford (barley), drummer John Chominsky (water) and vocalist Bill Moore. As you can probably tell by now, these guys love their beer!
Final Gravity has created quite a buzz on their hometown scene of Los Angeles, California for good reason. Their sound can be best described as a beautiful mix of such influential progressive/classic rock acts as Rush, Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Led Zeppelin. However, what sets the band apart from the those iconic bands is the straight forward approach to the music that makes progressive much more accessible to the listener. This is a welcome change for fans who may be looking to discover a new band from the genre that manages to captivate them in the matter of a few moments, rather then in an epic outing.
The album kicks off with the straight ahead rock n’ roll power of “Parallel Lives” and keeps up the energetic pace with “Line’em Up,” both of which remove all doubt that the band is merely a flash in the pan. The pace of the record never slows down. The tracks selected for the album truly showcases the artistry of the band with their sharp vocals, powerful riffs and energetic beats which intrigue the listener and leave them hungry for more. In the 13 tracks on the album, the band effortlessly moves the listener by channeling the raw power and melody of the music and by not re-treading the same ground during the listening experience. It is that rawness that sucks you and keeps you interested. Again, it is that accessibility that makes this band a diamond in the rough and could really turn some heads in the “Guitar Hero” generation, something that is no easy feat in today’s world.
Standout tracks for the album include “Room 19,” “The Darkness” and “Been Wasted.” With the solid base that the band provides both themselves and their fans on this album, it will be interesting to see what the band manages to “brew” for us in the future.
