Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees For 2010 Announced!

rock-hall-of-fame

rockhalloffameThe ballot for next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been released and it proves to be just as diverse as it has been in previous years.

Potential inductees include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss, Genesis, The Stooges, Donna Summer, ABBA, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, The Chantels, The Hollies and Jimmy Cliff.

Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their debut release. Both LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both have made the ballot on their first year of eligibility. Although having been eligible for years now, Kiss finds themselves on the ballot for the first time.

Some of the names on the ballot have been there before — Donna Summer, Darlene Love, ABBA, the Chantels, and the Stooges. Out of all of those nominated, only five acts make it in to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The 25th annual induction ceremony is slated for March 15 in New York City. The inductees will be announced in December.

  1. JOHN says:

Once again, the genius of Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull is ignored…….

  2. Pete says:

I don’t iunderstand….Ask rock musician from the late 70′s through the 80′s who influennced them and the names Scorpions and UFO will show up 70% of the time. And these bands are overlooked because? Both bands started early 70′s and aree still touring!! Making and selling records. Oh well I still love em!!

  3. steve says:

how can Warren Zevon not be on this list?

  4. Alan says:

The Hollies …. ahhhhh, finally nominated! Can this truly be their turn to enter the Hall? They are without a doubt, long overdue. There are so many bands that have been influenced by their music

  5. Alan says:

It is about time this band gets the recognition it truly deserves. Perhaps this could their turn to enter the Hall. So many bands have credited them for influencing their music.

  6. Jason Price says:

Good call with mentioning Warren Zevon. He is definitely overlooked.

  7. Pat G. says:

it’s about time that a group like KISS, who has influenced so many artists over the last three decades is FINALLY getting their long-overdue recognition in the
RRHoF. Now as long as Ace and Peter are included in the celebration and Eric Carr is notably mentioned, all this time waiting for this will be worth it. And Vinnie Vincent should not be included in any way, shape, or form. Tommy and Eric are great players, but the night belongs to Gene, Ace, Paul, and Peter.

  8. grimey says:

Forget Jethro Tull and Warren Zevon…Alice Cooper has been shafted once again! Amazes me how so many acts which he has influenced (the Ramones, Talking Heads, and now Kiss potentially) can all be recognised, but not Alice himself.

    A complete joke.

  9. IPhilLuv says:

    Donna Summer
    * FIRST female singer to have a #1 album and #1 single on the Billboard charts simultaneously — a feat she accomplished again just a few months later, breaking her own record.
    * FIRST artist to have three #1 double albums on the Billboard charts consecutively with Live and More, Bad Girls, and On the Radio. (she still remains the only female artist and solo act with this accomplishment).
    * FIRST female solo artist with three #1 hits in a one year period, topping the charts with the singles “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls” and “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” – a duet with Barbara Streisand.
    * FIRST artist to achieve Gold status with a 12 inch for her single “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough).”
    * FIRST artist ever to be given a Grammy for the category “Best Rock Female Vocal Performance” for her Platinum single “Hot Stuff.”
    * FIRST artist ever to be given a Grammy for the category “Best Dance Recording” for her song “Carry On.”
    * FIRST group of artists to be inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2004, alongside The Bee Gees and Barry White.

What’s wrong with the nominating comitee?. Johnny Maestro sang lead with 2 groups, The Crests and The Brooklyn Bridge. He had over 25 hits on the charts and has been singing continuosly for 50 years. Every sweet Sixteen party starts with 16 Candles. What he’s done is better than 50% of the people already in the hall. How can they ignore him?

  11. Michael Wilkinson says:

TOMMY JAMES and the SHONDELLS have sold over 100 million records and influenced countless musicians that are household names, just like Tommy James is a household name. Do you relalize the quality of his songwriting? I doubt it! STEVE MILLER is such a great musician (guitar, harp, piano, peddle steel, vocalist, and was one of the most important figures to come out of the Summer of Love scene in San Francisco. He has had his share of lightweight songwriting, but his first five albums had some of the best songwriting in Rock and Roll history. shame, shame on the Hall of Fame!

  12. Gary MacEntee says:

Tommy James & the Shondells were the icons of the 60s. From Garage Rock (Hanky Panky) to Party Rock (Mony, Mony) with 23 million sellng gold singles. Pop hits like I Think Were Alone Now, Mirage, Gettin Together dominated the mid sixties. Tommy James then influenced the late sixties with Crimson & Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Sweet Cherry Wine & Ball Of Fire all with significant social relevance. Then long before Kenny Rogers or Olivia Newton John did a cross over Country Album “My Head, My Bed, My Red Guitar” that was critically acclaimed. Cellophane Symphony obviously influenced Pink Floyd. Then Tommy James & the Shondells’ Christian of The World was groundbreaking for a soon to be genre called Christian Rock. It is now 2009 and he is still performing & recording with the zest and quality equal to anyone in the music business. To the Hall of Fame “Open your minds, your eyes & your doors to Tommy James & The Shondells”

  13. Cheryl Harrell says:

Amen to inducting Tommy James and the Shondells! They, the Monkees and other 60′s & 70′s acts need to be in there. We are tired of newer acts getting inducted…

  14. Max Tor says:

    RUSH ! When ????

  15. Mike Hagen says:

How about the greatest metal band of all time, METALLICA! They have been around long enough to qualify and have been the influence to so many bands it isnt funny. Consider the speed at which they play and the tours these guys do, My two sons and I just saw them last week at Arco arena in Sacramento and they were incredible! They have changed from the aggressive attitude and cussing between songs to calling the fans “family” and pointing out how many children were in attendance. C’mon, they deserve it!

  16. Jason Price says:

Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

  17. HEY YOU GUYS AT R&R HALL OF FAME LAND……

** NOMINATE TOMMY JAMES & THE SHONDELLS!!! **

THEY DESERVE TO BE A PART OF THE HALL’S R&R HISTORY, **NO** QUESTION ABOUT IT!!

  18. RIch says:

Still no Stevie Ray Vaughan. The man only damn near single handedly brought the blues back to the mainstream in the 80′s. Not to mention playing on albums by David Bowie, Bob Dylan and others. Just his influence on guitarists from Mike McCready of Pearl Jam to John Mayer shows how much he did. I honestly don’t ever expect him to get in since it IS the Rock And Roll Hall Of FAME and not Hall Of Musicians.

And while I don’t like Kiss or Rush, they need to be in there as well. The problem is too many rock journalists are snobs who look down on any band or musician that is liked by the “wrong type” of people. The Baby Boomers had their idols put in the first decade of the R&RHOF, now the Gen X crowd has taken over and they are even more closed minded musically.

  19. Ryan says:

    Where is WARREN ZEVON!!!??? :(

  20. kathy dahlke says:

so why is hall and oats always being passover? they should have been in the rock and roll hall of fame years ago!!!!!!

  21. Gina Pulaski says:

I totally agree–Tommy James should have been in the HOF a long time ago. He has had SO many hits over many decades, written so many great songs, has had like 300 covers of his songs done and has influenced many newer acts. So what is the problem??

  22. Put me down for Tommy James too. But answer me this, Mr Wizard…why hasn’t Leon Russell been inducted? He did all the arrangements for Joe Cocker and his Madmen & Englishmen tour…stole the show at George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh in the 70′s…was the top concert draw in America for at least one year in the 70′s … and was SO influential for Elton John, that they’ve just wrapped working on an album together that will be released this fall. I say, give the old piano banger a seat before he’s too old to attend the damn ceremony!
