Praised by Guitar World for its “Nineties-inspired firepower,” “Vervain” was produced by Keith Nelson (Buckcherry) and mixed by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden) and is the band’s first new music since the release of their blistering 2016 self-titled debut EP.

The Los Angeles-based duo (comprised of vocalist/guitarist Indio Downey and drummer/bassist Ralph Alexander) have spent the past couple of years gigging up and down the west coast, sharpening a monolithic sound inspired by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and The Sword. The latter is no easy feat for a two-man band.

The Dose was originally a trio, but the bass player didn’t show one night, forcing Downey and Alexander to take the stage alone. They killed, the bassist was axed, and they grew stronger as players.

“We went to Atlanta and practiced for a month before we found a way to make it work,” recalls Alexander, who plays bass synth pedals with his foot while drumming. “We want to be the biggest-sounding two-piece we can be.”

Asked to describe the band’s sound, Downey says, “We write love songs and stories about staying positive that are largely influenced by the bands we love.”

This fall they’ll join some of the biggest names in rock, including Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, Alice In Chains and System Of A Down, at the Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals.

Los Angeles fans can catch them at The Hi-Hat on July 26.
