Rock On The Range 2018: Artist Lineup Announced — Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains To Headline!

The 12th annual Rock On The Range returns to MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, OH Friday,May 18, Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 with its most power-packed lineup to date. America’s largest and most acclaimed rock festival features nearly 60 bands on three stages, led by Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, and Alice In Chains, also featuring Godsmack, A Perfect Circle, Stone Sour, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Stone Temple Pilots, Machine Gun Kelly, The Used, Bullet For My Valentine, Black Veil Brides, and many more. Many of the biggest names in rock will be joined by some of rock’s most exciting up-and-coming talent such as Greta Van Fleet, Code Orange, Power Trip, and New Years Day.

Rock On The Range also showcases rock’s favorite comedians in the ROTR Rolling Rock Comedy Tent, and the festival includes various onsite experiences during the three-day weekend. The comedy lineup will be announced in early 2018. Rock On The Range continues to grow year after year and draws attendees from around the world. 2017 was the festival’s biggest year to date with a crowd of 135,000 in attendance; tickets sold out just a month after going sale, marking the festival’s fifth consecutive advance sell-out.

Fans are encouraged to buy early and save. Each ticket price level has a limited number of tickets available, so attendees can save more by buying earlier. AVENGED SEVENFOLD continue their expansion of new album THE STAGE with today’s release: a cover of the 1966 Rolling Stones’ hit, “As Tears Go By” – click HERE to listen.

“We really got into some of the deeper Rolling Stones tracks during the writing process for ‘Hail To The King,’” says Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows. “This song always stood out because of the melody and fragile state of Mick Jagger’s vocal and the interesting string section in the bridge. We took a more uptempo rock & roll approach and added the sitar as a little nod to the experimentation of the 60s.”

Over the course of the past several weeks, Avenged Sevenfold have been steadily adding new tracks to THE STAGE and transforming the album into an evolving body of work. They began with Mexican folk song “Malagueña Salerosa” and followed with a reimagining of Mr. Bungle’s “Retrovertigo,” original track “Dose,” a cover of Del Shannon’s 1961 No. 1 hit, “Runaway” (featuring a guest appearance by Vandals’ guitarist Warren Fitzgerald and lead vocals by Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Zacky Vengeance) and the band’s version of The Beach Boys’ 1966 hit, “God Only Knows.”

THE STAGE is the band’s 7th studio album and first for Capitol Records. The album hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock, Hard Rock and Alternative Albums charts, No. 4 on the Top 200 and debuted Top 5 on iTunes in over 35 countries.  Its title track hit Top 5 at rock radio and its companion video has amassed over 19.5 million YouTube views to date.

Avenged Sevenfold (vocalist M. Avenged Sevenfold Release Cover Version of The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows”

First came their rendition of Mexican folk song “Malagueña Salerosa,” followed by a reimagining of Mr. Bungle’s “Retrovertigo,” original track “Dose” and a cover of Del Shannon’s 1961 No. 1 hit, “Runaway,” featuring a guest appearance by Vandals’ guitarist Warren Fitzgerald and lead vocals by Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Zacky Vengeance. “Of all these new songs we’ve recorded, this one was the most difficult in terms of figuring out an arrangement,” says vocalist M. Shadows. “Figuring out the middle vocal melodies was also challenging. We wanted to make the song a little darker by adding a flanger and some haunting vocal nuances. The Beach Boys have always been an influence, so it was fun to tackle this one from arguably the best album of all time, ‘Pet Sounds.’”

THE STAGE is the band’s 7th studio album and first for Capitol Records. Co-produced by A7X and Barresi, THE STAGE is a work of immense scope and ambition, featuring 11 panoramic tracks tied together by an Artificial Intelligence theme. Inspired by the writings of Carl Sagan and Elon Musk, the album is the band’s first thematic release. Its epic 15-minute-plus closing track, “Exist,” features a guest appearance by award-winning astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson giving a spoken word performance he penned specifically for the album. Guitar World, who spotlighted Gates and Zacky Vengeance with a cover story, lauded the disc for being “the most surprising and ambitious album of their career.” The Guardian  and NME each gave it four stars, with the latter calling the album “their best yet,” adding that “they’ve truly arrived.” Q called it the group’s  “boldest album yet” and Classic Rock called it “a metal masterpiece.” Avenged Sevenfold recently released a video for a second album track, “God Damn,” which already has 5.7 million views. The album hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock, Hard Rock and Alternative Albums charts, No. 4 on the Top 200 and debuted Top 5 on iTunes in over 35 countries.  Its title track hit Top 5 at rock radio and its companion video has amassed over 19 million YouTube views to date.

The band recently announced that they’re transforming the album into an evolving body of work by adding a series of new tracks over the course of the coming months.

Avenged Sevenfold Release New Track “Dose” From ‘Dungeon Hunter 5’

First came their cover of Mexican folk song “Malagueña Salerosa,” followed by a reimagining of Mr. Bungle’s “Retrovertigo.” Now Avenged Sevenfold continue the rollout of new tracks with the release of “Dose,” a song originally intended to be part of the track listing on newest album,THE STAGE.  Click HERE for the track/video.

“Musically, ‘Dose’ was supposed to be a Part 2 to “Roman Sky” and had a very cinematic feel, but we turned it into more of a tripped-out metal song,” says vocalist M. Shadows. “The lyrics were inspired by an unsolved mystery that dates back to the 1950s about an airline traveler who, if you believe the story, supposedly fell into our dimension from another. According to reports, he showed up in a Tokyo airport with a passport from a country that didn’t exist anywhere on a map. He was detained for questioning, but mysteriously vanished from a room guarded by immigration officials, taking with him all evidence of his existence. It ties into the theory that there are infinite possibilities of our lives being played out across space and time. Don’t know if the story is true, but I’m fascinated by that kind of stuff and thought it’d be a fun idea for a song.”

The band teamed with mobile game developer/publisher Gameloft and sneak previewed “Dose” as a special level in “Dungeon Hunter 5,” the latest episode of the successful hack and slash series. The game features a thematic dungeon that pits players against hordes of undead minions and bewitched demons leading to a final confrontation against a character inspired by Avenged Sevenfold’s THE STAGE.

Rock legends Metallica have officially announce their WorldWired 2017 North American tour in support of their new album Hardwired…To Self-Destruct. The WorldWired 2017 tour is produced by Live Nation and  kicks off on May 10th in Baltimore, MD at M&T Bank Stadium. AVENGED SEVENFOLD has “surprise-released” THE STAGE, becoming the first-ever rock band to drop an unannounced album in both digital and physical form. THE STAGE, available HERE, is the band’s 7th studio album and first for Capitol Records.

The Southern California-based quintet (vocalist M. Shadows, guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance, bassist Johnny Christ and drummer Brooks Wackerman) revealed the news at midnight eastern, surprising the millions of fans who were watching their live-streamed performance from the rooftop of the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood, CA.

The groundbreaking event saw the band give a 3D/360-degree live-streamed virtual reality performance, enabling fans around the globe to view the show on Universal Music Group’s newly released VRTGO VR platform, powered by VRLIVE’s advanced technology, and experience Avenged Sevenfold’s electrifying set as if they were there for this first-of-its-kind immersive event.

Fans attended the event in-person, flooding the streets and sidewalks around the tower to experience a concert amplified by augmented reality (AR) technology, which intensifies real-world environmental elements with computer-generated sensory input such as graphics, video and sound to enhance the live experience. VRLIVE streamed the event to 50 Samsung Gear VR headsets on the ground level of the event for fans to virtually transport themselves to the stage. Afterward, the band celebrated with fans, taking photos and sharing stories about the secretive release.

THE STAGE is the follow-up to Avenged Sevenfold’s 2013 release, Hail To The King, which entered The Billboard 200 at No. 1. Co-produced by the band and Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool), THE STAGE is a work of immense scope and ambition, featuring 11 panoramic tracks tied together by an Artificial Intelligence theme. Inspired by the writings of Carl Sagan and Elon Musk, the album is the band’s first thematic release. While the term “AI” conjures up images of robots and fantasy films, the band steers clear of a science fiction storyline. Instead, the album sees them taking a futurist’s look at the accelerated rate at which technology’s intelligence is expanding and what that means—good and bad—for the future.

The album’s epic 15-minute-plus closing track, “Exist,” features a guest appearance by award-winning astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson giving a spoken word performance he penned specifically for the album.

Working with new label Capitol Records, the band’s plans for a stealth release were months in the making, and kicked off a few weeks ago with a guerilla campaign that saw projections of their deathbat symbol mysteriously appearing on landmarks around the world. Fans and media reported sightings and shared images from ParisSydneyLondonTokyo and Berlin, to name but a few. Anticipation and conspiracy theories reached fever pitch when rumors regarding supposed album titles and a December release date began to spread.

Two weeks ago, the band released a companion video for lead single/title track “The Stage.” Directed by Chris Hopewell (Radiohead, The Killers), the clip – seen HERE – has already amassed well over six million YouTube views. The album also marks the band’s first release with acclaimed drummer Brooks Wackerman, known for his work with Bad Religion and whose discography also includes albums from Tenacious D and Suicidal Tendencies.

On the evening of October 27th, multi-platinum rock band, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, will give a global, 3D /360-degree, live-streamed virtual reality performance in partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, Capitol Records and VRLIVE. Fans around the world will be able to view the live stream on UMG’s newly released VRTGO VR platform, powered by VRLIVE’s advanced technology, and experience Avenged Sevenfold’s electrifying set as if they were there for this first-of-its-kind immersive event. VRTGO is freely available on iOS and Android.

Tickets for the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL go on sale on April 4th at 10:00AM local time. This year’s odyssey will include four stages of heavy music and 20 bands. Also, look for Freestyle Motocross legend Jimmy Fitzpatrick and his FITZ ARMY of riders and a Motorsports exhibition area featuring Unknown Industries Harley Davidson Freestyle Riders, as well as many other surprises and attractions throughout the festival midway.

The festival will kick off on July 5th at San Manuel Amphitheatre in San Bernardino, CA and will hit a total of 26 cities, ending at The Woodlands, TX (Houston) at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on August 10th.

Chart-topping hard-rock act Avenged Sevenfold will hit the road in North America for the “Shepherd of Fire Tour,” based on the band’s single of the same name, which hit No. 1 on both the Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts. “Shepherd of Fire,” from A7X’s current album Hail To The King, is the second single to reach No. 1, in addition to the title track.

The “Shepherd of Fire Tour,” which kicks off on April 12th in British Columbia, will hit arenas in the United States and Canada. The band will also headline the U.S.’s biggest rock festivals, Carolina Rebellion, Rise Above Fest, and Rock on The Range.

Avenged Sevenfold will be joined by Hellyeah on the Shepherd of Fire Tour as support.

Hail To The King topped the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart upon its release in August, making it A7X’s second consecutive No. 1 debut. The album also went to No. 1 in Brazil, Canada, Finland, Ireland, and the U.K. The Huntington Beach, Calif., band has become known for its spectacular live shows, routinely selling out arenas worldwide and headlining some of the most prestigious music festivals. They are scheduled to perform five shows at the Soundwave Festival in Australia starting February 22nd, and will spend the summer headlining Europe’s biggest rock festivals, including Rock Im Park, Rock Am Ring in Germany, the PinkPop Festival in Holland, and the U.K.’s biggest rock festival, Download at Donington Park. After that they will headline the Mountain Stage for two nights at Summersonic in Japan.

Avenged Sevenfold‘s Hail To The King is well on its way to living up to its name. The album, released by Warner Bros. Records, earned the band its second No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart, selling upwards of 159,400 units, making it the biggest first-week sales debut for a rock album this year.  Hail To The King also went to No. 1 in the UK, handing the band its first chart-topping album in Britain, as well as in Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Ireland, and Finland. Avenged Sevenfold has just wrapped up sold-out tour dates in the U.S. and Europe, including a sold-out show at Wembley in the UK. With all of this momentum, Machinima, the number one global video entertainment network for young males, has announced that the Hail To The King animated series will be released on December 15 for binge-viewing on Machinima’s HappyHour channel (YouTube.com/HappyHour).

From the creative minds of Avenged Sevenfold, one of rock music’s global heavyweights and a trailblazing force in fusing the worlds of music and video games, Hail To The King is a six-episode animated series, which is directed by Metalocalypse producer Jon Schnepp. The unique and innovative series tells the fictional story of the Deathbat – the band’s longtime trademark, and serves as the prologue to their highly anticipated mobile video game, “Hail to the King: Deathbat.” Accompanying the launch of the series will be a trailer for the game, which will be available early 2014.
