Hollywood Vampires, the supergroup whose core members are Alice CooperJohnny Depp and Joe Perry, have just announced dates for their North American tour this summer.  The musicians supporting the high profile rockers include drummer Matt Sorum (the Cult, Guns N’ Roses), guitarist Tommy Henriksen (Alice Cooper’s band), Bruce Witkin (Johnny Depp’s group the Kids) and Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots).

How it all began…
In 1972, on the Sunset Strip at a club called the Rainbow Bar & Grill, the Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar.  It was a gathering place for rock stars living in or passing through L.A.  “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members,” says Alice Cooper, a founding member of the Vampires.  “I would walk in on a typical night,” Alice says, “and John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon—who would usually be in a costume like a maid or a chauffeur—Bernie Taupin, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz would be there. The next week might be Bernie Taupin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz.”

Roughly four years ago, Alice Cooper and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again (minus the drinking).  An environment for great artists to hang, laugh and play together. The Hollywood Vampires lives again with the release of the Hollywood Vampires new album.  Alice and Johnny were joined by Joe Perry, who is an old friend of both of them, and with producer Bob Ezrin, the recording began: a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires.  The new album was released on September 11th, 2015 and all artist proceeds are being donated to MusiCares.

Hollywood Vampires Announce Two Shows At The Roxy This September!

The next week might be Bernie Taupin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz.”

Now, returning to where it once began, the Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, and Joe Perry) have announced today two shows at the notorious Sunset Strip music venue, The Roxy.  This will mark the Hollywood Vampires only U.S. appearances on September 16 and 17, and will surely be the most sought after ticket in town. Joining the Hollywood Vampires live will be Matt Sorum on drums, Duff McKagan on bass, Tommy Henriksen on guitar, and Bruce Witkin on piano and guitar. Tickets are on sale on August 14 for the September 16th show at http://ticketf.ly/1EdJvSI and September 17th show at http://ticketf.ly/1W5TvIT.

Additionally on September 24, in what will be their only international appearance, the band will head to Brazil for “Rock in Rio.” Before that show, the band will partner with Starkey Hearing Foundation, an organization that has provided more than 1.8 million free hearing aids to people in need in more than 100 countries, to offer and fit hearing aids to more than 150 people in need.   After the hearing aid fittings, the Hollywood Vampires and Starkey Hearing Foundation will bring a number of individuals to the show so they can hear music for the first time in their lives.

“Hearing connects us to life, our families and to the world around us,” said Bill Austin, founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation. “It’s a precious gift, and we are excited to work with the Hollywood Vampires to introduce so many to the world of sound and help them hear music for the first time.”

HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES: Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, Joe Perry’s Supergroup Announces Debut Album

In 1972, on the Sunset Strip at a club called the Rainbow Bar & Grill, the Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar.  It was a gathering place for the rock stars living in or passing through L.A.  “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members,” says Alice Cooper, a founding member of the Vampires.  “I would walk in on a typical night,” Alice says, “and John LennonHarry Nilsson, Keith Moon—who would usually be in a costume like a maid or a chauffeur—Bernie Taupin, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz would be there. Three years ago, Alice and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again (minus the drinking).  An environment for great artists to hang, laugh and play together. The Hollywood Vampires live again with the release of the Hollywood Vampires new album.  Alice and Johnny were joined by Joe Perry, who is an old friend of both of them, and the recording began: a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires.

For the next two years, Alice, Joe and Johnny, joined by producer Bob Ezrin and an amazing group of modern day vampires, including Perry FarrellDave Grohl, Sir Paul McCartneyJoe Walsh, Slash, Robbie KriegerZak StarkeyBrian Johnson and Kip Winger, recorded tracks by their dead friends and heroes.  Also included are two original songs that tell the story of the Vampires, one of which, “Raise The Dead,” has an intro by Sir Christopher Lee, recorded just prior to his death.

The album package, an antique book, was created by noted men’s fashion designer (and rock fan) John Varvatos in his signature vintage style.  Alice and Varvatos, both Detroit natives, have been partners in fashion for several years with Alice lending his classic rock style as a brand ambassador.

A sneak peek at the liner notes, penned by original Hollywood Vampire Bernie Taupin, “I’m not here to defend their vices. Over-indulgence of any sort does not ultimately constitute for a healthy mind and body. And while on the periphery of those involved, wives may have come and gone, career choices may have been deemed dubious, and heartbreak in some cases stalked a dark corridor, but in the lair of the Hollywood Vampires only joy and laughter reigned.”

“I’m not completely sure what constituted bad behavior back then, but in this lair it existed in a bubble, a hermetically sealed dome of fun. It may not have been the round table at the Algonquin, but these were witty, intelligent guys who often got raucous and loud, but rest assured there were no bystanders or animals hurt in the making of the Hollywood Vampires.”

All artist proceeds will be donated to MusiCares.

PINK FLOYD: “The Division Bell” 20th Anniversary Box Set Announced

PINK FLOYD: “The Division Bell” 20th Anniversary Box Set Announced

pink-floyd-division-bell-2014

PINK FLOYD is releasing a 20th anniversary box set of THE DIVISION BELL, the band’s 1994 multi-million selling album that included the Grammy® Award-winning track “Marooned.”  Set for release on July 1, THE DIVISION BELL was the last studio album to be released by the band: David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. This 20TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTOR’S BOX SET features six discs, including three replica colored or clear vinyl discs, 5 collectors’ prints, a Blu-ray disc and, for the first time, Andy Jackson’s 5.1 audio mix of THE DIVISION BELL, all for a suggested list price of $149.98. A new video for “Marooned,” shot last month in Ukraine, premiered yesterday on pinkfloyd.com and can be viewed here: http://smarturl.it/DB20YT

THE DIVISION BELL debuted at No. 1 in both the UK and US, staying at the top of the US charts for 4 weeks; it also went to No. 1 in eight other countries and, to date, has reached total album sales of over 12 million. The album was recorded by the band at Astoria and Britannia Row Studios in England with the majority of the lyrics being written by Polly Samson and David Gilmour.

David Gilmour said at the time: “The three of us went into Britannia Row studios, and improvised for 2 weeks. Playing together and starting from scratch was interesting and exciting, it kick started the album and the process was very good, it was collaborative and felt more cohesive.”

THE DIVISION BELL 20TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTOR’S BOX SET will feature a new 2-LP180-gram vinyl edition of the album, remastered by Doug Sax at The Mastering Lab from the original analogue tapes, including all the full length tracks (originally edited to fit on a single LP) in a gatefold sleeve designed by Hipgnosis/StormStudios. Five other discs are included: a red 7″ vinyl replica of single “Take It Back,” clear 7″ vinyl replica of “High Hopes,” 12″ blue vinyl replica of “High Hopes” with reverse laser etched design, the 2011 Discovery remaster of THE DIVISION BELL and a Blu-ray disc including the album in HD Audio, plus the previously unreleased 5.1 surround sound audio mix of the album by Andy Jackson. The 2-LP vinyl set will also be available individually for a suggested list price of $46.98.

Another addition included on the Blu-ray disc is a new video for Marooned, the track that won a Grammy for ‘Best Rock Instrumental’ in 1994. Filmed in Ukraine during the first week of April 2014, the video was directed by Aubrey Powell at Hipgnosis. It will appear on the disc with audio tracks in both PCM Stereo and a 5.1 mix by Andy Jackson.

Bob Ezrin and David Gilmour produced the original album, with orchestral arrangements by the late Michael Kamen. The anniversary box set discs have been remastered by long term Pink Floyd audio associates James Guthrie and Joel Plante.
