G.I. JOE Joins Forces With Toys For Tots For Holiday Mission!

dennis_quaid_gi_joe_photoOver 14 million children live in poverty in the United States. They need a hero this holiday season and here to answer the call of duty is the G.I. JOE brand from Hasbro, Inc.

Hasbro’s G.I. JOE brand, the Marine Toys for Toys Foundation and actor Dennis Quaid are joining forces to help make this holiday season a little brighter for less fortunate children. For every G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra toy purchased at stores from November 11 through November 26 (Veteran’s Day through Thanksgiving), Hasbro will donate a new toy (up to 300,000 toys with a minimum $3.99 value) to Toys for Tots.

Actor Dennis Quaid, who plays ‘GENERAL HAWK’ in the 2009 blockbuster film G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra, from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro, will voice a national radio spot, due to premier on Veteran’s Day, November 11, to help raise awareness for this campaign and the positive impact The U.S. Marines and Toys for Tots make on the lives of children.

“As long time supporters of Toys for Tots, we recognize and applaud the important work the organization does on behalf of economically disadvantaged children nationwide,” said John Frascotti, Hasbro’s Chief Marketing Officer. “In working with Toys for Tots once again this year, they were very clear that new toys for the children they serve would be in greater need than ever during these difficult economic times, and we are pleased to step up and do our part.”

“We know this year will be especially hard on families as many have already started to significantly tighten the purse strings,” said retired Marine Corps Major Bill Grein, USMC (Ret), vice president of marketing and development for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. “These families need a hero this holiday season and Hasbro is it. Their generous gift of toys and games will enable us to deliver the magic of the holiday season to many of our nation’s neediest children.”

Radiohead Release ‘These Are My Twisted Words’ As Free Download

Radiohead have formally released their new song “These Are My Twisted Words” as a free download via their Dead Air Space Website. Check out what they have to say about the release below:

These Are My Twisted Words…

So here’s a new song, called ‘These Are My Twisted Words’.

We’ve been recording for a while, and this was one of the first we finished.
We’re pretty proud of it.

There’s other stuff in various states of completion, but this is one we’ve been practicing, and which we’ll probably play at this summer’s concerts. Hope you like it.

Download the audio here or torrent here.

Fans can expect as least one more new song by year’s end when Yorke contributes a track to the soundtrack of the Twilight sequel New Moon.

Radiohead Release New Song To Honor British War Veteran

Radiohead Release New Song To Honor British War Veteran

radioheadRadiohead have released a surprise new song in memory of the late war veteran Harry Patch, who was the last living British veteran of World War One. Patch died on June 25 at the age of 111. Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke originally wrote the dedication after hearing the late Harry Patch interviewed on BBC Radio 4, back  in 2005.

The song, which is titled ‘Harry Patch (In Memory Of)’, can be downloaded at this location. The proceeds will be donated to the Royal British Legion.

“It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us. I hope we do not forget.” The song was recorded in the weeks before Patch’s death at an abbey in Oxfordshire alongside Radiohead’s long-time producer Nigel Godrich.

In a message on the band’s website, Yorke said: “The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me. “I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor,” Yorke added.

Patch died on 25 July, the last survivor of the bloody Passchendaele assault. For 80 years he refused to talk about his war experiences, but eventually agreed to take part in a BBC documentary in 1998. Patch’s realisation that he was one of the last links to the first world war persuaded him to go on record about it.

‘Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day’ – Comic Tie-In To Reveal Il Duce’s Backstory!

‘Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day’ – Comic Tie-In To Reveal Il Duce’s Backstory!

boondocksaints_comicTimed to coincide with the cinematic release “Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day,” writer/director Troy Duffy is working with 12 Gauge Comics on a comic tie-in project. The original cult hit movie followed brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus, who take it upon themselves to clean up the streets of Boston, ridding their hometown of crime as local vigilantes. The film sequel does not yet have a firm release date, but upon its release, the series will follow.

Comic Book Resources recently caught up with Duffy, comic series co-writer Jason Love, 12-Gauge publisher Keven Gardner, and Eben Matthews, the series producer, to discuss the comic. Read the full interview here >

Duffy said that the comic will flesh out the fan-favorite character of Il Duce, the brothers’ father played by Billy Connolly, in even greater depth than what will be seen in the cinematic sequel. “There was so much interest about that guy and how he became a killer,” Duffy told CBR. “The character was one of those characters that comes in in the last 10 minutes and blows the plot wide open, but he was not in there throughout the film, so I wouldn’t have expected so much interest in him. I had to address it, because fans of ‘Boondock’ were just too interested in this guy and how he became a killer, and why he was where he was, and everything about him.”

Readers will see, among other things, the circumstances behind Il Duce’s first kill. “Some very personal things happen to him that’s sort of his impetus to begin killing,” Duffy said. “But then there’s another person involved, and it becomes much more than just ‘one kill for revenge.’”

To celebrate all things Boondock Saints, Troy Duffy will be signing for the new comic series at the 12 Gauge Comics Booth at Comic Con on Friday, July 24th at 4:30 PM! Booth #2045
