ABOVE GROUND: Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison To Play Mental Health Benefit Show

ABOVE GROUND: Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison To Play Mental Health Benefit Show

Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) and Billy Morrison (Billy Idol) have joined forces with their musician friends and special guest performers to present ABOVE GROUND” on Monday, April 16 at The Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. This immersive evening of art and music-beginning at 8pm-will celebrate the vinyl album as an art form, and at the same time raise awareness and funds for the treatment of mental health, with the profits being donated to MusiCares. Expect the musicians to perform two seminal albums in their entirety-first Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam And The Ants and then The Velvet Underground & Nico by Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground-with completely different stage sets and production for each album’s performance.

Tickets are priced at $100 each and go on sale Saturday, February 24 starting at 10:00am via ticketmaster.com and livenation.com. View a trailer for the event here and read an interview with Navarro and Morrison below.

Guitarists Navarro and Morrison will be joined by bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction), drummers Erik Eldenius (Billy Idol) and Josh Freese as well as violinist Lili Haydn, plus special guests Billy Idol, Courtney Love, Jesse Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal), Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Franky Perez and more.

During the intermission between performances, there will be speeches from people in the mental health field and a small memorabilia auction to raise funds, along with art displays and information booths. Revolver Gallery will showcase works by Andy Warhol and MusiCares (currently focusing on the mental health arena and all the challenges that are faced in that field)will be present at the event.

When Navarro and Morrison sat down over coffee recently and started to talk about music, art, the lost love of the vinyl record, and at the same time their own mental health and their different battles in the same arena, it became apparent immediately that they both wanted to do the same thing–to celebrate life, to pay homage to records that truly shaped them both as musicians, and at the same time to raise awareness, funds and hope for people suffering from depression. This is how ABOVE GROUND was born.

The way music is recorded, performed and heard has changed dramatically over the years. The days of vinyl albums, lovingly crafted and put together, with the all important side two flip of the physical record has disappeared. The idea of a story that gets told throughout the album has largely faded away.

There is also a disastrous loss of amazing talent through the twin tentacles of suicide and depression. The common misconception that an artist who is “famous” or “rich” has nothing to be depressed about is just a complete falsehood. Moreover, the act of asking for help is still something that is shrouded in misplaced embarrassment, humiliation and shame.

Directed by Mark Ritchie (Madonna, Kanye West) and produced by Barry Summers (Rock Fuel Media), Jane’s Addiction – Ritual De Lo Habitual Alive At 25 features a complete concert filmed at the historic Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre on September 23rd 2016, which was the last stop on the band’s 20-city worldwide “Sterling Spoon Anniversary Tour.” The powerhouse line-up of Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Chris Chaney performed an explosive 90-minute show consisting of their entire landmark album Ritual De Lo Habitual, as well as some of the band’s biggest hits spanning their 30-year career. As Perry Farrell explains, “25 years – what a beautiful milestone for both Ritual De Lo Habitual and Lollapalooza. As both were great achievements in our lives that also helped change the course of music history, we really sought to come up with a special show for this tour so that the fans could celebrate it with us.”

Award-winning producer Barry Summers from Rock Fuel Media explains, “The band’s great visual and very edgy performances always kick ass on stage. Ritual De Lo Habitual is such an iconic album that changed the landscape of alternative rock and we wanted to capture the 25 year anniversary in stunning 4k. It’s quite mind-blowing and we think fans will enjoy this package for years to come.”

Slash Issues Update On Upcoming Solo Record, Tour

Slash Issues Update On Upcoming Solo Record, Tour

slash-long

Legendary guitarist Slash has issued an update about his new solo album, the status of the ongoing Velvet Revolver singer search and his upcoming solo tour.

Here is what he had to say about the highly anticipated project:

I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait until next year to put out this record! It is so fucking cool & I am so anxious to get it out already. We start mixing soon and that will be that, ready to go. But, I have to wait, there’s no way around it, for all kinds of logistic reasons and that’s the reality.

But, my VR band-mates and I had a meeting a couple of weeks ago and although the search for a singer will continue, I am going to tour on my solo record most likely through next summer starting in March or April. We (VR) will keep the word of mouth system going and listening to submissions from singers and checking out different singer’s sites etc, we know the right guy is out there somewhere. It’s possible somebody could turn up before I do my tour and we could start working on new material sooner than later, in a perfect world.

As far as my tour is concerned, I have already started to put together ideas for a kick-ass band and the plan is to perform some new stuff, Snakepit, VR and Guns stuff. The new album is really great and deserves that I should support it. Plus, I’m really looking forward to getting out there and doing some gigs, its been more than a year since I was on a proper tour and all these one off jams are basically just a tease.

So, there’s the update for now, I’m still tinkering away on the solo record but there really isn’t much left to do on it but mix it, which starts in September.

Burn Halo Rock The Midwest

Burn Halo Rock The Midwest

By Jen X

In mid-May rockers Burn Halo were performing in front of thousands at the Rock on the Range Music Festival, on May 27,2009 they found themselves in front of an audience of 1400 at sold-out Piere’s Entertainment Complex in Fort Wayne, IN opening for hard rock legends KORN.The delirious fans packed into Piere’s had to know they were in the presence of a band who have the capability to stride the world’s largest venues in their own right in the upcoming years.

Burn Halo

Founder and frontman James Hart, former lead singer of Eighteen Visions, formed Burn Halo in 2007. Helping in the creative department he had an experienced crew of proven winners in the music arena: Zac Maloy, formerly of The Nixons worked extensively with Hart in the writing department, laying down the tracks were Nickelback drummer Daniel Adair, former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, guitarist Neil Tiemann (who now tours with “American Idol” winner David Cook), and Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates (who appears on the “Dirty Little Girl” and “Anejo”). In 2008 Burn Halo’s first album was ready to hit press when Island Records elected not to release the venture. Enter Rawkhead Rekords, founded by Burn Halo’s manager, Bret Bair. Bair started his own label and Warner Music Group stepped in for distribution. From there on out they have had a hit single, “Dirty Little Girl”, and their song “Save Me” was featured in the video game WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2009.

Those hits as well as half of their current self-titled cd was performed in a tight set that was heavy yet catchy. I’d describe their music as very radio friendly modern hard rock. Fans squeezed in for front row access and to snag a glimpse of the group, which aside from Hart as lead man, includes Joey Cunha and Allen Wheeler in guitars, Aaron Boheler on bass, and Timmy Russell, drums.

Modern melodic hard rock has shown itself to be not only popular with the fans, but radio stations are eating it up. Following suit promoters are loving bands such as Burn Halo because they fill clubs and work their way up to filling stadiums. Burn Halo has what it takes to mark a long lasting mark on the music scene and with the committment of frontman Hart, should quickly rise to the top.
