Whitesnake To Release Long-Awaited New Album, “Flesh & Blood,” On May 10th!

Whitesnake To Release Long-Awaited New Album, “Flesh & Blood,” On May 10th!

Fresh off celebrating their 40th anniversary, rock legends Whitesnake return with their latest studio album, “Flesh & Blood”. This album follows the 2011 critically acclaimed studio album “Forevermore” and 2015’s “The Purple Album”, a reimagining of Deep Purple classics from Whitesnake mastermind’s David Coverdale’s time in that band. The 13 original, visceral tracks on “Flesh & Blood”, the band’s 13th studio album, are, luckily for you dear reader, “all killer, no filler”, as the saying goes.

But would you expect anything less from the ’Snakes?

David Coverdale, the Mastermind behind Whitesnake & co-composer of ‘Shut Up & Kiss Me’ with guitarist Reb Beach, commenting on the forthcoming release said “that after the intense darkness of our last video BURN If anything, it’s ‘light’ snake, you know? We’ve got some really dark energy going on in the world right now, so we’re gonna write & record a fun, knees up, song about falling in love with a fabulous babe. You’re over-talking, over-compensating & she just looks at you, takes the reins & says, ‘Shut Up and Kiss Me!’ and that’s it!! My video director and creative partner Tyler Bourns and I discussed a great storyline for the video, which involves a surprise guest: my fabulous old white Jaguar. We ended up cleaning and detailing it, as it has been in storage since I moved to Lake Tahoe, then we dusted off my old turquoise silk jacket from the original ‘Here I Go Again’ video and I was thinking, “man, this is going to be fun!” It’s a respectful acknowledgment and positive nod to the past, just fun stuff.”

Joining Coverdale on Flesh & Blood is the powerhouse band comprised of Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra on guitar, Michael Devin on bass, Tommy Aldridge on drums, and Michele Luppi on keyboards.

Since joining the band four years ago, and just in time for 2015’s “The Purple Album”, Chicago native Joel Hoekstra has really come into his own, not only as a highly impressive axe-slinger, but also as a very accomplished songwriter too, co-writing six of the songs for “Flesh & Blood” with singer David Coverdale. Of course Joel’s talents are hardly surprising, considering he’s the son of two classical musicians.

Guitarist Reb Beach, who originally joined Whitesnake in 2002, has stepped up to become the group’s bandleader and guides the band to implement Coverdale’s musical vision. As well as bringing his impressive musical chops to the band, Reb has co-written five songs on the new album, the fourth studio album he has appeared on, commencing with 2008’s highly acclaimed “Good To Be Bad”.

It was the “Good To Be Bad” follow up, “Forevermore” (2011), that saw the debut of bassist Michael Devin. The New Englander’s four-string-depth-charge-bass-bombs definitively underpin and drive the sound of Whitesnake in the 21st century.

Rounding out the rhythm section is David’s longest serving ’Snake, the renowned drummer and unstoppable percussionist Tommy Aldridge, who has been with Whitesnakein some capacity for 30 years. Tommy made his debut with Whitesnake way back in 1987 in the ‘Still Of The Night’ video, becoming a mainstay behind the kit for successive albums and tours.

Last, but certainly not least, the band is completed by the inventive keyboards and vocals of Italian maestro Michele Luppi, who made his live debut in 2015, as documented on “The Purple Tour” live CD/DVD (2018).

The current incarnation of the band carries on the long and unwavering tradition of main man David Coverdale being surrounded by cream of the crop players who go all in to bring fans the best hard rock humanly possible. 40+ years into their existence, the ‘Snakes fangs have only grown sharper and are ready to inject fans with more of that rock ‘n roll venom they crave.

Check out an exclusive interview with David Coverdale and watch the video for first single, “Shut Up & Kiss Me” over at Billboard Magazine HERE.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Announces U.S. Dates For ‘Last of the Street Survivors’ Farewell Tour

Lynyrd Skynyrd Announces U.S. Dates For ‘Last of the Street Survivors’ Farewell Tour

Last year Southern Rock icons, Lynyrd Skynyrd, announced that, after a career that has spanned more than 40 years and includes a catalog of more than 60 albums with more than 30 million units sold, they would embark on their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour. Produced by Live Nation, the career-concluding farewell tour logged over 50 stops by the end of 2018.

Last year Johnny Van ZantGary Rossington, and Rickey Medlocke sat down with Dan Rather for a candid conversation on The Big Interview during the first leg of their farewell tour. Reflecting on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s enduring legacy and their fans around the world, Rossington told Rather, “It takes a long time to finish a farewell tour when you’re like us, ‘cause we’ve played everywhere… I keep jokin’ it’d take ten years to do the farewell tour.”

True to their word and faithful to their loyal fans, the Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tourcontinues in 2019 with tickets for U.S. dates going on sale to the general public this Friday, Feb. 8 at 10:00 a.m. local time at LiveNation.com. Citi is the official presale credit card for the tour. As such, Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase presale tickets beginning Tuesday, February 5 at 10:00 a.m. local time until Thursday, February 7 at 10:00 p.m. local time through Citi’s Private Pass program. For complete presale details visit www.citiprivatepass.com.

The farewell tour will continue to take the band across the country and around the globe through the remainder of the year giving fans one last unforgettable night of classic American Rock-and-Roll. The Southern Rockers will be joined for select dates by special guests including: Bad Company, Cody Jinks and Hank Williams Jr.

The blockbuster farewell tour kicks off 2019 in Canada where the band will be joined by one of the most celebrated musicians in Canadian history, special guest, Randy Bachman. The two-time inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame is one of few artists to hold the distinction of topping the charts in two different bands: “American Woman” with The Guess Who and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” with Bachman?Turner Overdrive. Following the Canadian run the band will head to the U.K. and Europe this summer. They will be joined by special guests, English rock band Status Quo, for U.K. dates and Southern rock band Blackberry Smoke for dates in Germany.

The tour derives its name from their song, “The Last of the Street Survivors” and the band’s fifth studio album Street Survivors that is certified multi-Platinum by the RIAA and includes the Platinum-certified single, “What’s Your Name.”

The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour marks a big moment for generations of fans, as Lynyrd Skynyrd has been touring consistently since the 90s. The band, that USA Today called the “whiskey-soaked genre’s most popular and influential crew,” is ready to rock one last time. The farewell tour will take original member Rossington joined by Van Zant, Medlocke, Mark “Sparky” Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Keith Christopher, Peter Keys, Dale Krantz Rossington, Carol Chase and special guest Jim Horn across the country over the next two years.

The legendary rockers are best known for the RIAA Platinum-certified “Sweet Home Alabama” and self-proclaimed signature song, “Free Bird,” that Rolling Stone said was “easily the most requested live song in existence.” With everlasting hits such as “Simple Man,” “Gimme Three Steps,” “What’s Your Name,” “Call Me The Breeze,” “You Got that Right,” and more, it is easy to see why Rolling Stone named Lynyrd Skynyrd one of its 100 Greatest Bands of All Time.

Rock Legends The Who Announce North American Dates For 2019 ‘Moving On! Tour’

Rock Legends The Who Announce North American Dates For 2019 ‘Moving On! Tour’

For WHO fans everywhere, the announcement of a brand new tour means only one thing:  the world’s most untameable rock band is about to deliver the goods once again. Never ones for nostalgia, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend will be unleashing the combustible force that is The Who, with symphonic accompaniment this summer and fall in 2019.  Produced by Live Nation, The Who’s North American MOVING ON! TOUR will bring their indelible brand of powerhouse rock to 29 cities beginning in May (see tour itinerary below). The kickoff date is May 7 in Grand Rapids, MI with the band wrapping up the first leg of the tour June 1 in Toronto, ON. A much-anticipated series of fall dates will launch on September 6 in St. Paul, MN and conclude on October 23 in Edmonton, AB.  Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, January 18 at LiveNation.com.

The Who will also be releasing their first album of new songs in thirteen years later this year. On stage, the line-up will be rounded out by familiar Who players featuring guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey, and complemented by some of the best orchestras in the U.S. and Canada.

The Who’s fan club presale starts Wednesday, January 16 at 10am local time and runs through Thursday, January 17 at 10pm local time. Every pair of tickets purchased online includes a redeemable code for a CD copy of The Who’s forthcoming album when it’s released. This offer is available to US and Canada customers only and not valid for tickets purchased via resale. In addition, $1 from each ticket sold for the MOVING ON! TOUR will benefit Teen Cancer Americ (www.teencanceramerica.org.)

The tour is their first return to the states since their 2017 Las Vegas residency.  That same year they did a limited run of shows following 2016’s rescheduled leg of their acclaimed 50th anniversary celebration.  The band also drew praise for their extended 2012-2013 North American run, a 36 city Quadrophenia tour with the band performing their 1973 rock opera in its entirety.

Commenting on what WHO fans can expect on the 2019 MOVING ON! tour, Pete Townshend stated: ““The Who are touring again in 2019.  Roger christened this tour Moving On! I love it. It is what both of us want to do. Move on, with new music, classic Who music, all performed in new and exciting ways. Taking risks, nothing to lose. Looking forward to seeing you all.  Are you ready?”

Commented Roger Daltrey:Be aware Who fans! Just because it’s The Who with an orchestra, in no way will it compromise the way Pete and I deliver our music. This will be full throttle Who with horns and bells on.”

The Who are one of the top three greatest rock legacies in music history.  Their music provoked explosive change and spanned what many critics declare is rock’s most elastic creative spectrum, with Pete Townshend’s songwriting moving between raw, prosaic, conceptual, and expressively literate.  Their visionary sense of stagecraft headed by Roger Daltrey’s soaring vocal prowess is topped off by the band’s blistering rhythm section.  With both Roger and Pete delivering their own

memoirs in recent years (Pete’s Who I Am was released to much acclaim in 2012, and Roger’s autobiography, Thanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite; My Story, was embraced by critics in 2018) it’s fitting that the two remaining WHO members have shared their incredible legacy in literary fashion, for few bands have had a more lasting impact on the rock era and the reverberating pop culture than The Who.

Emerging in the mid-1960s as a new and incendiary force in rock n’ roll, their brash style and poignant storytelling garnered them one of music’s most passionate followings, with the legendary foursome blazing a searing new template for rock, punk, and everything after.  Inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, the band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, placing 27 top-forty singles in the United States and United Kingdom and earning 17 Top Ten albums, including the 1969 groundbreaking rock opera Tommy, 1971’s pummeling Live At Leeds, 1973’s Quadrophenia and 1978’s Who Are You.  The Who debuted in 1964 with a trio of anthems “I Can’t Explain,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “My Generation.” Since then they have delivered to the world hits such as “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Pinball Wizard,” Who Are You,” and,” You Better You Bet.”

In 2008, they became the first rock band ever to be awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. The Who has performed all over the world including global music events for the Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show in 2010 and closing the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The Who continued their charity work by playing a concert in January 2011 to raise money for trials of a new cancer treatment called PDT. In December 2012 they performed at the Hurricane Sandy Benefit in New York. In January 2014 they played a set on the U.S. television special to support the charity Stand Up To Cancer. In November 2012 Daltrey, with Townshend at his side, launched Teen Cancer America. The charity is now established in the USA, with offices in Los Angeles and devoted Teen Cancer units being opened in hospitals all over the U.S. TCA’s work has impacted over 5,000 young people and their families nationwide during the last six years.

Classic Rock Legends Foreigner Announce Massive Reunion Concert

Classic Rock Legends Foreigner Announce Massive Reunion Concert

Foreigner is ready to rock audiences in 2018!

“I Want To Know What Love Is.” “Cold As Ice.” “Hot Blooded.” “Juke Box Hero.” FOREIGNER, the band behind these classic and iconic songs, recently kicked off their 29-city “Juke Box Heroes“ tour as they rock  across the US with one of the hottest Live Nation tours of the summer. Last night in Syracuse, New York, history was made after FOREIGNER  – Mick Jones (lead guitar), Kelly Hansen (lead vocals), Tom Gimbel (rhythm guitar, sax, vocals), Jeff Pilson (bass, vocals), Michael Bluestein (keyboards), Bruce Watson (guitar) and Chris Frazier (drums) – played the latest stop on their “Juke Box Heroes” tour.

Here, founding member Mick Jones and Kelly Hansen shared a historic announcement – FOREIGNER’s first-ever ticketed reunion concert featuring all original members will take place on August 4, 2018 at The Sturgis Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, South Dakota. Here, Lou Gramm, Dennis Elliott, Al Greenwood, Ian McDonald and Rick Wills will join Mick Jones and FOREIGNER to rock through some of the best-selling songs from the band’s 10 multi-platinum albums and 40 years of enduring top ten hits. While FOREIGNER’s original members have joined the band for surprise appearances in the past, never before have they announced a ticketed reunion where fans can join in for the ultimate soundtrack of summer. For tickets to FOREIGNER’s performance on Chip’s Wolfman Jack Stage as part of the 9-day annual event known as “The Largest Music Festival in Motorcycling,”® please visit www.buffalochip.com.

Says Mick Jones, “It’s been incredible to have Lou, Dennis, Al, Ian and Rick join us for some surprise appearances throughout the past few years. It always brings back special memories. But now, for the first time, we are letting our fans know we’ll be making history together at The Buffalo Chip on August 4th with a FOREIGNER reunion concert, and we hope they’ll come on down to Sturgis and join us!”

This announcement comes on the heels of the 40th Anniversary of FOREIGNER’s best-selling album, Double Vision, and the band is working on a very special release to celebrate the momentous occasion.

FOREIGNER is also charting new territory on the album charts, as their latest album, Foreigner with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus has topped the Billboard Classical Album Chart for multiple weeks, and continues to sell out tour dates across the world. MOTÖRHEAD to Release “Under Cöver” Album On September 1st

MOTÖRHEAD to Release “Under Cöver” Album On September 1st

One thing Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee liked to do throughout their years together in MOTÖRHEAD was grab a favorite song by another artist and give it a good old fashioned ‘Motörheading’.  To run them through the Motörizer, if you will. To rock them, roll them and even give them an extra twist and edge.

In celebration of some of those finest moments, the band will release Under Cöver, a collection of some of their best covers, and a collection which will include the previously unreleased version of David Bowie’s timeless classic “Heroes”.  Recorded during the Bad Magic sessions in 2015 by Cameron Webb, and was one of the last songs the band recorded together.

Mark Slaughter To Release ‘Halfway There’ Solo LP On May 26th

Mark Slaughter To Release ‘Halfway There’ Solo LP On May 26th

Legendary Hard Rock vocalist Mark Slaughter has announced the upcoming release of his sophomore solo release HALFWAY THERE, being released in MAY Worldwide via EMP LABEL GROUP, the US based label of Megadeth bassist David EllefsonHALFWAY THERE, the follow up to 2015’s independently released REFLECTIONS IN A REAR VIEW MIRROR, is a stunning return to form for Slaughter, channeling the familiar Hard Rock sensibility of classic-era SLAUGHTER releases like Stick it to Ya and The Wild Life on “Hey You” and emotionally-charged title track “Halfway There”, with a mature, progressive, Metal bent, evidenced on cuts like “Devoted”, “Conspiracy”, and “Reckless”.

Produced and co-mixed by Slaughter with John Cranfield (AFI, Andy Grammer), with art by famed horror/album artist “Mister” Sam Shearon (Rob Zombie, Iron Maiden, KISS, Clive Barker) HALFWAY THERE is slated to be released May 26th in North America by EMP LABEL GROUP/AMPED, and EMP/SPV in Europe, and May 10th in Japan via EMP LABEL GROUP/UNIVERSAL.

Mark will tour Japan in May with Slaughter, supporting RATT, in conjunction with the Japanese release of the LP, with shows in Nagoya, Osaka, and a performance at the Tokyo Metal Summit, May 14th with Ratt, Sebastian Bach, E’nuff Z’nuff, and more.

Not only is HALFWAY THERE a blistering showcase of Slaughter’s seemingly never-ending vocal abilities, but a glowing testament to his perpetually underserved prowess as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, handling all production, engineering, songwriting, arrangements, guitar, and the bulk of the album’s instrumentation himself.

Slaughter says, “My first solo record (Reflections in a Rear View Mirror) was kinda getting back on the horse, so to speak. I mean doing everything and recording… I’m taking on a lot more tasks as an engineer/producer/ writer on all this… because I’m doing everything. Ultimately at the end of the day, anybody who is a SLAUGHTER fan, will certainly understand that I am a large part of the Slaughter sound and vibe, so obviously if you like that, it’s in there. It’s just that I take a lot more liberties on the solo side that I probably wouldn’t do when it’s a group effort.”

He adds, “The record is basically.. I spend a lot of time writing songs and things just grow out of me.. Ill be woken up in the middle of the night from nowhere and the song’s just in my head and I just exorcize the demons and there you have it. I guess what it is is, an artist makes art. And I’ve really come to the fact that since we haven’t made a Slaughter record in so long, it’s one of those things that I still have to make the art. That’s what I do. That’s what I love to do, and that’s what I’ll continue to do.”

EMP A&R director Thom Hazaert chimes in, “It’s been such an incredible honor to put this record together with Mark, who truly, in my humble opinion, is one of the greatest Hard Rock singers and songwriters of our generation, and, what a lot of people don’t realize, just a phenomenal player as well. We spent almost a year going back and forth about the idea of putting the record out together, obviously Mark and David (Ellefson) have a great longstanding friendship, so it really was an amazing fit.

From the first time I heard the working demos of these songs, I knew Mark was working on something very, very special. Growing up (and still) a huge Slaughter fan, I think these songs are going to not only resonate with the people who already love Mark and what he does, but carve a niche far beyond.“

Ellefson adds, “I have been friends with Mark for over 30 years, since he was in Vinnie Vincent Invasion, and there’s a lot of shared history. So when we started talking about the idea of putting this record out, yes, it was a great and natural fit. Mark is such a tremendous talent and songwriter, and the scope of that is truly evident on Halfway There. We’re extremely proud, and excited, to have been able to partner with him on it, and can’t wait for the World to hear it.”

DON’T LET UP: Kelly Keagy On Bringing Night Ranger’s Powerful New Album To Life!

DON’T LET UP: Kelly Keagy On Bringing Night Ranger’s Powerful New Album To Life!

Night Ranger exploded onto the music scene 35 years ago and haven’t stopped rocking since! Through the years, Night Ranger has earned widespread acclaim, multi-platinum and gold album status while leaving their indelible mark on the music charts with a string of best-selling albums and producing legendary hits such as “Sister Christian,” “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me,” “When You Close Your Eyes,” the anthemic “(You Can Still) Rock In America,” along with “Sentimental Street,” “Goodbye,” “Sing Me Away” and “Four in the Morning.” With more than 17 million albums sold worldwide, more than 3,000 live shows performed and more than 1 billion in radio audience, Night Ranger has both epitomized and transcended the arena rock sound and style of that era and beyond. With songs that impacted popular culture and continue to expand their ever-growing fanbase, Night Ranger is proof that powerful songs, plus accomplished musicians are the perfect formula for continued success.

In 2017, the legendary band will write the next chapter of their story with the release of their the 12th studio album — ‘Don’t Let Up.’  The album serves as the culmination of the band’s work to date and celebrates the band’s 35th anniversary with incredible melodic cuts and hard rocking numbers. Self-produced by the band, Night Ranger’s new album has everything fans, old and new, could ask for! ‘Don’t Let Up’ is the result of five musicians living and breathing rock ‘n’ roll 24 hours a day. 35 years on and Night Ranger is once again ready to let the fans know.

Jason Price of Icon Vs. Icon recently caught up with Night Ranger’s Kelly Keagy to discuss his journey as a musician, the making of  ‘Don’t Let Up’ and the challenges they faced along the way.

How did music come into your life and what went into finding your creative voice?

When I was younger, my older brothers used to play records in the house and I totally latched onto that. I remember hearing stuff like Little Richard and Elvis Presley as a 5-year-old. Not long after that, I started to play. I was about 7 years old and that was when Motown, The Beatles and all that stuff was going on, along with transistor radios. There was really a wealth of music out there at that point.

Kelly Keagy

What influence helped shape you as an artist moving forward in life?

In my neighborhood, there was a gentleman named Richie Ray who had played with a surf band called The Safaris out of Los Angeles. When I got to be 16 years old, he asked me to play with him and do a few gigs. I really learned a lot from him. In that project, I was 16 and a lot of the guys were around 30 years old. So, I always had a chance to play with the older, more seasoned musicians and I learned a lot from the guys who had been out there and done a lot of gigs. That was a great opportunity for me. Going forward, it seemed I was always playing with older musicians and, for some reason, I was always the youngest guy in the band. It was really cool and it helped me because they were showing me the bands that they were listening to and I was inspired by that. It was truly an amazing time!

You spent your life in the music business and had great success along the way. In addition, Night Ranger is celebrating 35 years together as a band. What are the keys to longevity in this business?

I think you have to be happy with where you are at the time and being creative should be enough. I never had the mentality of “I want to be famous,” “I want to make a bunch of money” or “I want to be a rock star!” I never had that! I was always happy with where I was at the time and when I was playing music, I was living in the moment. That always helps because if you have aspirations of being famous or making a lot of money, you might get let down. However, if you’re happy about playing music with other people, then that will be the inspiration to keep you going forward. I think playing with other musicians and being creative with other people is really important.

The title of the new record from Night Ranger, “Don’t Let Up,” ties into that well. How did the ball get rolling on this album?

We got started in January of 2016. With the last two albums that we have done, we’ve just booked time and scheduled writing sessions. That allows us to come into a room, Brad [Gillis], Jack [Blades] and myself, and start throwing musical ideas around. We start jamming and start pulling stuff out of the blue. It’s been kind of cool because there’re no prewritten songs and we start writing each album with a clean slate. It’s like, “OK, I have this idea for a chorus … ” or “I’ve got this riff … ” or “I’ve got this groove!” We just start moving forward and inspiring each other each step of the way. That’s how things start to move forward. For this record, we got together in Nashville, along with other sessions out in California and Seattle. With those sessions, we found we had more than half the record written. It was all about getting in the room and playing off of each other!

Night Ranger’s ‘Don’t Let Up’

Did you have goals or aspirations for the album as it started to take shape?

I think we wanted to continue what we have done with the past two records, which is to create good songs featuring ideas and playing and to not come out of there until we had it! The great thing about it is that we could get together, write four songs, live with them for awhile, go do some dates and then come back together after a month or so and continue the process. We would look at it as, “OK, we have four songs that are starting to shape up. What do we need? Let’s keep jamming and keeping the ideas flowing!” That’s really how it happened!

Where did you look for inspiration this time around?

I think we looked a lot to the ideas the band has had in the past, tapping into those and expanding on them. We really wanted to utilize the musical abilities that the band has and use that as an inspiration. It really came down to pushing each other creatively.

Did you face challenges in bringing “Don’t Let Up” to life?

Yeah, it was a real challenge to record the album. We all have our own studios but we all live in different places. Keri Kelli is in LA, Eric and Brad are up in the Bay Area, Jack is now up in Seattle and I live in Tennessee. We had to book different sessions to write the album, first of all, to get the songs written. Like I said, that was about three or four different sessions. Then, what we decided to do was use the recording studios we all had in our homes to put it all together. Once we wrote the songs, all we had to do was to pass the sessions around to each other and re-record their part using the tools they have at home. Once we have the templates for the songs from the sessions, we just re-record them that way. The challenge was, when everyone was re-recording their parts, some of us weren’t in the room. That was kind of scary! So, we had to share those sessions and ideas with everybody so that we could all keep on the same plain and have everyone in the loop.

You mentioned Keri Kelli, who is along for the ride this time. You worked with him for a number of years. What does he bring to the table for a project like this one?

I think that he brought in some really cool riffs that we based songs on. He came in with some really unique riffs and we thought, “Oh, that’s good. Let’s use that!” It was really nice that he came in with some ideas and clips of inspirations that we could tap into. The same thing goes for Eric [Levy]. On the last record and the one before that, he came in with some great piano elements that we used. It’s nice to have these two new members of the band be an inspiration and have them be a part of the creative process!

You lived with the songs from this album for awhile now. Which of them stand out to you as ones that came easier and others that were hard to nail down? Anything that didn’t make the record this time around?

The first few songs that were written were “Running Out of Time,” “Day and Night,” “Jamie” and one other song. Then “Truth” came around, along with “Somehow Someway” and “Don’t Let Up.” As we went along, as the months went by, more songs would start to pop through. I think some of the hardest stuff was some of the more up-tempo stuff, for me, like “Somehow Someway.” That song was written somewhere else and I wasn’t even in the room at the time. It was originally a drum machine. So, when that song came up, I was playing to this demo with a drum machine and guitars. That was tough for me because usually songs like that, which are up-tempo, it’s nice to have everybody in the room. When you’re cutting stuff like that by yourself, it can be really frustrating because you’re not playing off other musicians. Everything that was written in the sessions made the record. We did a different play on “Don’t Let Up” to have a different take on it. I did some percussion stuff here at the house and we did this cool kind of jungle vibe to it as another version of the song that’s going to show up. Everything that we wrote made the record and we didn’t hold anything back!

You’ve seen the music industry change through the years. What’s the best part about being a working artist in today’s climate?

I think the best part about the music industry today is that your stuff is going to be heard by a lot of people because of the Internet. That’s a good thing; especially for young musicians! It’s great to be able to get your stuff out there. In the past, you had to do a showcase and play live for the record companies and all this other stuff. Now, you can make a record at home and I don’t think the record companies even care if you can play it live or not! I think with the Internet being out there, you can really get your stuff out there to places you never had access to before. Personally, I’m really excited about the future of music. I think there’s a lot of great artists out there right now! The key is that it’s all about the songs! It’s all about the good songs and people are really out there writing great lyrics! It’s really nice to see that happening and continuing!

When you look back on your career and body of work, how have you evolved as an artist?

I think the biggest factor is that we kept writing some good stuff and kept it together as a band. The three of us, Jack, Brad and I, played together before this band. The fact that we are still together and still able to communicate musically and mentally while growing closer as a family is amazing. We are still together after all these years, still playing, still enjoying playing and still making records! I think it’s incredible that 35 years later, we are still making music together!

What’s the best lesson we can take from your journey?

I think you have to find inspiration wherever you can to write music. It’s important to use your life lessons and put them into your songs. I mean, that’s how we’ve done it! We’ve always used each other and whatever someone is going through at the time in their life as inspiration. I always find myself tapping into whatever’s going on in my life, within my family’s lives or with Jack and Brad and we use that! You have to bring those things in. we go through those things together; so why not write about them together?!

Very cool! It sounds like the future for Night Ranger is very bright! We look forward to catching up with you on the road very soon!

Thank you, Jason! I appreciate your time. Thanks for the opportunity and I look forward to meeting you!
