AFI vocalist DAVEY HAVOK has announced a February 6th release date for his new novel Love Fast Los Angeles. The trailer can be seen below! The book, which follows Havok’s first novel, 2013’s Pop Kids, is available for pre-order by clicking http://lovefastlosangeles.com/

Love Fast Los Angeles was written and edited all over the world, and in the skies above it, but the majority of it was tapped out in a West Hollywood coffee shop,” says Havok. “The owners and managers were kind enough to let me squat while sapping their wireless. I began writing it immediately after Pop Kids was finished. I was easily inspired to keep that world alive out of love for the writing process, for the pop kids themselves, and by the impact of the very real culture they represent. After taking a pause for Broadway, whilst hiding in a hole below my friend’s garage in the Hollywood Hills, I was encouraged to return to the manuscript by my dear friend and publisher.”

Love Fast Los Angeles tells the story of Alvin, a party photographer. His controversial, taste-making site has brought fortune and fame to hundreds, including the wild girls of the hit reality series “All F’s.” With a fiery, freshly broken heart, Al attempts to enact his vendetta against a former online teen heartthrob while struggling to gain the affection of disaffected socialite, Sky Monroe. In this millennial love story filled with fast cars, pop stars, outrageous poseurs, lavish parties, golden guns, designer drugs and drag queens, dark Hollywood looms behind a blinding spotlight, directing all. Here celebrity is God, irreverence is revered, and obsession takes the wheel to run every red light in this pop-fueled noir.

“Initially I’d considered Score’s older brother to be the protagonist and the setting to be Los Vegas,” tells Havok. “When I recognized the unique character of the young party photographer, I knew Alvin had to voice this tale. I felt it would be fun to tell a modern love story below a harsh spotlight. With LFLA, as with Pop Kids, I’ve repeatedly experienced its moments come to life around me, if not identically, very close – it’s rather unnerving. In fact, just yesterday I was told of a young lady about town who speaks with Sky’s exact faux accent. This is already happening again in the very early stages of writing the third novel. No matter how extreme, life seems to match or outdo my characters.

Also, I am thrilled to have Sean From Texas illustrating. Despite his Southern moniker, his art perfectly represents the tone of the book, and an omnipresent facet of Hollywood culture. I was a fan of Sean’s before we met. Around 1am on the first night of our friendship, he gave me one of my favorite tattoos. In return, I tattooed ‘The Devil Loves Me,’ on his butt. Shortly after, I asked him if he’d be interested in a collaboration.  I couldn’t envision the physical copies of this book without his artwork. I was elated when he said yes to the project. I believe five years will have passed between the release of Pop Kids and LFLA. During the interim I have co-written and released, Burials, XTRMST, Material, Blood, DREAMCAR… and the 4th Blaqk Audio (I shan’t be responsible for leaking that title yet.) I’m diligently working on a third book in hopes of having it released in less than a decade.”

ABOUT DAVEY HAVOK
The lead singer of AFI, Blaqk Audio, XTRMST and Dreamcar, Davey Havok has released over sixteen records, acted on-screen and performed on Broadway. He also contributes to the dark and beautiful design behind Eat Your Own Tail. His debut novel, Pop Kids, was published in 2013. Born in New York, raised east of the San Francisco Bay by vegan nonbelievers, Havok currently resides amidst watchful livestock and diaphanous garments in a Southern Californian institution of higher learning. Love Fast Los Angeles is his second novel.

Multi-platinum-selling alt-rock band AFI have announced a January 20th, 2017 release date for their highly anticipated new album, AFI (The Blood Album). The quartet (vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, bassist Hunter Burgan and drummer Adam Carson) is previewing the album with today’s release of two new tracks – “Snow Cats” and “White Offerings.” Both songs are available as instant downloads by pre-ordering AFI (The Blood Album) on iTunes or Amazon.

Fans can stream the new tracks on AFI’s official site.

News of the album’s release follows widespread speculation about the band’s plans. Earlier this week, influential alt-rock radio station KROQ posted a news story titled, “AFI Are Up To Something. But What?” Fans around the globe asked the same question, posting messages on social media and comparing conspiracy theories after the band blacked out their Facebook and Twitter account photos, completely wiped their Instagram page and posted a series of suspenseful teaser videos. “AFI has been teasing us nonstop for about four days,” wrote AP. “But that didn’t prevent us from diving way too deep into the AFI rabbit hole and trying to find every connection and possible hint we could.”

Recorded at Megawatt Studios in Los Angeles, AFI (The Blood Album) was produced by Jade Puget and co-produced by Matt Hyde (Deftones) and is the follow-up to 2013’s Burials, which hit Top 10 on The Billboard 200.  Since the release of 1995’s debut album Answer That and Stay Fashionable, AFI has written and recorded five top ten hit singles, hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200 (with the stunning Decemberunderground), garnered worldwide critical acclaim and amassed a fiercely loyal global following whose members number in the millions.

AFI (The Blood Album)  is the band’s 10th full-length studio album and first for Concord Records.

AFI’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget Announce BLAQK AUDIO’s “The Material Tour”

AFI’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget Announce BLAQK AUDIO’s “The Material Tour”

blaqaudio-2016-2

DAVEY HAVOK and JADE PUGET have announced a string of live shows for their electronic alter ego, BLAQK AUDIO. The dates will begin May 4th at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA, in support of Blaqk Audio’s new album MATERIAL, which is set for an April 15th release through Blaqknoise/Kobalt. They’ll be joined on the tour by indie band Night Riots.

The duo recently gave fans a preview of the record with lead track “Anointed,” which can be streamed HERE.  Fans can get “Anointed” as an instant download by clicking HERE to pre-order MATERIAL on iTunes.

Produced and recorded by Puget, MATERIAL is Blaqk Audio’s third release following 2012’s Bright Black Heaven and 2007’s Cexcells.

Though best known for their work with multi-platinum rock band AFI, Havok and Puget’s shared love of electronic music runs deep. Havok, who counts Devo’s Freedom of Choice and Duran Duran’s self-titled debut among the first albums he owned, saw his tastes evolve over the years from the synth pop of Erasure and Pet Shop Boys to Depeche Mode and ultimately to the heavier, darker Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Front 242 and Lords of Acid. Later, Havok immersed himself in the “futurepop” genre, which combined dark dance-y electronica with melodic vocals. From roughly 1999 to 2003, his contemporary musical diet consisted almost exclusively of artists falling under the industrial/ebm/futurepop/bigbeat/trance umbrella.

In an interview with influential Los Angeles radio station KROQ, Havok talked about the differences between Blaqk Audio and AFI: “Blaqk Audio is pure electronica whereas AFI uses organic instruments,” says Havok. AFI has drums and bass and guitar and there’s none of that in Blaqk Audio.”

Puget shared his bandmate’s long-standing love of electronic music, beginning with a passion for Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Ministry, Squarepusher, Nitzer Ebb, and Front 242, spending a great deal of time programming electronic music, which in turn led to a plan to start an entirely electronic side project: no organic instruments, just synths, keyboards, drum machines, and software.

“Being huge music fans and fundamentally driven by music in a creative sense, BA is a wonderful outlet for our long-standing love of electronic music,” says Havok. “Were it not for BA, I’d still be writing this type of music, even if it never saw the light of day.”

The tour will see them playing music from all three Blaqk Audio releases. Dates are as follows (with additional shows TBA):

May 4 – House of Blues – San Diego, CA

May 5 – Observatory – Santa Ana, CA

May 6 – Troubadour – Los Angeles, CA

May 7 – Ace of Spades – Sacramento, CA

May 10 – Doug Fir Lounge – Portland, OR

May 11 – Croc – Seattle, WA

May 13 – In The Venue – Salt Lake City, UT

May 14 – Bluebird – Denver, CO

May 16 – Turf Club – Saint Paul, MN

May 17 – Bottom Lounge – Chicago, IL

May 18 – Mod Club – Toronto, ON

May 20 – Sinclair – Cambridge, MA

May 21 – U Street Music Hall – Washington, DC

May 22 – Bowery Ballroom – New York, NY

AFI’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget Return With Blaqk Audio; New Album ‘Material’ Drops April 15th

AFI’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget Return With Blaqk Audio; New Album ‘Material’ Drops April 15th

blaqaudio-2016-2

DAVEY HAVOK and JADE PUGET have announced an April 15threlease for MATERIAL (Blaqknoise/Kobalt), the new album from the duo’s electronic alter ego, BLAQK AUDIO. They’re giving fans a preview of the record with lead track “Anointed,” which can be streamed HERE.

Fans can get “Anointed” as an instant download by clicking HERE to pre-order MATERIAL on iTunes.

Produced and recorded by Puget, MATERIAL is Blaqk Audio’s third release following 2012’s Bright Black Heaven and 2007’s Cexcells.

“I’m so very excited to offer Material to the world,” says Havok. “My anticipation for each BA release heightens as we grow. For me, lyrically, Material is darker than our records of the past.”

“Considering this is Blaqk Audio’s third record over the course of its 15-year existence, it’s always an exciting and rare opportunity to release a new batch of songs,” says Puget. “Each new release finds us in a very different place, creatively, than the last,” adds Puget. “Influences are different, musical interests have slightly or vastly shifted. As a writer, I’ve moved fully onto [software music sequencer] Ableton Live since the last album, which changes my workflow and writing style.”

About first track “Anointed,” Havok says, “’Anointed’ highlights themes of misplaced hopes of salvation, redemption and rebirth that carry through the record.  Material is the blank canvas, the fundamental substance, the base of what we create.”

AFI’s Davey Havok And Jade Puget (XTRMST) Release Music Video For “Conformist”

AFI’s Davey Havok And Jade Puget (XTRMST) Release Music Video For “Conformist”

xtrmst-primary-promo-photo-extralarge_1411754089663

AFI lead vocalist Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget have released the first music video for their straight edge hardcore band XTRMST. Making its debut on NOISEY, the video is for their first single“Conformist” – watch it here. The track is off the duo’s self-titled debut album, which NOISEYboasts as “…dark, frantic, and moody, tinged with electronics and very slick.” The LP is set for release next week on Monday November 17 via Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records. Pre-orders are now live for the album on iTunes, and you can grab the “Conformist” single HERE.

“Jade and I have been talking about starting a straight edge hardcore band for years,” says Havok. “We started writing and recording in early 2012 and chose the name XTRMST because it expresses the messages represented on the record. The straight edge movement is not one of moderation. It’s based in undeniable objective truths.”

“The straight edge philosophy is something that Davey and I gravitated towards at a young age, drawn by concepts and ideals that seem almost foreign in modern society,” says Puget. “Like much of the other subcultures we were a part of growing up, it put us at odds with 99% of the people around us, which was something we embraced. Being sXe for over 20 years and being musicians, it seemed natural that this crucial ideology would find a musical expression.”

The 14-track XTRMST album was produced and mixed by Puget at his home studio and at The Treehouse in Los Angeles, and its November 17 release will come via Dim Mak Records, the indie label founded by DJ/producer (and former member of hardcore band This Machine KillsSteve Aoki. Although Aoki and Dim Mak are most often seen as leaders in the electronic dance music space, the release of the XTRMST album marks a return to Aoki and Dim Mak’s hardcore roots. “I met Davey a while back and we bonded over our shared experiences in straight-edge culture. We found a lot of kinship there, and so it made sense for us to release an album that represents the spirit of what originally birthed Dim Mak,” states Aoki.

“These songs are the purest expression of emotion, with no thought towards commerce or accessibility,” says Puget. “And the album was made with the amount of money you have in your pocket right now – just 2 people expressing their love and hate into microphones in a tiny room.”

XTRMST: AFI’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget Unveil New Hardcore Side-Project

XTRMST: AFI’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget Unveil New Hardcore Side-Project

xtrmst-primary-promo-photo-extralarge_1411754089663

AFI lead vocalist Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget have announced a November 18 release for XTRMST, the self-titled debut album from the duo’s new straight-edge hardcore band. The first single from the album, “Conformist,” will be available this coming Tuesday, October 7. In conjunction with this announcement, the pair have posted a brand new album track online called “Words For The Unwanted.” Listen now at www.xtrmst.com.

The 14-track XTRMST album was produced and mixed by Puget at his home studio and at The Treehouse in Los Angeles, and its November 18 release will come via Dim Mak Records, the indie label founded by DJ/producer (and former member of hardcore band This Machine KillsSteve Aoki. Although Aoki and Dim Mak are most often seen as leaders in the electronic dance music space, the release of the XTRMST album marks a return to Aoki and Dim Mak’s hardcore roots. “I got into straight-edge hardcore when I was a teen. It was my community, it was the reason I picked up a guitar, it’s the reason I was in bands, and ultimately it was the reason why I started Dim Mak,” says Aoki. Although no longer a staunch straight-edge follower today, Aoki expands, “I met Davey a while back and we bonded over our shared experiences in straight-edge culture. We found a lot of kinship there, and so it made sense for us to release an album that represents the spirit of what originally birthed Dim Mak.”

“I wanted these songs to be chaos, at times difficult to listen to, the wild architecture difficult to understand, but with a taste of the hardcore we grew up on thrown in. The vocals are raw and the main vocal in every song is the first take,” says Puget.

Fans began buzzing about XTRMST this past March, when Vacation Vinyl in Los Angeles offered free copies of a four-song cassette featuring a simple XT logo next to a sign that read, “Do you like hardcore? Fan of Straight Edge? If so – take this tape for free!” The tapes disappeared instantly and rumors of a new project from Havok and Puget lit up the Internet. When the rumor mill went into overdrive, Puget took to Twitter to announce, “Now that the cat is out of the bag, XTRMST is indeed Davey and I. More to come.”

“These songs are the purest expression of emotion, with no thought towards commerce or accessibility,” says Puget. “And the album was made with the amount of money you have in your pocket right now – just 2 people expressing their love and hate into microphones in a tiny room.”

AFI Announce Second Leg Of North American Tour

AFI Announce Second Leg Of North American Tour

afi-2013-1

Multiplatinum alt band AFI have announced the second leg of their headlining tour of North America, set to kick off January 10th at the Rialto Theatre in Tucson, AZ (see full itinerary below). The band is gearing up for the run with a trio of high-profile gigs: on Monday, November 25th, they’ll perform on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” followed by a December 6thshow at the Oracle Arena in Oakland for Live 105’s “Not So Silent Night” and December 7th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for KROQ’s star-studded 24th annual “Almost Acoustic Christmas.” The latter two will see them share stages with Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend, Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys and more.

AFI are touring in support of new album BURIALS, which entered Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart at No. 9 and the iTunesAlternative Chart at No. 2.

Praised by the Los Angeles Times as an album of “ferocious rock performances,” BURIALS’ early success can be chalked up to lead single “17 Crimes” (the video for which can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9Vh8XGgqjE) and a sold-out North American tour that generated rave reviews from fans and critics alike.

About the tour’s electrifying kickoff show, Rolling Stone wrote, “L.A.’s venerable Troubadour has seen a lot of big-name acts in recent months, from Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails to Courtney Love. But none brought the rabid fan energy AFI drew last night…the entire crowd sang along and pumped their arms. It was the first time anybody could recall crowd-surfing and a barricade at the Troubadour.”

The album drew similar accolades, with Revolver proclaiming “it may be the most brilliant record AFI has ever made.” USA Today gave the album 3 stars (out of 4), Alternative Press gave it 4 stars (out of 5), Billboard lauded its “hefty instrumentals and soaring vocal melodies” and the Houston Chronicle called Burials a “truly career-encompassing record.”

Following their upcoming U.S. run, the band will head overseas for festival shows in Australia and Colombia as well as Lollapalooza dates in Chile and Argentina.

Burials is AFI’s ninth full-length studio album and first for Republic Records. The Cali-based band recorded the album with producer Gil Norton (Pixies, Patti Smith, Foo Fighters) at East West Studios in Los Angeles. The record was mixed by Andrew Scheps (Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Over the course of their career, AFI have written and recorded five top ten hit singles (“Miss Murder,” “Medicate,” “Love Like Winter,” “Silver and Gold,” “Girl’s Not Grey”), hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200 (with the stunning Decemberunderground), garnered critical acclaim and amassed a fiercely loyal international following whose members number in the millions.

AFI To Release ‘Burials’ On October 22nd, First Single Available Now!

AFI To Release ‘Burials’ On October 22nd, First Single Available Now!

afi-2013-1

Multiplatinum alt-rock band AFI have announced an October 22ndrelease for their highly anticipated new album Burials. The news follows last week’s sneak preview of the album’s first track, “I Hope You Suffer,” which the band posted on their official site, www.afireinside.net.

Rolling Stone described “I Hope You Suffer” (which is now available on iTunes) as an “epic” song,“layering [lead vocalist Davey] Havok’s anguished cries within a lightning storm of distortion, synthetic orchestrations, and volcanic percussion.”

About the album, Havok says, “This record is of silence, of burials, and the burials that result from that silence. It’s of betrayal, cruelty, weakness, anxiety, panic – deep and slow – despair, injury and loss. And in this it is shamefully honest and resolutely unforgiving.”

AFI (Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, bassist Hunter Burgan and drummer Adam Carson) will be performing “I Hope You Suffer” and previewing additional songs from Burials during their upcoming North American tour, which kicks off September 12th at the Varsity Theater at Minneapolis (see itinerary below).

Over the course of the past several weeks, the band has posted a series of starkly shot black and white vignettes, the first of which debuted in early April. Together with director Surround (The Killers, TV on the Radio, The Drums, Usher, The Bravery), they’ve created six to date, all of which can be seen at www.afireinside.net.

In other news, a remix of a new AFI song titled “17 Crimes” will serve as the end title track to the upcoming film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.  “17 Crimes” also appears on the soundtrack, which is being released on August 20th.

AFI Signs With Republic Records, Putting Touches On New Album For Fall Debut

AFI Signs With Republic Records, Putting Touches On New Album For Fall Debut

afi-2013-logoMultiplatinum alternative rock band AFI have signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Republic Records and are gearing up for the fall 2013 release of their ninth full-length studio album.

The Cali-based band recorded with producer Gil Norton (Pixies, Patti Smith, Foo Fighters) at East West Studios in Los Angeles. The record was mixed by Andrew Scheps (Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers).

“We are thrilled to be joining the Republic family for the release of our ninth record,” says lead singer Davey Havok. “We’ve spent over two years realizing this album and could not be more excited to share it with all.”

Over the course of the past several weeks, AFI (Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, bassist Hunter Burgan and drummer Adam Carson) have posted a series of starkly shot black and white vignettes, the first of which debuted in early April. Together with director Surround (The Killers, TV on the Radio, The Drums, Usher, The Bravery), they’ve created five to date, all of which can be seen at www.afireinside.net.

This September, the band will perform at the Riot Fest & Carnival in Chicago (Sept 13-15) and at the Riot Fest and Sideshow in Denver (Sept 21-22), with details for a full headlining tour coming soon.

Since the release of 1995’s debut album Answer That and Stay Fashionable, AFI have written and recorded five top ten hit singles (“Miss Murder,” “Medicate,” “Love Like Winter,” “Silver and Gold,” “Girl’s Not Grey”), hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200 (with the stunning Decemberunderground), garnered critical acclaim and amassed a fiercely loyal international following whose members number in the millions.
