Walking Papers (Duff McKagan, Jefferson Angell, Benjamin Anderson, Barrett Martin) To Release Sophomore Album, ‘WP2,’ On January 19th!

Seattle’s Walking Papers, featuring Jefferson Angell (The Missionary Position), Benjamin Anderson (both of The Missionary Position) Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), and Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season) and will release the moody and carnal WP2, their second album with Loud & Proud Records on January 19, 2018. Fans can get a taste of WP2 by watching a snippet HERE.

“This record has exceeded my expectations of what I thought that might be,” says Jefferson Angell. “It perfectly captures the raw, explosive energy of a band primed from extensive touring while at the same time achieving the polish and elevation that comes from experimenting in the studio.”

WP2 is the follow up to their 2013 critically acclaimed debut album that Rolling Stonecalled “…dark, alternately sensual and sinister.”  USA Today said, “Sometimes an album sounds nothing like you expect yet still blows you away… It’s powerful yet nuanced, a kind of rock confident enough in itself that it rarely needs force to make its point.” Consequence Of Sound said, “It’s a record that largely eschews typical hard rock fare, opting instead for a blues rock that slinks and wafts as much as it crunches and blusters. This unlikely dynamic makes Walking Papers a pink slip you’ll actually be happy to get.” VH1 described the band’s sound as, “…weathered, bluesy and broken in by years of experience. This is hard rock as made by grown ass men with stories to tell and no one to please but themselves.”

“Walking Papers is happier than a tornado in a trailer park to have our second record see the light of day via Loud & Proud Records,” says Angell.  “It’s been a white-knuckled nail-biter since its conception, and we are pleased to have Tom and Madelyn behind the wheel as we make our way to the delivery room!”

Walking Papers will also be launching a PledgeMusic campaign for pre-orders todayHERE.  There fans will find exclusive offers for merchandise, unique items and experiences with the band, and the only place to purchase the song This Is How It Ends along with its companion comic book by Angell, graphic novelist Matt Hayward, and artist Csaba Master.

Formed in 1986, Green Day was originally part of the punk scene at the DIY 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley, California. The band’s early releases were with the independent record label Lookout! Appetite for Dysfunction: Axl Rose’s Former Manager, Vicky Hamilton, Releases New Tell-All Book

Appetite for Dysfunction: Axl Rose’s Former Manager, Vicky Hamilton, Releases New Tell-All Book

Appetite For Dysfunction-2016At 22, Vicky Hamilton left her hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and arrived on the Sunset Strip as a wide-eyed blonde with an ear for rock & roll: “I was back home interviewing Tom Petty for Three Rivers Review,” says Hamilton, “And he told me I was a ‘real California girl,’ and that’s all it took.” It was 1981, and Hamilton arrived at the center of Hollywood; where the scene was erupting with spandex, sex, cocaine, Aqua Net hairspray and madcap visionaries, like Hamilton, who discovered Guns N’ Roses and became their first manager and surrogate mother. At one point, Guns N’ Roses lived in Hamilton’s apartment, as Axl Rose ducked a rape charge. “I realized I was harboring a fugitive,” she says, “But then Axl ended up crashing on my couch for six months.” Hamilton then negotiated Guns N’ Roses contract with Geffen Records.

In 1986, she was let go and forced to sue the band to recoup the $25,000 she’d borrowed to bankroll them. Hamilton now shares her stories in a memoir about a woman who rode the crazy train with some of rock’s wildest frontmen, and matched their hard-partying ways. Sober for 15 years, Hamilton spent that last seven excavating her private collection of photos, flyers, contracts, letters, and interviews to create a revealing look into her fascinating life. Her book includes new details about her turbulent relationship with Axl Rose and Poison’s Bret Michaels, her experience as an A&R rep for Geffen, and above all, Appetite for Dysfunction is the story of her rise and fall, and how she regained her life by becoming a Grammy Award-winning executive that helped relaunch the career of June Carter Cash in 1999.

About the Author:
Vicky Hamilton is a Grammy Award-winning music industry executive and manager who oversaw the early careers of Guns N’ Roses, Poison, Faster Pussycat and Mötley Crüe. She is considered one of the most successful music industry executives of her time. Appetite for Dysfunction is her unbelievably true story, told for the first-time alongside stunning images and first-hand accounts of a music executive with nearly four decades of rock & roll stories to tell.

Visit Vicky Hamilton’s official website at www.vickyhamilton.com. ‘Appetite for Dysfunction’ sounds like one hell of a read and is available for purchase now!

Title Track from Duff McKagan EP Debuts; “How To Be A Man” Book and EP Both Out May 12th

Title Track from Duff McKagan EP Debuts; “How To Be A Man” Book and EP Both Out May 12th

Duff McKagan - "How To Be A Man"

Duff McKagan – “How To Be A Man”

Rolling Stone is premiering “How To Be A Man,” the title track from Duff McKagan’s new three-song EP. The song, which can be heard HERE, features Izzy Stradlin, Alice In Chains vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell and Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga.

The EP is the musical companion to McKagan’s much-anticipated new book, HOW TO BE A MAN (and other illusions) (Da Capo Press). The book and EP will both be released on May 12 and are both available for pre-order on iTunes at http://itunes.com/DuffMcKagan. Fans that pre-order the EP will get the title track as an instant download.

The follow-up to McKagan’s critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling memoir, IT’S SO EASY (and other lies), HOW TO BE A MAN (and other illusions) sees the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer sharing the wisdom he gained on the path to superstardom.

Among the book’s many highlights:

* McKagan discusses the need for communication in your relationships, especially when you want to see the Buzzcocks in Manchester and your lady has her sights set on Duran Duran in the tropics.

* Together with Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, he solves one of life’s most staggering math problems: if you’ve seen a million faces, is it truly possible to rock them ALL?

* He spills the beans on some of his fellow rock stars (“Gene Simmons is a kick-ass dancer,” “Perry Farrell is an NFL historian and aficionado”).

* Travelers will benefit from his plethora of globe-trotting tips, including what shots to get for malaria, how to pack lightly (“hair conditioner makes for good shaving cream, so no need  to bring both”) and of course, “don’t smoke crack on a leased private jet – the smell gets into everything.”

* McKagan, who still uses a Blackberry (“because loyalty is important”), stresses the importance of not being a d*ck (and don’t be a p*ssy, either). Oh, and get a dog.

* He recalls the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and reuniting with GNR frontman Axl Rose for a handful of South American dates.

* He runs down the list of albums that every man should listen to (from Abba’s Gold to ZZ Top’s Tres Hombres), the books they should read (Stephen Ambrose’s Undaunted Courage and Dexter Filkins’ The Forever War are particular favorites) and what they should tell the first dude who shows up at the door to date daddy’s little girl (“you pull him aside and tell him, ‘everything that you do or try with my daughter tonight, I will do to you when you get back to my home’”).

* Of course, no advice book would be complete without tackling the age-old question: when given the choice of taking a private jet to a yacht to hang out with Steven Tyler for a trip to the San Juan Islands or going home to stain your deck, what do you do? (Remember, “those boards in the backyard are not going to stain themselves”).

McKagan’s wisdom has been sought out on everything from financial planning and relationships to surviving the summer festival circuit and escaping a military coup. Expanding on his popular weekly columns in Seattle WeeklyPlayboy.com and ESPN.com, McKagan equips readers with the knowledge they need to rock fatherhood, manage their money, and remain a good dude in spite of it all.

Pink Slips Unleash Self-Released Debut EP ‘SAY L’OR VENUS’

Pink Slips Unleash Self-Released Debut EP ‘SAY L’OR VENUS’

the-pink-slips-2014

Guns Los Angeles-based punk rock band PINK SLIPS–fronted by 17 year-old GRACE McKAGAN—are unleashing their self-described “shitty punk synth pop music” upon the world with self-released debut EP SAY L’OR VENUS.

The group recently shot a video for their album’s first single, “Foxy Feline,” which you can watch below.

The PINK SLIPS–McKAGANKEENAN BEVENS and TRENT PELTZ–made their live debut at the CBGB Festival last October and have been playing shows in legendary LA venues like The Troubadour and Viper Room. McKagan, who cites David Bowie, Blondie, Iggy Pop and Gwen Stefani as influences, says, “I want my songs to make people excited, to want to dance around, to throw things, to party with their friends, to cry, to feel.”

As the daughter of Duff McKagan, famed bassist for Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver and Walking Papers, Grace grew up surrounded by music and has always been drawn to the punk rock ethos, but feels strongly about having her music reach the masses.  “My goal for the Pink Slips is to break the internet punk scene to the mainstream,” says McKagan.

The PINK SLIPS’ attitude and music evokes the spirit of an era past, when the burgeoning punk scene instilled no boundaries or rules, combined with the group’s love of modern pop.  McKagan says the music is “a tribute to today’s obsession with romanticizing intergalactic fantasies.” Listening to SAY L’OR VENUS, you can hear the raw guitar/girl power on “Foxy Feline” and “Bratty Attitude” and the cosmic influence on “Googlie Eyes” and “Meet You At The Moon.”  “When people come to our shows I want them to feel as if they are in CBGB watching Blondie back in the 70’s. I want them to feel as if they’re going through a time warp that worships punk rock yet appreciates our youth and pop music today.”

The GN’R Appetite For Democracy Official App (IOS/Android) brings the concert experience to a new level by connecting GNR directly with their fans, allowing fans to connect with each other via social media, buy exclusive merchandise, check tour/cinema dates for the movie, preview digital tracks of the film; and purchase or stream via VOD the digital long form concert.

Produced by Rock Fuel Media’s Barry Summers, Appetite For Democracy 3D is the first official Guns N’ Roses live concert film since 1992’s Use Your Illusion concert video and features brand new live performances of classic GNR tracks including “Welcome To The Jungle,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” “Mr. Brownstone,” “Paradise City,” “Nightrain,” “It’s So Easy” and “Rocket Queen,” from their pivotal, 1987 No. 1 debut album Appetite For Destruction; “Patience” and “Used To Love Her” from 1988’s No. 2 charting album Lies; “November Rain,” “Don’t Cry,” “Civil War” as well as the band’s signature versions of Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” and Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door;” powerful renditions of The Who’s “The Seeker” and Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2;” and much, much more.

In 1987 Guns N’ Roses burst onto the hard rock scene and, with their punk rock ethics and an uncompromising, explosive sound, turned a scene filled with synth-pop and hair-metal on its end, propelling the band to the top of the charts. Filling stadiums and arenas across the globe, much like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Sex Pistols, Guns N’ Roses wrote their own chapter in rock and roll history and continue to make their own rules.

Now, celebrated worldwide as one of the most important rock acts in music history, Guns N’ Roses are Axl Rose, DJ Ashba (guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboards), Tommy Stinson (bass), Richard Fortus (guitar), Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (guitar), Chris Pitman (keyboards) and Frank Ferrer (drums). Guns N’ Roses continue on their sold-out global arena tour, with shows in the US, Europe, visits to Latin America and multiple festivals, having played to millions of fans around the globe.

An Epic Event!

The 10th Johnny Ramone Tribute has been announced! This year’s event will be presented by Johnny Ramones’ wife, LINDA RAMONE and hosted by Johnny’s great friend ROB ZOMBIE, who will present a special outdoor screening under the stars of Zombie’s classic film The Devil’s Rejects.

For the all-star live jam, Zombie will be joined by Johnny’s dear friend, punk legend Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) as well as Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses) plus very special surprise guests for some Ramones hits and punk rock classics. The concert will be held in the Hollywood Forever’s Masonic Lodge and broadcast outside to the overflow crowd.

Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live) will also be appearing at the tribute and will bring along his punk rock alter ego, Ian Rubbish, to the festivities.

Metallica guitarist Kirk “Von” Hammett’s special collection of horror movie memorabilia will also be on hand for fans to check out. Rarely seen in public, the collection includes a treasure trove of movie posters, props, toys and costumes from his personal collection.

There will also be an autograph signing session featuring the cult stars from Rob Zombie’s “The Devil’s Rejects.”

Cited by both Time and Rolling Stone magazines as one of the most influential guitarists ever, the JOHNNY RAMONE TRIBUTE brings family, friends and fans together to celebrate the late punk guitarist’s music and legacy with Q&A sessions, screenings of Johnny’s favorite movies and musical guests. Past participants have included Tommy Ramone, Johnny Depp, Rob Zombie, Lisa Marie Presley, Priscilla Presley, Chris Cornell, Nick Cage, Kirk Hammett, Steve Jones, Rose McGowan, Henry Rollins, John Waters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shepard Fairey, Dita Von Teese and Billy Zoom, among many others.
