SUPER DUPER ALICE COOPER: Official Documentary of a Rock ‘N’ Roll Icon To Be Unleashed!

SUPER DUPER ALICE COOPER: Official Documentary of a Rock ‘N’ Roll Icon To Be Unleashed!

A look at a legend!

A look at a legend!

Eagle Rock Entertainment, in association with Banger Films, are proud to announce the world premiere of Super Duper Alice Cooper at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by AT&T, where it will screen as part of their Spotlight section. Taking us through his life and career, ALICE presents his story in the first ever “doc opera” film – a dizzying blend of documentary archive footage, animation, and rock opera.

Super Duper Alice Cooper is the twisted tale of a teenage Dr. Jekyll whose rock n’ roll Mr. Hyde almost kills him. It is the story of Vincent Furnier, a preacher’s son who struck fear into the hearts of parents as ALICE COOPER, the ultimate rock star of the bizarre. From the advent of Alice as front man for a group of Phoenix freaks in the 60’s to the hazy decadence of celebrity in the 70s to his triumphant comeback as 80s glam metal godfather, we will watch as Alice and Vincent battle for each other’s’ souls. Alice’s story is told not only by the man himself, but through exclusive interviews with members of the original Alice Cooper band, Elton John, Iggy Pop, John Lydon, and Dee Snider.

Super Duper Alice Cooper is the creation of Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn at Banger Films, producers of Iron Maiden: Flight 666 (2009 SXSW Audience Choice Winner) and Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage (2010 Grammy-nominated and Tribeca Audience Choice Winner), and much-lauded filmmaker Reginald Harkema, winner of the TIFF Special Jury Prize for his film Monkey Warfare.

The 13th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival will take place from April 16 to April 27 at locations around New York City.

For more information on Super Duper Alice Cooper, please visit: www.SuperDuperAliceCooper.com or like the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/superduperalicecooper

Alice Cooper needs no introduction.  Still touring the world, with over 100 concerts scheduled in 2014, and hosting his internationally syndicated “Nights With Alice Cooper” radio show five nights a week for over a decade, Alice shows no sign of slowing down.

Eagle Rock Entertainment Unleashes Freddie Mercury Documentary “The Great Pretender”

Eagle Rock Entertainment Unleashes Freddie Mercury Documentary “The Great Pretender”

Freddie Mercury

There’s another unseen interview from 1985 filmed on set of ‘I Was Born To Love You.’ Very funny, Freddie tells us how Queen was in a lift when they found out they were no.1 with Bohemian Rhapsody, jumped for joy and the lift stopped. ‘We thought we’d all suffocate in the damned lift.’

Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the release of the Freddie Mercury DVD and Blu-ray, The Great Pretender.  Created by the same team behind the widely acclaimed Queen: Days of Our Lives BBC documentary, The Great Pretender, in similar vein, presents a compelling insight into its subject matter, unearthing previously undiscovered or rarely seen footage and presented for the first time in High Definition.

Produced and directed by Rhys Thomas, life-long Queen fan and expert (to the extent that Rhys famously broke the Mastermind all time record points score with a specialist subject of Queen), Rhys has this time turned his attention to the Freddie archive, going back as early as 1976 in search of vintage gems which reveal more than ever before the inside story of Freddie’s life and career and the solo projects he worked on outside of Queen.

The extensive archive footage is drawn from rare interviews with Freddie, concerts, video shoots and personal material, much of it being seen for the first time, along with newly filmed contributions from fellow Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, Queen manager Jim Beach, soprano Montserrat Caballé, composers David Arnold and Mike Moran, lyricist Tim Rice, comedian and lifelong fan Matt Lucas and many more.

From it emerges a portrait of a man who was very different to his flamboyant onstage public persona.

Among the treasures to be anticipated, The Great Pretender includes for the first time ever Freddie and Rod Stewart singing their demo for “Take Another Piece of My Heart,” an unreleased song from 1984, a snippet of the unreleased Michael Jackson / Freddie Mercury collaboration “There Must Be More To Life Than This”, and Freddie with the Royal Ballet 1979 – never seen in full before.

Rhys, whose extensive scouting for lost material turned up a copy of the band’s first TV appearance among the belongings of late comedian Dick Emery, brings to the light Freddie’s earliest filmed interview from 1976 unearthed in Australia and another unseen interview from 1976 filmed by NBC in the USA.

Rhys also found 10 cans of Freddie’s 39th Black and White birthday party in Mrs. Henderson’s nightclub in Munich in 1985. Originally filmed for the video for “Living On My Own,” and promptly banned by Freddie’s record company because of its cross-dressing theme, there’s much to be enjoyed in watching Freddie and his friends go full out in their efforts to help Freddie celebrate his last birthday before turning 40.

On top of this, The Great Pretender has a feast of outtakes from the video shoots for “I Want To Break Free,” “One Vision,” “Days of Our Lives,” “I Want It All,” “A Kind Of Magic,” “Princes of the Universe,” “Living on My Own,” Born To Love You,” “Great Pretender,” “Made In Heaven,” and “Who Wants to Live Forever.”

As bonus features [that will not make up part of the version to be broadcast by the BBC] the program includes “Freddie Mercury Goes Solo” and an extended interview with Montserrat Caballé.

Coinciding with the release of The Great Pretender DVD will come the release of the new “Barcelona: Special Edition” album with Freddie and Montserrat’s original album re-recorded with full 80 piece orchestra [a feature on the making of this album is included on both formats] and a new book, also entitled The Great Pretender with matching artwork, in September. The Savoy Hotel hosts the second “Freddie For A Day” charity event on September 3 in aid of The Mercury Phoenix Trust – Fighting Aids Worldwide and there is a special premiere of The Great Pretender film at BAFTA on September 6.

Freddie Mercury was one of the most charismatic, complex and fascinating characters in British rock music. A generous, caring, thoughtful man with a self-deprecating sense of humor and a genuine passion for music. Freddie Mercury touched the lives of millions through his career both with Queen and as a solo performer and this new program is sure to delight and inform his legions of fans as never before.

Eagle Rock Entertainment Releases Amazing Documentary “Produced By George Martin”

Eagle Rock Entertainment Releases Amazing Documentary “Produced By George Martin”

Available Now!

Eagle Rock Entertainment has released Produced By George Martin on three configurations: DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Video [MSRP $14.98 DVD, $19.98 Blu-ray, $12.99 Digital].

The documentary is a feature-length profile of Britain’s most celebrated record producer. In this very personal film, Sir George talks about his childhood, his war experience and his early days as a music student. Originally broadcast to great acclaim in 2011 as part of the BBC’s “Arena” series, this version contains over 50 minutes of additional interviews not included in the TV broadcast version. These extras include contributions from Rick Rubin, T-Bone Burnett, Howard Goodall, Jimmy Webb and Ken Scott.

Truly, George Martin has had a career like no other. In the early ‘50s, he joined EMI/Parlophone and started working on orchestral music, music for children and single handedly pioneered a range of hugely successful comedy records with Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Peter Ustinov and others. Then, in 1962, he signed The Beatles and everything changed. Together, George Martin and The Beatles revolutionized pop music and recording techniques, forging probably the greatest producer/artist collaboration there will ever be.

Produced By George Martin features numerous classic clips of the artists he has produced, and new interviews with many of them including Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Michael Palin, Jeff Beck, Rolf Harris, Cilla Black, Millicent Martin and Bernard Cribbins. A fascinating man, and a compelling film.

The Year of The Doors: Newly Discovered Song To Debut On January 9th

The Year of The Doors: Newly Discovered Song To Debut On January 9th

“THE YEAR OF THE DOORS” officially kicks off on Monday, January 9 at noon Eastern when the iconic rock band will officially debut the first new, completely unreleased song in 40 years, “SHE SMELLS SO NICE.” The bluesy track captures the band–organist RAY MANZAREK, guitarist ROBBY KRIEGER, drummer JOHN DENSMORE and late singer JIM MORRISON–joyfully barreling through the full-throttle original. Bruce Botnick, the album’s co-producer with the band, recently made the discovery while reviewing the L.A. WOMAN session tapes. The song will premiere on the band’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/thedoors) on Monday and will then be serviced to radio the following day.

The Doors

Next up in news from THE DOORS: On Friday, January 20 at 7:30 PM there will be a one-time special screening of “Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman” (Eagle Rock Entertainment DVD/Blu-ray) at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA with special surprise guests. Jac Holzman–who signed the group to Elektra Records–and Los Angeles rock radio veteran Jim Ladd will present the film and take questions about the group’s final album and legacy afterwards at a public Q&A session.
“Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman”(Eagle Rock Entertainment DVD/Blu-ray) is told through new interviews with MANZAREK, KRIEGER and DENSMORE as well as Elektra Records founder JAC HOLZMAN, original manager Bill Siddons, engineer/co-producer Bruce Botnick and others. The high-definition video also features live and studio performances as well as rare archival photos. This fascinating documentary contains rare footage of The Doors in the studio and on stage. The documentary was made with the full involvement, approval and cooperation of The Doors.

The group’s final album–1971’s L.A. WOMAN, with the signature hits “L.A. Woman,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm”–is being celebrated with a special 40th anniversary two-CD release from Rhino and a behind-the-scenes DVD/Blu-ray from Eagle Rock Entertainment.

In addition to “She Smells So Nice,” the second disc of the L.A. WOMAN reissue includes eight never-before-heard versions of songs from the album. Alternate takes of “L.A. Woman,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm” offer a fresh view on this landmark album, which was the group’s sixth straight Top 10. The studio chatter between the songs is a revelation, transporting listeners to The Doors Workshop: the West Hollywood rehearsal space where they recorded the album with Botnick. One segment in particular captures a fascinating moment of inspiration when Morrison suggests they add the now-iconic thunderstorm sound effects to the beginning of “Riders On The Storm.”

Rock Legends: The Doors

L.A. WOMAN marked THE DOORS’ swan song, as MORRISON would pass away a few months after its release. At the time, Rolling Stone’s Robert Meltzer called it “The Doors’ greatest album…A landmark worthy of dancing in the streets (5/27/71).” The first band to release eight consecutive platinum albums, THE DOORS were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.

Deep Purple’s ‘Phoenix Rising’ To Hit DVD on June 28th!

Deep Purple’s ‘Phoenix Rising’ To Hit DVD on June 28th!

On June 28, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Deep Purple’s Phoenix Rising – a two-hour-plus revelatory documentary including 30 minutes of never-before-seen (not even on bootleg) onstage footage from Japan. Phoenix Rising will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, & in a special two-disc DVD/CD package.

The release is cause for celebration amongst Purple fans due to the rarity of material. Extensive interviews with keyboardist Jon Lord and bassist Glenn Hughes tell the tale of a band caught by circumstance into one of its most controversial, extreme and exciting eras of its long career. Ian Gillan and Roger Glover were gone. A young unknown singer by the name of David Coverdale was recruited as was bassist Hughes. The results were the albums Burn and Stormbringer (both released in 1974). But then Ritchie Blackmore left the band. Against all odds, they rocked on, recruiting Tommy Bolin (from Zephyr and The James Gang). The album Come Taste The Band (1975) documents the short-lived Bolin era, an era that all came crashing down when the band announced in July of 1976 that it was breaking up. By December, Bolin would be dead due to a heroin overdose. Nine years of silence would ensue.

The never-before-seen 30 minutes, “Rises Over Japan,” has the Coverdale/Lord/Bolin/Hughes/Paice lineup delivering the goods in 1976 on eight songs:  “Burn,” “Getting Tighter,” “Love Child,” “Smoke On The Water,” “Lazy,” “Homeward Strut,” “You Keep On Moving” and “Stormbringer.” (The double-disc package contains these eight songs on CD.) This segment is some of the only video footage that showcases Tommy Bolin performing in Deep Purple.

The 90-minute documentary portion, “Getting Tighter,” recounts the trials and tribulations of a band in turmoil, riding the rock’n’roll roller coaster to total excess. With its live images, backstage footage, never-before-told stories and original video material carefully culled from years of research, it’s a veritable bonanza for Purple fans and fans of Rock History. No stone is left unturned…and sometimes it’s not pretty. Gritty, truthful, wild, this is the story of an era in the 1970s that is simply unforgettable.

‘Bad Company: Live At Wembly’ Due June 28th In Three Formats!

On June 28, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Live At Wembley simultaneously on DVD, Blu-Ray & CD, through its Eagle VisionEagle Records imprints.

They lived up to the hype for nine straight years with a string of six soulful hard-rocking albums. After a four-year break, they got back together minus Rodgers (who had formed The Firm with Jimmy Page). Rodgers returned in 1999.

Sheryl Crow’s ‘Miles From Memphis’ DVD Hits Stores June 7th!

Sheryl Crow’s ‘Miles From Memphis’ DVD Hits Stores June 7th!

Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the simultaneous June 7 DVD and Blu-Ray release, through its wholly-owned Eagle Vision subsidiary, of Miles From Memphis: Live At The Pantages Theatre by Sheryl Crow. Featuring 18-songs in high definition, DTS 5.1 Surround Sound, the 2-hour+ release captures a standout show at this pristine art deco Hollywood venue.

Filmed in the Fall of 2010, the show captures the talented singer/songwriter—touring in support of her 100 Miles From Memphis album—fronting a powerhouse 9 piece band that swings through the best tracks from the record, and reinvigorates fan favorites with a soulful Memphis flavor. And there’s a little Motown in the mix too, with Crow’s 1994 megahit “All I Wanna Do” extended with a jam on Marvin Gaye’s classic “Got To Give It Up”, and a joyous rendition of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”.

Opened in 1930, the Pantages Theatre is an art-deco masterpiece. Howard Hughes once owned the venue, which hosted the Academy Awards from 1949-1959. This glamorous Hollywood treasure provides a stunning backdrop for Crow and her band, The Thieves. “It was a very special night, playing with this incredible band in this wonderful venue, and I’m so happy to be able to share it with all my fans around the world,” said Sheryl Crow.

Bonus features include a special behind-the-scenes bonus feature of Sheryl and her band, and a soundcheck of two songs—“Eye To Eye” and “Stop” which were not in the main show.

Sheryl Crow has sold in excess of 35 million albums worldwide.
