Garbage Announces US Tour in Support of 20th Anniversary Edition of ‘Version 2.0’

Garbage today announced a short US tour in support of the recently announced 20th anniversary edition of their legendary second album Version 2.0. The tour, which kicks off on September 29th in Seattle, WA and wraps on October 27th in Brooklyn, NY, will see them perform the classic album in full, as well as a number of B-sides from the reissue. Tickets for the tour will be on sale at 10:00am local time on April 27th and be available HERE. A complete list of upcoming US tour dates can be found below.

Garbage announced the 20th anniversary edition of Version 2.0 last month. Due for release on Stunvolume/PIAS on June 22, the package will feature the whole original album, as well as 10 B-sides from the era. Pre-order the digital album HERE and visit Garbage.com for updates on standard and deluxe Vinyl formats. The reissue’s first offering, the typically visceral “Lick The Pavement”, is available now HERE.

Version 2:0 is in my opinion the quintessential garbage record,” shared Garbage singer Shirley Manson. “We are all very grateful to the millions of people who took it to their hearts at the time it was released and to those who continue to love on it still“.

Initially released in May 1998, Version 2.0 spawned fan-favorites such as “Push It”, “I Think I’m Paranoid” and “Special”. Shortly after its release, the Recording Industry Association of America honored the album with a platinum certification for exceeding 1 million units sold. Version 2.0 went on to sell over 4 million copies worldwide. The album was nominated for a total of four Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year and Best Rock Album. The album’s third single “Special” was further nominated the following year for Best Rock Song and for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. The video for “Push It” was nominated for eight MTV Video Music Awards.

Speaking about the enduring legacy of the record, the band’s drummer and co-producer Butch Vig explains: “Version 2.0 is the sound of a band growing up, evolving, and more than anything, gaining confidence. When we started recording, we made a conscious decision to not re-invent ourselves, but rather take everything we learned from our debut album and filter it through the new digital technology we were grappling with. Sonically, the album has moments of razor sharp clarity and soft beauty. Indeed, it’s possibly our best album.”

Garbage Debut Music Video For New Single “No Horses”

Garbage Debut Music Video For New Single “No Horses”

Garbage today shared a music video for their new single “No Horses”. Directed by Pancake Mountain creator Scott Stuckey, the politically charged clip can be seen HERE. “No Horses” was released last month and is available now HERE. All of the band’s profits from sales and streaming of the single will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross through the end of 2018.

“It’s been my observation that when governments disregard their citizens for their own greed, the ensuing soundtrack usually kick’s ass. Like Nina Simone’s ‘Mississippi Goddam’ or the Clash’s ‘Straight To Hell’, ‘No Horses’ made me realize that I’m not going insane, these really are fucked up times. The lyrics are powerful so the challenge was to add something visually that wouldn’t ruin the individual’s interpretation,” offered director Scott Stuckey on the video’s inspiration.

Earlier this summer, Garbage released their autobiographical coffee table book, THIS IS THE NOISE THAT KEEPS ME AWAKE via Akashic Books. The book includes never before seen photographs of the band as well as pieces written by each of the four band members. THIS IS THE NOISE THAT KEEPS ME AWAKE can be purchased HERE

Garbage kicked off their co-headline “Rage & Rapture Tour” with Blondie on July 5th in Saratoga, CA and will be touring the U.S. for the duration of the summer. Both bands along with an opening slot from Sky Ferreira played to a crowd of 17,000 fans last month, selling out LA’s Hollywood Bowl. Support for additional Rage & Rapture tour dates will be provided by John Doe & Exene Cervenka followed by Deap Vally. A complete list of upcoming live dates and ticket information can be found HERE.

Blondie – Photo by Alexander Thompson

For the last four decades, Blondie has become and still remains a true national treasure; one whose influence both shaped and continues to inform the worlds of music, fashion and art. From an irreverent Lower East Side punk outfit to bona fide international ambassadors of New York cool, Blondie will forever be synonymous with that punk spirit that lives somewhere in all of us. Comprised of singer-songwriter Debbie Harry, guitarist and co-writer Chris Stein, powerhouse drummer Clem Burke, and long-time band members bassist Leigh Foxx, guitarist Tommy Kessler and keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen, Blondie’s chart-topping success, fearless spirit and rare longevity led to an induction into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, a NME Godlike Genius Awardin 2014, a Q Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in 2016, and more than 40 million albums sold worldwide to date.  Debbie’s persona and the band’s boundary-pushing pop have shaped the look and sound of many chart-topping female artists who followed in the last three decades.  And their newest album, Pollinator(out May 5th via BMG), delves even deeper into this idea: inspiration from Blondie’s action-packed, cross-pollinating past shaping the sound of our collective future. PRESS HERE to listen to “Fun”, the first song off this release, and PRESS HERE to pre-order Pollinator, which features songwriting from Sia, Blood Orange frontman Dev Hynes, British singer Charli XCX, Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio), Nick Valensi (The Strokes), Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and more.
