Off The Top Rope: Our Wrestlemania XXX Predictions!

Off The Top Rope: Our Wrestlemania XXX Predictions!

wrestlemania-xxx-hulk-hogan_3095129

It’s the biggest night of the year for wrestling fans — WRESTLEMANIA! This year marks the highly anticipated 30th anniversary of the legendary event. There are several intriguing matches on this year’s card. While I still long for the days of the earlier ‘Mania cards where there were numerous meaningful matches, this card has shaped up rather nicely. Many of these matches could go either way, so it is with great care that I’ve made these predictions. Here goes:

1. Tag Team Championship: The Usos (champions) vs. The Real Americans vs. Los Matadores vs. Curtis Axel and Ryback

Prediction: The Usos retain the titles

I’d like to see the Usos trade the titles back and forth with a different team, but this isn’t the night for the “trading” to begin. Neither Los Matadores or “Rybaxel” are ready for title runs, and I think Cesaro is ready for a stroing singles run. The Usos are running hot right now to they’ll retain.

2. Diva Championship Invitational

Prediction: AJ Lee

There are so many divas in this match that I won’t list them all here. Natalya is the only one I could see taking the title from AJ, but I have a gut feeling that this isn’t Nattie’s night. AJ, like the Usos, is running strong and will retain.

3. Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Prediction: Big Show

I know Big Show is the obvious prediction here, but he hasn’t had a lot of spotlight as of late, and this could be another jumping off point to another strong singles run. Big E would be a worthy winner, but since he holds the Intercontinental Belt, he doesn’t need to win this match.

4. The Shield vs. Kane and the New Age Outlaws

Prediction: Kane and the New Age Outlaws

I LOVE the Shield, but I think the time has come for Ambrose and Rollins to split with Roman Reigns, so Kane and the Outlaws will pull out a victory here. I think The Shield will have the match in hand before Reigns gets turned on by his partners, allowing Kane and the Outlaws to win.

5. John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt

Prediction: John Cena

I really want to see the talented Wyatt win this, but he hasn’t been around long enough to deserve this shot. It will be a great fight (emphasis on fight), and Cena will show his more aggressive side en route to the victory.

6. The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar

Prediction: The Undertaker

Easiest pick of the card. Undertaker’s streak will never be broken, although Lesnar will come very close. This will possibly be ‘Taker’s most violent Wrestlemania match yet, and his powerful aggression will shine through in his victory.

7. Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H

Prediction: Daniel Bryan

I think this match will either be the first or second of the night, as one of the men will have to go on twice. This will also be a fight, one that will likely go outside of the ring rather a lot. Daniel Bryan will get a clean win over his adversary, and will have to overcome a lot of interference in the process. Therefore, Daniel Bryan will get added to the title match with Randy Orton and Batista.

8. WWE Championship Match-Triple Threat

Randy Orton vs. Batista vs. Daniel Bryan (added to match via victory over Triple H earlier in the card)

Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins the title

I also think there will be plenty of outside interference in this one, with all three men getting their turn to shine over the others. There will be plenty of fighting, but also scientific wrestling. Daniel Bryan will get his well-deserved win and will get his share of the spotlight.

Bonus Predictions:

1. Wrestlemania I Main Event Showdown: I predict Hulk Hogan and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper will have a “staredown” in the ring, paying homage to the first ever Wrestlemania main event. It is also possible that their tag partners from that match, Mr. T and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff will show up, as might their corner men, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “Cowboy” Bob Orton.

2. CM Punk returns: After Daniel Bryan wins and is rejoicing with the crown and chanting “YES! YES! YES!”, CM Punk will return to the WWE, attacking Bryan and setting up a fantastic main event feud.

TNA Launches Unprecedented ‘Where Action Never Ends’ 24/7 Cross-Platform Programming

TNA Launches Unprecedented ‘Where Action Never Ends’ 24/7 Cross-Platform Programming

300action-TNA-2013

www.impactwrestling.com

Coming off the heels of one of TNA’s highest-attended “Bound For Glory” Pay-Per-View events to date, TNA Wrestling announces a 24/7 cross-platform programming initiative, “Where Action Never Ends,” beginning today. Marking an evolution in the way fans experience professional wrestling, through this initiative, cameras will be rolling on the TNA superstars at live events, on the road and in their homes, giving viewers the chance to experience IMPACT Wrestling 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

How this will work: Fans will see compelling, “cameras everywhere” content infused into IMPACT Live on Spike TV every Thursday from 9-11 p.m. ET. For the remaining 166 hours of the week until the next show, they will also have the chance to see many of the wrestlers they love and storylines they follow unfold as this exclusive content filmed during the week will be presented online at www.impactwrestling.com, on social channels including YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as a variety of new distribution channels in the coming months.

A longtime valued partner, Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla, will serve as the hub for TNA’s revolutionized programming strategy with shows primarily taping at their location, along with some IMPACT shows that will be filmed on the road from different markets. The first IMPACT show scheduled from Orlando will air live on November 21.

“The way that people view television has dramatically shifted, and it is incumbent upon us to deliver a modern, revolutionized way of watching professional wrestling to our fans,” said President Dixie Carter. “Our reality is that we only have 82 minutes of programming each week and a large roster of talented professionals that deserve more exposure. With our new ‘Where Action Never Ends’ creative direction, we will deliver just that for both them and the fans.”

Carter continued, “Bringing live events to our fans across the globe will remain a vital element of TNA’s business; however, our renewed focus, as it relates to our television programming, will shift from live event touring to 24/7 show content, so that fans can really get to know our talent. And, in making Orlando’s Universal Studios our programming hub, we have the powerful combination of state-of-the art production facilities and incredible soundstages that will make it easier for us to launch this new production-intensive initiative. We will also be working with Universal to develop new and creative ways for park guests and fans from around the world to experience a unique TNA attraction.”

“Universal Studios Florida Production Group is pleased to be TNA Wrestling’s partner as it launches its 24/7 cross-platform initiative ‘Where Action Never Ends’,” said Pamela Tuscany, Vice President and General Manager, Universal Studios Florida Production Group. “We look forward to the successful launch of ‘Where Action Never Ends’ giving viewers the chance to experience IMPACT Wrestling 24 hours a day/7 days a week.”

Along with a refreshed creative approach, several new characters will be announced in the coming months. In recent weeks, fans have already seen Ethan Carter III (EC3) and Lei’D Tapa, TNA’s newest Knockout.  Universal Studios will also serve as the primary training facility for TNA talent moving forward, providing the opportunity to train and develop talent on an ongoing basis.

The strength and success of TNA’s programming worldwide is at an all-time high. TNA Wrestling ratings around the world are seeing significant increases particularly in important international television markets such as the UK and Germany where the show is the number one wrestling program on television. Additionally, TNA recently inked new deals with distribution partners in Portugal and New Zealand, renewed a multi-year deal in France, and recently-launched programming in India is performing beyond expectation.

“A decade ago, TNA started as a Pay-Per-View only company only and has grown into a global success. I am more excited than ever about our ‘Where Action Never Ends’ creative direction and what will become the next evolution of professional wrestling,” said Carter.

DVD Review: TNA Impact Wrestling’s ‘Bound for Glory 2011’

DVD Review: TNA Impact Wrestling’s ‘Bound for Glory 2011’

I was excited to view my first Bound for Glory event, and it certainly did not disappoint. TNA’s biggest show of the year was exactly that: a big event that was full of excitement and quality wrestling. This two disc set consisted of the main match card for Bound for Glory (disc one) and special features (disc two) such as match previews, post-match reactions, and a special TNA world championship tag team match.

The card opened up with the X Division title match between Austin Aries and Brian Kendrick (love that guy!). If there ever was a match that was nearly impossible to predict, it was this one. This was a tightly contested, high flying, hard hitting match right from the start, with each man clearly putting forth an enormous amount of effort; I’d love to have even a fraction of the athleticism that Aries and Kendrick possess. There were a number of close, near-3 count finishes to this match, with Aries ultimately winning in the end, retaining his gold.

Available Now!

Another highlight of the card was Rob Van Dam against Jerry Lynn in a Full Metal Mayhem match. As a long time fan of both men, especially RVD, I was really looking forward to this one, as the “Full Metal Mayhem” label promised that these men would return to their aggressive, hardcore wrestling roots. This was also a back and forth matchup, with both men hitting key, signature moves…..could there even have been a VanDaminator in there somewhere? These guys were hitting each other so hard, it hurt me just to watch! Seriously, though, this was a match that brought back the nostalgia of over a decade ago when these men feuded for the first time. Van Dam won this one, but this easily could have gone to Lynn. If I had one gripe about this match, it was that it could have been longer, but that is simply a selfish wish, as I am such a big RVD fan.

Another “treat” of a contest was a triple threat match between Samoa Joe, Crimson, and “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan. Lone put out of the Bound for Glory series, Joe took it upon himself to injure many of his peers so that they, too, would not win the BFG series. One of these fellow competitors was Crimson, and he was out for revenge against Joe in this one. Morgan, also injured but not by Joe, was just tired of the Samoan Submission Machine’s underhanded tactics. Now, I was a bit hesitant as this match started: I wondered, would good friends Morgan and Crimson simply team against Joe the whole time, or would they battle each other as well? For a while, Crimson and “The Blueprint” beat upon Samoa Joe, but Joe held his own as well, eventually getting a break when his two opponents fought each other. All three men showed their power games, but also quite a bit of athletic, technical wrestling. In a pretty quick ending, Crimson hit the spear on Joe to win while Morgan was down in the corner.

In a street fight, is there any wrestler as experienced as Bully Ray? Not many if there are, so I expected Mr. Anderson to get his ass kicked for much of the time in his match against Bully Ray. While Anderson did take quite a pummeling, even getting a bloody nose, he also dished out some brutal punishment on Bully Ray as well. These men fought all over the place in this falls count anywhere affair. While this was not the most technically sound match, it was an expertly fought battle during which both men told a story of hatred and malice. It was as if the fans were able to feel the negativity and aggression between both men. Anderson won out, but take nothing away from Ray, both men fought hard in this one.

The “I Quit” Match is a great concept. No man wants to, out loud, say that he quits. Now if any match was to show more malice and hatred between two men than the Anderson/Bully ray match, it was this one. Former best friends Christopher Daniels and “The Phenomenal One” A.J. Styles were on the outs, as Daniels feels that his friendship was taken for granted. This match was awesome, and both wrestlers showed their technical prowess fantastically, more than you would expect in a match of this type. Both me took their turns dominating the other through a combination of submission wrestling, high flying/high impact moves, and sheer brutality. Styles won, but in a rather bizarre (yet intriguing!) fashion. I will not spoil the ending further.

The Knockouts division championship was decided in a four-way match with Karen Jarrett as the referee. Title holder Winter defended against Mickie James, Velvet Sky, and Madison Rayne. All four women showed athletic, quality moves, and each came close several times to winning. Jarrett played an excellent antagonistic, biased referee as well. In a “twisty” ending that I will also not spoil further, Velvet Sky won her first championship, and deservedly so as she put on a heck of a match.

Next was a match that I was skeptical about: the match for control of TNA between Hulk Hogan and “The Icon” Sting. Could these two legends of the wrestling business still put on a captivating show? The answer was a resounding YES! While neither man can move like he used to, both Sting and Hogan can still hit their share of big moves, and, more importantly, can still tell as story as well as (if not better than) anyone in the professional wrestling business. Both men hit their big spots during the match, eliciting enthusiastic reactions from the crowd. This was another tightly contested matchup, with Sting ultimately winning. The end of this one is also fantastic, when members of Immortal team up on Sting after his big win… (I’ll let you all see the rest…enjoy it!).

Finally, we are treated to a world title match between Kurt Angle and Bobby Roode. Both men enter this match in great shape, prepared to do battle. With this being Roode’s first chance at a world title, I found myself rooting for this underdog against the perennial champion Angle. If one word could accurately describe the score of this epic matchup, it would be intensity. Never did I think another TNA wrestler could match the intensity of Angle, but Roode does. Viewers are drawn in as both men show powerful, scientific wrestling and surprising speed as the TNA world championship was on the line. In the end, Angle retained his championship, but not without a bit of controversy (again, I’ll keep that a secret for now!). One couldn’t help but to feel disappointed for Roode after this epic.

Disc 2 contained all of the special features for TNA Bound for Glory: 2011. The match previews were interesting, insightful, and well produced; I wish I watched them beforehand. Also included in the second disc were post-match reactions. These were also interesting, especially the reaction from Roode after his loss; again, we are drawn into his disappointment, but encouraged by his drive to keep after the title. Finally, the TNA world tag team title match is included: challengers Ink Inc. were defeated by Mexican America in a fast paced, high flying match that was also of a good length…how do these guys keep it up for so long? They were truly fun and exciting to watch.

All in all, I am glad that I had the chance to watch TNA: Bound for Glory 2011. It was an exciting event, probably my favorite TNA DVD production to date. Feel good about checking this one out! – Duke Foster
