The Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, Johnny Depp) Announce Spring 2019 Tour Dates

The Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, Johnny Depp) Announce Spring 2019 Tour Dates

The Hollywood Vampires — featuring Alice CooperJoe Perry, and Johnny Depp — have announced Spring 2019 tour dates. The band, which previously performed at Rock In Rio and the 2016 Grammy Awards in addition to U.S. and EU/UK tours last year, will play several shows on the West Coast in May.

All dates are below. The Hollywood Vampires VIP packages will be available beginning Tuesday, March 5. VIP packages may include a meet & greet, photo with the band, a premium seat, and exclusive merchandise. Regular tickets go on sale on Friday, March 8 at 10AM local time. For more information, go here.

Completing The Hollywood Vampires live lineup will be mainstay guitarist Tommy Henriksen (Alice Cooper), along with rock star musician friends Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper) on drums, Chris Wyse (The Cult) on bass, and Buck Johnson (Aerosmith) on keyboard and vocals.

In 1969, on the Sunset Strip at the legendary club, The Rainbow Bar & Grill, The Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar. It was a gathering place for the rock stars living in or passing through L.A. “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members,” says Alice Cooper, a founding member of the original Vampires.

Cooper and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of The Hollywood Vampires should live again — minus the drinking. Cooper and Depp were joined by Joe Perry, who is an old friend of both, and the recording began: a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires. An environment was born for great artists to hang, laugh, and play together.

As Yahoo Music said, “The word ‘supergroup’ gets thrown around a lot these days, but truly, it doesn’t get much super-er than Hollywood Vampires…”

New music from The Hollywood Vampires is expected this summer.

Joe Perry Set For In-Store Signing at Newbury Comics In Boston!

Joe Perry during album release performance at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles.

JOE PERRY–legendary guitarist, co-founding member, principal songwriter and co-producer of Aerosmith–is set for an in-store album signing at Newbury Comics in his Boston, MA hometown.  The signing–in celebration of his just-released solo album, SWEETZERLAND MANIFESTO–will start at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 25.

Rolling Stone’s Steve Appleford captured PERRY’s two-hour, sold-out album release show last week (1/16) at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles that concluded with a climatic finish at the crescendo of “Train Kept A-Rollin'” as JOE smashed his guitar (see image below). “It was a ferocious finish to a two-hour performance of hard rock and muscular blues…” noted Appleford.

“I didn’t know what else to do,” PERRY told Rolling Stone in an interview the following day. “All of a sudden my guitar was in pieces…it was not anything I planned. It was just that the energy was overwhelming.”

JOE was backed by guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), Buck Johnson(keyboards/vocals/Aerosmith) and David Goodstein (drums) who performed the entire set that also featured guest appearances by Slash and Johnny DeppGary Cherone (Extreme/Van Halen) handled vocals for the bulk of the show, with other guest vocalists also lighting up the Roxy: Terry Reid, David Johanson, Robin Zander and Chris Robinson.

Released on his own Roman Records imprint (distributed worldwide by AMPED Distribution), SWEETZERLAND MANIFESTO–which is available now via iTunes and Amazon–marks JOE‘s sixth solo album and is comprised of 10 new tracks. They were all written or co-written by JOE (many with the album’s guest vocalists), except for a cover of “Eve Of Destruction” with JOE on lead vocals and Johnny Depp on drums. The album features guest appearances from a long list of JOE’s friends, colleagues and rock and roll icons.  Highlights include “Aye, Aye, Aye,” which JOE co-wrote with the track’s vocalist Robin Zander, and three collaborations with David Johansen, who sings “I Wanna Roll,” “Haberdasher Blues,” and “I’m Going Crazy,” plus as many co-writes with Terry Reid whose lead vocals light up “I’ll Do Happiness,” (with Zak Starkey on drums), “Sick & Tired” and “Won’t Let Me Go.”

The SWEETZERLAND MANIFESTO track listing is as follows:
Rumble In The Jungle (instrumental)
I’ll Do Happiness (featuring Terry Reid)
Aye, Aye, Aye (featuring Robin Zander)
I Wanna Roll (featuring David Johansen)
Sick & Tired (featuring Terry Reid)
Haberdasher Blues (featuring David Johansen)
Spanish Sushi (instrumental)
Eve Of Destruction (featuring Joe Perry)
I’m Going Crazy (featuring David Johansen)
Won’t Let Me Go (featuring Terry Reid)

About JOE PERRY:
Throughout his career, the electrifying lead guitarist of Aerosmith–America’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band–JOE PERRY has achieved permanent iconic stature in the pantheon of rock.  He has helped to drive his band, over the course of four decades, to sales of more than 150 million albums, critical acclaim, four Grammy Awards (one of which includes the guitar-based instrumental “Boogie Man”) and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. JOE PERRY’s work with Aerosmith has resulted in an unending array of accolades and honors. Beyond their Grammy Awards and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, other key milestones over the nearly 50 year history include:  12 MTV Video Awards; two People’s Choice Awards; six Billboard Music Awards; eight American Music Awards; 23 Boston Music Awards; and an Academy Award nomination for Best Song, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” (from the soundtrack to Armageddon).

How it all began…
In 1972, on the Sunset Strip at a club called the Rainbow Bar & Grill, the Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar.  It was a gathering place for rock stars living in or passing through L.A.  “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members,” says Alice Cooper, a founding member of the Vampires.  “I would walk in on a typical night,” Alice says, “and John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon—who would usually be in a costume like a maid or a chauffeur—Bernie Taupin, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz would be there. The next week might be Bernie Taupin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz.”

Roughly four years ago, Alice Cooper and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again (minus the drinking).  An environment for great artists to hang, laugh and play together. The Hollywood Vampires lives again with the release of the Hollywood Vampires new album.  Alice and Johnny were joined by Joe Perry, who is an old friend of both of them, and with producer Bob Ezrin, the recording began: a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires.  The new album was released on September 11th, 2015 and all artist proceeds are being donated to MusiCares.

Hollywood Vampires Announce Two Shows At The Roxy This September!

The next week might be Bernie Taupin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz.”

Now, returning to where it once began, the Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, and Joe Perry) have announced today two shows at the notorious Sunset Strip music venue, The Roxy.  This will mark the Hollywood Vampires only U.S. appearances on September 16 and 17, and will surely be the most sought after ticket in town. Joining the Hollywood Vampires live will be Matt Sorum on drums, Duff McKagan on bass, Tommy Henriksen on guitar, and Bruce Witkin on piano and guitar. Tickets are on sale on August 14 for the September 16th show at http://ticketf.ly/1EdJvSI and September 17th show at http://ticketf.ly/1W5TvIT.

Additionally on September 24, in what will be their only international appearance, the band will head to Brazil for “Rock in Rio.” Before that show, the band will partner with Starkey Hearing Foundation, an organization that has provided more than 1.8 million free hearing aids to people in need in more than 100 countries, to offer and fit hearing aids to more than 150 people in need.   After the hearing aid fittings, the Hollywood Vampires and Starkey Hearing Foundation will bring a number of individuals to the show so they can hear music for the first time in their lives.

“Hearing connects us to life, our families and to the world around us,” said Bill Austin, founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation. “It’s a precious gift, and we are excited to work with the Hollywood Vampires to introduce so many to the world of sound and help them hear music for the first time.”

Three years ago, Alice and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again (minus the drinking).  An environment for great artists to hang, laugh and play together. HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES: Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, Joe Perry’s Supergroup Announces Debut Album

hollywoodvampires-2015-1

In 1972, on the Sunset Strip at a club called the Rainbow Bar & Grill, the Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar.  It was a gathering place for the rock stars living in or passing through L.A.  “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members,” says Alice Cooper, a founding member of the Vampires.  “I would walk in on a typical night,” Alice says, “and John LennonHarry Nilsson, Keith Moon—who would usually be in a costume like a maid or a chauffeur—Bernie Taupin, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz would be there. The Hollywood Vampires live again with the release of the Hollywood Vampires new album.  Alice and Johnny were joined by Joe Perry, who is an old friend of both of them, and the recording began: a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires.

For the next two years, Alice, Joe and Johnny, joined by producer Bob Ezrin and an amazing group of modern day vampires, including Perry FarrellDave Grohl, Sir Paul McCartneyJoe Walsh, Slash, Robbie KriegerZak StarkeyBrian Johnson and Kip Winger, recorded tracks by their dead friends and heroes.  Also included are two original songs that tell the story of the Vampires, one of which, “Raise The Dead,” has an intro by Sir Christopher Lee, recorded just prior to his death.

Hollywood Vampires

Hollywood Vampires

The album package, an antique book, was created by noted men’s fashion designer (and rock fan) John Varvatos in his signature vintage style.  Alice and Varvatos, both Detroit natives, have been partners in fashion for several years with Alice lending his classic rock style as a brand ambassador.

A sneak peek at the liner notes, penned by original Hollywood Vampire Bernie Taupin, “I’m not here to defend their vices. Over-indulgence of any sort does not ultimately constitute for a healthy mind and body. And while on the periphery of those involved, wives may have come and gone, career choices may have been deemed dubious, and heartbreak in some cases stalked a dark corridor, but in the lair of the Hollywood Vampires only joy and laughter reigned.”

“I’m not completely sure what constituted bad behavior back then, but in this lair it existed in a bubble, a hermetically sealed dome of fun. It may not have been the round table at the Algonquin, but these were witty, intelligent guys who often got raucous and loud, but rest assured there were no bystanders or animals hurt in the making of the Hollywood Vampires.”

All artist proceeds will be donated to MusiCares.

AEROSMITH: April 2015 Marks 40th Anniversary of Critically Acclaimed ‘Toys In The Attic’ Album

AEROSMITH: April 2015 Marks 40th Anniversary of Critically Acclaimed ‘Toys In The Attic’ Album

aerosmith-2015-tour-1

With AEROSMITH set for another massive summer tour, the iconic and pioneering band has one more reason to celebrate in 2015: the 40th anniversary of the release of their landmark album TOYS IN THE ATTIC.  Released April 8, 1975 , the album was AEROSMITH’s third release, becoming an eight-time platinum album and yielding such immortal tracks as “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion.

Critical support for the album included:

Gordon Fletcher’s Rolling Stone album review (7/31/1975) noted: “a five-piece Boston hard-rock band with almost unlimited potential…Aerosmith can be very good…and material like ‘Walk This Way,’ ‘Sweet Emotion’ and the title cut adequately proves this…”

Robert Christgau gave the album a B+ review for Consumer Guide saying, “These boys are learning a trade in record time…Tyler has a gift for the dirty line as well as the dirty look–anybody who can hook a song called ‘Adam’s Apple’ around the phrase ‘love at first bite’ deserves to rehabilitate a blue blues like ‘Big Ten Inch Record.’”

All Music Guide’s Stephen Thomas Erlewine added: “The success of the album derives from a combination of an increased sense of songwriting skills and purpose. Not only does Joe Perry turn out indelible riffs like ‘Walk This Way,’ ‘Toys in the Attic”…but Steven Tyler has fully embraced sleaziness as his artistic muse. Taking his cue from the old dirty blues ‘Big Ten Inch Record,’ Tyler writes with a gleeful impishness about sex throughout Toys in the Attic , whether it’s the teenage heavy petting of ‘Walk This Way,’ the promiscuous ‘Sweet Emotion,’ or the double-entendres of ‘Uncle Salty’ and ‘Adam’s Apple.’ The rest of Aerosmith, led by Perry’s dirty, exaggerated riffing, provide an appropriately greasy backing. Before Toys in the Attic, no other hard rock band sounded like this…Aerosmith was a gritty, street-wise hard rock band who played their blues as blooze and were in it for a good time; Toys in the Attic crystallizes that attitude.”

Highlights from a  VH1.COM (4/7/15) piece entitled “‘Toys in the Attic’ Turns 40: Ranking The Songs On Aerosmith’s Classic Album,” include:  “You See Me Crying,” on which “rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford…cascades luscious licks atop the song’s crescendo, turning its closing moments–as well as the album’s–into a breathless rush of, indeed, sweet emotion.”  On “Round and Round,” Joey Kramer’s “initial climbing drums that collapse into a cosmic stomp,” while “‘Sweet Emotion’ seems to float up out of a desert heat-storm, powered by Tom Hamilton’s looping bass-line…” And on “Walk This Way”:  “Joey Kramer’s stuttering kick-off drumbeats on ‘Walk This Way’ blow open a path for Joe Perry’s guitar riff, which is arguably his most famous and inarguably one of the most perfect in all of rock.” The title track is “a tsunami of [Whitford’s] guitar and [Kramer’s] drums and [Hamilton’s] bass that somehow go backward and forward at the same time.”

Joe Perry’s Merry Christmas

Coming off the release of his New York Times best-selling memoir, ROCKS: My Life In and Out of Aerosmith (releasedOctober 7 via Simon & Schuster), JOE PERRY has just released a four song EP: JOE PERRY’S MERRY CHRISTMAS (Unison Music Group).  PERRY’s first-ever collection of holiday songs features four Christmas classics: “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “Santa Claus Is Back In Town” and “Run Run Rudolph” with Johnny Depp on rhythm guitar. The EPis available now at Unison’s website or on iTunes.

“I have wanted to do a Christmas CD with Aerosmith for years, but it seems we never have the time to record one,” JOE says.  “When my ROCKS book tour ended, the timing was right–we were in LA with access to a studio with some really talented friends and it all fell together.  I was finally able to record some Christmas classics for the fans.”

JOE PERRY TALKS ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS

With so many holiday songs out there, how did you choose these selections? And, why did you choose to record some as instrumentals and others as vocal tracks?

JP:  “The two instrumentals are among the 10 most popular Christmas songs. Almost everyone knows the lyrics to ‘Silent Night’ and ‘White Christmas,’ so we treated them as songs that people could sing along to, while staying close to the classic versions everyone knows. The two vocal songs, ‘Santa’s Back in Town’ and ‘Run Run Rudolph’ are rockers made famous by Elvis and Chuck Berry. They are probably less well known so you would have to hear the lyrics to know they are Christmas songs. They are two of my favorite holiday songs.”

What do the holidays mean to you?

JP:  “It’s a time for the family to get together and try to put the troubles of the world aside for a short while.”

Do you have any annual family holiday traditions?

JP:  “We always open a gift the night before Christmas.  Now that the kids are older, we wake up and have brunch in front of the fire while opening the traditional Christmas stockings–that were handmade by their grandmother–and have hung on the mantle for years.  We take our time opening gifts and do not rip through them, making the day last as long as possible. We usually eat appetizers Christmas Day because we normally have a big Christmas Eve dinner, although it varies from year to year. We usually end up watching Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story with our family later in the day.”

You’ve talked a lot about your upbringing in your new book ROCKS, do you have a favorite holiday memory?

JP:  “There was a time after Aerosmith got back together when we were doing almost yearly New Year’s Eve shows. One of my favorite ones was at the Orpheum right before the New Year rang in–we dragged living room furniture onto the stage and brought our wives out and celebrated with our fans.”
