Danny Goldberg’s ‘Serving The Servant: Remembering Kurt Cobain’ Book To Be Released On April 2nd!

Danny Goldberg’s ‘Serving The Servant: Remembering Kurt Cobain’ Book To Be Released On April 2nd!

On the 25th anniversary of Kurt Cobain‘s death comes a new perspective on one of the most compelling icons of our time. With candor, honesty and empathy, Danny Goldberg, one of Nirvana’s managers from 1990 to 1994, shares his memories of his brief but momentous time with Kurt and the band in SERVING THE SERVANT: Remembering Kurt Cobain (Ecco; On sale April 2, 2019; $28.99, 304 pages; ISBN 978-0-06-286150-4). The result is a fresh and frank portrait of an icon unlike any that has come before.

When Goldberg agreed to take on Nirvana, he had no idea that Cobain would become a pop-culture icon with a legacy arguably at the level of that of John Lennon, Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley. Goldberg worked with Kurt from 1990 to 1994, the most impactful period of Kurt’s life.

This key time saw the stratospheric success of Nevermind, which turned Nirvana into the most successful rock band in the world and made punk and grunge household terms; Kurt’s meeting and marriage to the brilliant but mercurial Courtney Love and their relationship that became a lightning rod for critics; the birth of their daughter, Frances Bean; and, finally, Kurt’s public struggles with addiction, which ended in a devastating suicide that would alter the course of rock history. Throughout, Goldberg stood by Kurt’s side as manager and close friend.

Drawing on Goldberg’s own memories of Kurt, files that previously have not been made public, and interviews with, among others, Kurt’s close family (including Courtney Love), friends, and former bandmates (including Krist Novoselic), SERVING THE SERVANT sheds an entirely new light on these critical years. Casting aside the common obsession with the angst and depression that seemingly drove Kurt, SERVING THE SERVANT is an exploration of his brilliance in every aspect of rock and roll, his compassion, his ambition, and the legacy he wrought-one that has lasted decades longer than his career did. Goldberg also explores what it is about Kurt Cobain that still resonates today, even with a generation who wasn’t alive until after Kurt’s death.

“Insightful, passionate and clear-eyed, Danny Goldberg’s account of his personal and professional relationship with Kurt Cobain is required reading for not only Nirvana enthusiasts, but anyone interested in how the corporate music industry engaged with the punk rock underground of the early 1990s. While providing an intimate view of the support system the band had from a world their scene was historically at odds with, Goldberg shares what is essentially the story of two men, a generation apart, who became unexpected friends through a mutual appreciation of feminism, LGBT rights, and a dedication to the activist power of music. It is a contemplative requiem to losing someone you love who immeasurably touched the entire planet with a singular magic.” – Thurston Moore, Sonic Youth

“As soon as I started reading I got sucked in and I couldn’t put it down. As a huge Nirvana fan, it is petrifying to even attempt a description or enlightened comment about Kurt. I just want to say,
any music fan should want this book. Any Nirvana fan must have this book.” – Joan Jett

“There have been many portraits of Kurt Cobain, but none as warm and clear-eyed as this one. Danny Goldberg has always been one of my favorite observer/journalist/architects of popular culture. It’s no surprise that his deeply personal memoir does what Cobain’s best work does. It burrows in deep, and sticks around. Add this to the rich sonic legacy of Nirvana – Goldberg’s soulful account of Cobain as a close friend, gone way too soon, yet vividly alive on every page of this remarkable book. Bravo, Danny.” – Cameron Crowe

SOAKED IN BLEACH: Trailer And Poster Revealed For Controversial Kurt Cobain Documentary

SOAKED IN BLEACH: Trailer And Poster Revealed For Controversial Kurt Cobain Documentary

SOAKED IN BLEACH reveals the events behind Kurt Cobain’s death as seen through the eyes of Tom Grant, the private investigator that was hired by Courtney Love in 1994 to track down her missing husband (Kurt Cobain) only days before his deceased body was found at their Seattle home. Cobain’s death was ruled a suicide by the police (a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound), but doubts have circulated for twenty years as to the legitimacy of this ruling, especially due to the work of Mr. Grant, a former L.A. County Sheriff’s detective, who did his own investigation and determined there was significant empirical and circumstantial evidence to conclude that foul play could very well have occurred. The film develops as a narrative mystery with cinematic re-creations, interviews with key experts and witnesses and the examination of official artifacts from the 1994 case.

Directed by Benjamin Statler, ‘Soaked In Bleach’ hits theaters and Vimeo on Demand on June 11th, 2015.

Carrie Borzillo’s ‘Nirvana: In The Words of the People Who Were There’ To Receive April Release

Carrie Borzillo’s ‘Nirvana: In The Words of the People Who Were There’ To Receive April Release

nirvana-2014

Available April 1st

Carlton Books has announced the re-issue of author/journalist Carrie Borzillo’s first book, 2000’s Eyewitness Nirvana: The Day by Day Chronicles, with a new cover, title, and design as Nirvana: In The Words of the People Who Were There on April 1, 2014 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of Kurt Cobain.

The reissued book, which comes in a new 5.5 x 8-inch format, is available everywhere books are sold, including Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. Borzillo is also selling a limited number of signed copies direct to the fans via her official website, http://carrieborzillo.com/books.html for $35 (U.S.) and $45 (International), including free shipping. A percentage of each autographed book purchased direct from the author will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org).

“We lost one of the greatest artists of our generation when Kurt Cobain took his life on April 5, 1994 and it’s a sadness that I still deeply feel today. I have very strong feelings about suicide and mental health issues and wanted to do a small part to give back by donating a percentage of the books I sign and sell to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention,” says Borzillo.

Nirvana: In The Words of the People Who Were There is as near as possible to a day-to-day account of every significant band event, from its inception right through Kurt Cobain’s early tragic death on April 5, 1994. Seeking to separate fact from fiction and clear up some of the myths and untruths that have grown up around the band, the book features more than 50 first-hand accounts, memories and anecdotes of every important moment in Nirvana’s career. The book includes Borzillo’s own recount of covering the news of Cobain’s death and the public vigil in Seattle in April 1994.

Originally released in 2000 as Eyewitness Nirvana: The Day by Day Chronicle, the book has since been released by multiple publishers in a multitude of formats, titles, countries, and languages, including Italian, German, and Spanish. Along with the newest version, Nirvana: In The Words of the People Who Were There, out on April 1, other recent re-issues include the Spanish-language version, Kurt Cobain: La Historia de Nirvana, released on March 18, 2014 by Libros Cúpula and Kurt Cobain: The Nirvana Years, released in October 2013 via Carlton Books. The only truly updated version of the book, however, is the 2003 reissue as Nirvana: The Day to Day Illustrated Journals, which featured more photos and captions and came in the coffee-table size.

She has recently been quoted in similar stories in the New York Daily News and Loaded UK magazine. She will appear on a Nirvana-themed episode of the Suicide Girls Radio podcast on April 3 at http://suicidegirlsblog.com.  Additionally, Carrie will also post a first-person blog about her experience covering Kurt Cobain’s death for Billboard magazine in Seattle on April 8-10, 1994, featuring some never-before-seen photos. The blog will appear on SuicideGirlsBlog.com on April 8, 2014 – the 20th anniversary of when Kurt Cobain’s body was found dead.

Author Bio: Carrie Borzillo is an award-winning music and entertainment journalist and critically acclaimed author. As an author, she has three books under her belt: Eyewitness Nirvana: The Day by Day Chronicle (Carlton Books, 2000 and its subsequent re-issues), Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Better Flirt, a Tougher Chick, and a Hotter Girlfriend, and to Living Life Like a Rock Star (Simon Spotlight Entertainment, 2008), and Tera Patrick’s Sinner Takes All: A Memoir of Love & Porn (Gotham/Penguin, 2010). As a journalist, her work has appeared in dozens of media outlets, including Billboard, E! Online, Entertainment Weekly, People, Spin, and others. As a content manager, she has worked for JulianneHough.com, American Idol, and The X Factor. Carrie is currently working on her yet-unannounced fourth new book. Borzillo hails from Wallingford, Connecticut and resides in the L.A. neighborhood of Eagle Rock.

Foo Fighters Add Additional Arena Dates To North American Tour

Foo Fighters Add Additional Arena Dates To North American Tour

In the wake of the continuing success of the worldwide #1 album Wasting Light (Roswell/RCA) and the June 14 DVD and Blu-Ray (exclusive at Best Buy through July 12) release of the feature-length documentary Foo Fighters: Back And Forth (Spitfire/Roswell/RCA), Foo Fighters have added another leg of dates to their North American arena tour.

Pre-sales for this next run of headline shows–which will run from October 9th in Denver CO through October 28th in Edmonton and also include a November 14th Newark NJ date–will begin 10 a.m. local time June 15th.

General on sales follow 10 a.m. local time June 17th.

Special guests for the October dates include Cage The Elephant and Mariachi el Bronx.

The October and November dates are the latest additions to a juggernaut of a worldwide campaign that currently has the band headlining European festivals, as well a sold out 130,000-capacity July 2-3 headline weekender at the UK’s Milton Keynes Bowl. In addition, Foo Fighters were recently announced as a Lollapalooza 2011 headliner.

The ever-expanding tour rides the relentless momentum of Foo Fighters’ recently released seventh album Wasting Light, certified gold less than two months after debuting at #1 in a dozen countries. Wasting Light has also generated arguably the best critical notices of the band’s 16-year career.

The newly released Foo Fighters: Back And Forth documentary, directed by Oscar winner James Moll, has done likewise, with a just-out four-star ROLLING STONE review raving “a classic rockumentary arc… Dave Grohl has lived an extraordinarily cinematic life.”

Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear will be playing hits spanning the Foo Fighters’ catalogue of multi-platinum arena anthems, including new staples such as the 13-week Modern Rock #1 “Rope” and “Walk,” the band’s latest single and subject of the brilliant Sam Jones-directed parody of the classic crime drama Falling Down. Already a viral sensation, the “Walk” clip has been viewed more than a million times since its June 2 premiere.

More dates will be announced as they are confirmed. For a complete list of current Foo Fighters tour dates and ticketing info visit http://tour.foofighters.com.

Foo Fighters Announce U.S. Dates For Fall 2011 Tour

Foo Fighters Announce U.S. Dates For Fall 2011 Tour

Foo Fighters have confirmed the next run of shows in their ongoing American arena headline run in support of the worldwide #1 album Wasting Light (Roswell/RCA). Pre-sales for this leg, which kicks off September 14 in St. Paul MN and runs through September 26 in East Rutherford NJ, will begin May 18. General on sales follow May 20 with the exception of St. Paul and Columbus which go on sale to the public June 4.

Rise Against and Mariachi el Bronx will be support for the U.S. run.

The September dates expand on the recently announced midwest headline dates beginning May 17 in Tulsa OK and concluding May 26 in Missoula MT. Motorhead and Biffy Clyro provide support on that run, during which the Foos will also drop in for headlining appearances at the Hangout and Sasquatch festivals. In addition Foo Fighters have also announced a pair of Canadian dates, August 9 in Toronto and August 10 in Montreal, which go on sale May 20 and 21 respectively. Doughboys and F—ed Up will support on both Canadian shows.

The tour follows in the wake of Foo Fighters’ just -released seventh album Wasting Light, which is still riding high on the charts after debuting at #1 in a dozen countries. Wasting Light has also generated arguably the best critical notices of the band’s 16-year career, including four star lead reviews from Rolling Stone and People, and an A- lead review from Entertainment Weekly that summed up “Here’s the miracle, though: Foo Fighters never feel like a backward-looking band. Light is a muscular rock & roll throwdown, featuring the Foos delivering exactly the kind of catchy, pummeling anthems they’re known for, with total disregard for the whims of the masses.”

More dates will be announced as they are confirmed. For a complete list of current Foo Fighters North American tour dates and ticketing info visit the tour website.
