Dave Stewart’s ‘Sweet Dreams of This: A Life In Music’ Book To Be Released In February 2016

"Sweet Dreams of This: A Life In Music"

“Sweet Dreams of This: A Life In Music”

New American Library (NAL), an imprint of Penguin Random House, announced today the publication of a new memoir by Dave Stewart, co-founder of the groundbreaking pop-rock duo Eurythmics.  NAL Executive Editor Jennifer Schuster acquired World Rights to the book.  NAL will publish the book in hardcover on February 9, 2016 with a foreword by Mick Jagger.

In a memoir by turns intimate, wild, reflective, and revelatory, the prolific performer, songwriter, and producer best known for the international hit “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” looks back on a career that has spanned three decades and more than 100 million album sales. SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF THIS: A Life in Music is the only memoir published by a member of Eurythmics and includes never-before-seen photos.

Says Stewart, “It has been a mind-blowing experience looking back on all of these adventures and wondering how I managed to survive a lot of them.  Just writing about the wild things that happened to me back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s was exhausting.  Mind you not much has changed!  I must have taken a busy pill somewhere along the ride.”

With a songwriter’s rhythmic grace, a performer’s sense of adventure, and a producer’s astute sense of perspective, Stewart opens up about his little-known five-year relationship with Annie Lennox before Eurythmics;  their development into one of music’s most successful and long-lasting creative partnerships; and the story behind their numerous worldwide smash hits including “Here Comes the Rain Again,” “Would I Lie to You,” “Missionary Man,” and the evergreen “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).”  Stewart’s adventures outside Eurythmics are no less epic: he recalls here collaborating, recording, and creating havoc with legends like Bono, Mick Jagger, Tom Petty, and Stevie Nicks, as well as relative newcomers like Katy Perry and Joss Stone.  These partnerships generated not just amazing music-including Tom Petty’s “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” No Doubt’s “Underneath It All,” and Mick Jagger’s “Old Habits Die Hard”-but also amazing and amusing stories.  Stewart recounts high-octane adventures with Nicks, Daryl Hall, and Bob Dylan, among others, sharing his life in candid detail: from signing with Elton John’s label in the 1970’s and failing spectacularly; to the mind-bending experience of touring the world as one of the biggest pop stars alive in the 1980’s; and all the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll along the way.  Throughout, Stewart paints an atmospheric portrait of a golden age in music.

What emerges in SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF THIS is a compelling profile of a brilliant creative mind and a voyeuristic peek into the frenetic but never boring life of a “musician’s musician” (Rolling Stone).  Stewart’s anecdotes reveal how a musical genius parlayed his creative talents into cutting-edge business ventures; and how an 80’s frontman who shocked the world with a crazy new sound matured into a global innovator, a powerful behind-the-scenes force in the music business, and one of its most enterprising and respected artists.

Adds NAL’s SVP, Publisher Kara Welsh: “Sweet Dreams Are Made of This is a rollicking ride through the 80’s: a colorful story that only a creative genius and true rock ‘n’ roller like Dave could have lived-and then retold-with such joy and energy.”

Beyond his creative work as a musician, Stewart has many successful and wide-ranging endeavors.  He introduced innovative thinking and game-changing fundraising methods to Nelson Mandela, and founded new ventures, including First Artist Bank, an artist-centered bank serving the global creative community, and The Hospital Club, a sanctuary for artists and technologists to collaborate.  Stewart created and is co-executive producer of NBC’s Songland, an upcoming competition show for songwriters.  He is also an investor and Creative Director for the creative social network Talent House.

Legendary rockers THE ROLLING STONES, who rocked London and New York in 2012, announced today that they will kick off their 50 And Counting tour in Los Angeles at the Staples Center (date TBA pending NBA/NHL playoff schedules.) The tour debut will be followed by performances in Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, Anaheim, Toronto, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia. The band will also return to London’s Hyde Park on July 6th, almost 44 years to the day of their first show at the Royal Park.

50 And Counting continues the exhilarating celebration of the band’s first 50 years – five decades of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood bringing their iconic music and ground-breaking stage shows to audiences around the globe.

The Rolling Stones were recently crowned the ‘Best Live Band’ at the NME Awards in London, and over the past 12 months have thrilled fans with their release of a greatest hits collection, GRRR!, a groundbreaking documentary film Crossfire Hurricane, a photographic book Rolling Stones: 50, and have taken the stage by storm for their first live shows in many years. The tour is the band’s highly anticipated return to the stage.

“50 And Counting has been pretty amazing so far,” said Jagger. “We did a few shows in London and New York last year… and had such a good time that we thought… let’s do some more. It’s a good show. Lots of the classic stuff everyone wants to hear… with a few little gems tucked in here and there. The stage is shaped like lips and goes off into the venue so I get to run around in the crowd. It’s great fun to be able to get that close to the audience.”

“From day one at rehearsals it sounded so fresh. You could tell that everybody was dying to get their teeth into it. It was like… open the gates… let us out!” said Richards. “Cause man, it is the life and blood of us to play in front of people.”

Tickets for Oakland, San Jose, Toronto and Chicago go on sale beginning Monday, April 8th at 10 AM local time and will be available at Rollingstones.com.

Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning April 5th at 10 AM local time through Citi’s Private Pass Program. For complete presale details visit Citiprivatepass.com.

Mick Taylor, who was a member of the Rolling Stones from 1969-74, will be a special guest throughout the tour.

The band will treat their generations of fans to an evening of classic Stones hits like ‘Gimme Shelter’, ‘Paint It Black’, ‘Jumping Jack Flash’, ‘Tumbling Dice’, and ‘It’s Only Rock and Roll’, curated with lesser known gems, and a cover or two.

The stage design for the tour is based on the band’s ubiquitous tongue and lips logo, which extends out into the crowd, allowing the Stones to interact directly with their audience. The Rolling Stones Unleash ‘Stones In Exile’ On DVD

The Rolling Stones Unleash ‘Stones In Exile’ On DVD

Eagle Vision ‘the wholly-owned subsidiary of Eagle Rock Entertainment’ is proud to announce the release of Stones In Exile, a compelling hour long documentary look at the recording of what many rock historians call the greatest album in history: 1972’s Exile On Main Street. The packaging comes complete with 90 minutes of behind-the-scenes bonus footage.

There has been, over the years, a veritable mountain of debate, conjecture, written words and mythologizing about this most classic album. It has been the subject of books, of rumors, of innuendo, of stories that have only added to the Stones’ legend. Now, for the first time, one can step back in time to the spring of 1971 and enter the villa called Nellcote at Villefranche-sur-Mer in the South of France where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor created and recorded this most classic of albums in the most chaotic of circumstances.

The footage is extraordinary. It includes interviews with all five Stones as well as sections of the long-dormant notorious Cocksucker Blues movie, which every fan has talked about, wondered about, but few have actually seen. Other key cinematic moments have Mick and Charlie returning to Olympic Studios where some of the early Exile work was laid down, as well as Mick’s country estate, Stargroves.

There’s also a star-studded list of contributors to this film who share their most intimate remembrances: Martin Scorsese, Anita Pallenberg, producer Jimmy Miller, engineer Andy Johns, photographer Dominique Tarlé, legendary sax man Bobby Keys and many others.
