‘Saving Banksy’ To Hit Theaters On January 13th — Extended Trailer Released!

‘Saving Banksy’ To Hit Theaters On January 13th — Extended Trailer Released!

In theaters on January 13th, 2017!

Saving Banksy is the true story of one misguided art collector’s attempt to save a painting by infamous British street artist Banksy from destruction and the auction block. It asks the question, ‘What would you do if you woke up one morning and found a million dollar Banksy spray-painted on the side of your building?’

Banksy has created some of the world’s most iconic street art. His work is deemed illegal by authorities, but at auction, Banksy street-paintings sell for hundreds-of-thousands of dollars. While his work is created for the public, Banksy paintings are being removed by art dealers and resold at auction for huge profits, and the artist receives nothing. The movie is a rare and revealing look at the secretive world of street art and graffiti and its new found value and worth in the traditional art world.

“The importance of ‘Saving Banksy’ is the dialogue of preserving versus stealing one’s art. I hope people take away the overarching theme of the film.  Artists as a whole including musicians and filmmakers all have their art stolen on a daily basis,” said graffiti artist Kelly ‘Risk’ Graval. “This is the bigger discussion that needs to be recognized by all. If people do the crime whether it be stealing intellectually or physically it’s all the same and the consequences should be treated accordingly.”The tagline for the film reads “It’s not art unless you can sell it for lots of Money” and the movie is meant to be thought-provoking and controversial.

Producer Kevin Zinger stated: “As Andy Warhol said, ‘Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.’ This film explores deeper conversations that need to be had about street art and how it’s preserved and who profits from it. The artists in the film are the next generation of Warhols and the medium they use is often not only public, but also illegal. The film sparks a conversation about legality, artists’ rights, artistic boundaries, public works and who profits from them and if they should or should not be preserved for future generations to enjoy.”

MoviePilot.com describes Saving Banksy as “The Anti-Capitalist Battle Cry The Art World Needs.”

Saving Banksy was directed by Colin M. Day with narration by Paul Polycarpou, and features interviews with top street and graffiti artists from across the globe, including Ben Eine, Risk, Revok, Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman, Blek Le Rat, Anthony Lister, Doze Green, Hera and Glen E Friedman. Director Colin M. Day’s documentary feature film Saving Banksy produced by 2:32 AM Projects and Regime is set for theatrical release on January 13th, 2017 in select theatres across the United States in conjunction with Parade Deck Films and Candy Factory Films.

An extended trailer for the film has been released online at https://youtu.be/ztHKstXFlj8 ahead of the film’s theatrical release.

Rihanna Unveils Artwork For 8th Studio Album “Anti”

Rihanna Unveils Artwork For 8th Studio Album “Anti”

rihanna-anti-2015-albumart

In a recent exhibition at the MAMA Gallery, Rihanna and contemporary artist Roy Nachum have unveiled seven original oil paintings that will be used as the official artwork for her forthcoming eighth studio album titled ANTI.  Included in these seven paintings is the album cover, which depicts a young girl with a gold crown covering her eyes, and a black balloon strung tightly to her wrist, painted in multiple, intersecting views.  The back cover features an oil painting of the same young girl seen from behind.  Both paintings are cleverly inscribed with sculpted Braille poetry by Chloe Mitchel that spreads between the front and the back cover of the album.  Additional paintings featured as inside album artwork include poetry sculpted in Braille by Roy Nachum.  This is the first time an album has ever incorporated physical Braille.  The Braille inscription will also allow people who are blind to experience an entire album by touch.

Full descriptions for all paintings are listed below.

Poet: Chloe Mitchell

I sometimes fear that I am misunderstood.

It is simply because what I want to say,

what I need to say, won’t be heard.

Heard in a way I so rightfully deserve.

What I choose to say is of so much substance

That people just won’t understand the depth of my message.

So my voice is not my weakness,

It is the opposite of what others are afraid of.

My voice is my suit and armor,

My shield, and all that I am.

I will comfortably breath in it, until I find the moment to be silent.

I live loudly in my mind, so many hours of the day.

The world is pin drop sound compared to the boom

That thumps and bumps against the walls of my cranium.

I live it and love it and despise it and I am entrapped in it.

So being misunderstood, I am not offended by the gesture, but honored.

If they let us…

Cover Artwork Unveiled for Upcoming Heavy Metal Art Book “…And Justice For Art.”

Cover Artwork Unveiled for Upcoming Heavy Metal Art Book “…And Justice For Art.”

"...And Justice For Art."

“…And Justice For Art.”

Veteran Metal/Rock journalist, Ramón ‘Oscuro’ Martos (MetalUnderground.com/THIS METAL Magazine/ PureGrainAudio.com) just unveiled the cover artwork for his upcoming revelatory book …And Justice For Art: Stories About Heavy Metal Album Covers

This one-of-a-kind collection of stories recounts all the particulars behind the making of artworks as iconic as Slayer‘s “Reign In Blood,”Morbid Angel‘s “Blessed Are The Sick,” Metallica‘s “And Justice For All,” Black Sabbath’s “13,” Death‘s “Symbolic,” Carcass“Heartwork,” Cormorant‘s “Dwellings,” Mayhem’s “Grand Declaration Of War,” Testament’s “Dark Roots Of Earth,” Opeth’s “Heritage” and  many others.

These are told through 100 exclusive interviews with heavy music’s icons like Jeff Walker (Carcass), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura), Fenriz (Darkthrone), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), Chris Adler (Lamb Of God), David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) among many others.  In addition, it features plenty of revealing commentaries by critically-acclaimed illustrators such as Michael Whelan, Eliran Kantor, Dan Seagrave, Joe Petagno, Arik Roper and Travis Smith, just to name a few.

“Working on the And Justice for Art book was an amazing experience,” comments the artwork’s creator American illustrator,Vertebrae33—who has previously collaborated with artists like SlayerSlash and Soundgarden“Ramon Oscuro Martos has an unbridled love of Metal art as well as a tremendous amount of passion and vision for his project. As an illustrator, there is nothing better than a vision realized and the satisfaction of the client. I am excited to see Ramon’s project come to fruition!”

Obviously impressed by the imposing artwork, Martos comments:  “Today’s Metal scene is overflowed with illustrators and visual artists; however, just a few posses the ability to create distinctive images, rich in detail, colors, and conceptual depth… That’s the case with Vertebrae33. Since the very beginning he was able to understand that And Justice For Art’s cover needed to be iconic and conceptually related to both Metal and Arts. I believe this book will coherently provide fans with plenty of first-hand information regarding to the creation of many iconic Metal album covers. The artwork created by Vertebrae33 perfectly introduces the reader to that world where music and visuals become one.”

Martos is now running an Indiegogo campaign to fund the printing and distribution of this book that, according to Morbid Angel’s frontman, David Vincent (who wrote the foreword), has all the potential to become “a historical document about the importance of Metal album covers.”

Obituary’s drummer, Don Tardy declared, “I think this is an important book and will help to keep alive all these artworks.”

Cattle Decapitation’s infamous frontman, Travis Ryan, commented that the volume is “exactly what the music world needs to remind us all just how important album covers have been to all of us that grew up surrounding ourselves with physical media.”
