BILLY IDOL: Rock Icon Premieres New Music Video for “Save Me Now”

BILLY IDOL: Rock Icon Premieres New Music Video for “Save Me Now”

Billy Idol

Billy Idol

BILLY IDOL builds on the urgency of his last single “Can’t Break Me Down” with a dramatic and mysterious video which premiered today (5/12) via Billboard.com; check it out HERE.  The new video is set to “Save Me Now,” an electro-rocking highlight co-written by IdolTwin Shadow, and Greg Kurstin, from IDOL’s acclaimed current album KINGS & QUEENS OF THE UNDERGROUND.

Known for his striking and compelling videos, the multi-platinum British rock iconheaded to the California desert with his longtime guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens to film the video that was directed and conceived by Thomas Kirk (who has worked with Muse on multiple videos).

The clip follows a priest and a police officer on a wild ride set against the stark, desolate California landscape, accompanied by a leading lady entwined in the drama. In describing the video, Kirk said:  “I went for a concept which very much took the lyrics of ‘Save Me Now’ and turned them into a surreal story that I felt was as true to the very visual lyrics as possible. I loved the image of a bruised cop and a priest trapped inside a car.”

Meanwhile, IDOL continues on his “Kings & Queens Of The Underground Live” 2014-2015 world tour with North American dates wrapping June 4, followed by another run of shows in Europe this summer.  IDOL will return to the U.S. from August-October for a mix of solo shows and festival appearances.

KINGS & QUEENS OF THE UNDERGROUND–IDOL’s first studio album in almost a decade–was released in October 2014 on BFI Records via Kobalt Label Services.  The album was primarily produced by Trevor Horn, with Greg Kurstin also contributing as producer to two songs, including “Can’t Break Me Down.” Upon the album’s release, USA Today named “Can’t Break Me Down” their song of the week, declaring “with its punkish drive, sneering vocals and roaring Steve Stevens guitar, Can’t Break Me Down could have made a great follow-up to latter-day Idol hits.

 About Billy Idol:

From punk pioneer to global superstar, William Michael Albert Broad, aka BILLY IDOL, has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. IDOL is currently set to kick off a North American tour in January 2015 following the successful October 21 release of Kings & Queens of the Underground, his first album of new material in nearly a decade. IDOL‘s autobiography DANCING WITH MYSELF (also released in October) entered the New York Times bestseller list at #13.His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend.  Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, IDOL spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement.  As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, IDOL was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, IDOL hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged. IDOL created some of rock’s most enduring anthems including “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself,” “Flesh For Fantasy,” “Hot In the City,” “Eyes Without A Face,” “Rebel Yell,” and “Cradle of Love,” among others.  BILLY IDOL is the original punk rocker who found a way to take that sneering punk attitude into the pop and rock mainstream, carving out songs that have lasted a lifetime.  For all the latest BILLY IDOL updates and information, visit BillyIdol.net.

MTV To Premiere Acclaimed ‘Rebel Music’ Series This Week

MTV To Premiere Acclaimed ‘Rebel Music’ Series This Week

Rebel Music

Rebel Music

According to United States and Canadian censuses, there are over 6.2 million people who identify as Native American or First Nation Canadian. In spite of the fact that they make up only 2 percent of the population, Native North Americans experience alarming rates of suicide (over 4 times the national average), are 2.5 times more likely to be the victims of sexual violence and often suffer adverse health effects from environmental disasters. For the first time, the untold stories behind these statistics will be brought to life in the documentary film Rebel Music: Native America.

In November, Native American Heritage Month, the stories of Frank Waln, Inez Jasper, Nataanii Means and Mike Clifford, young Native American activists and musicians, will be at the center ofRebel Music: Native America, an introduction to a side of Native America rarely seen. The film showcases the four as they draw from their heritage, using art to expose and overcome issues affecting their communities, environment and selves.

In a first for MTV, the nearly 30-minute premiere episode of Rebel Music‘s second season will debut exclusively on the brand’s Facebook page on ThursdayNovember 13 at 4:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT. The premiere will be followed by airings on mtvUMTV2Centric, Epix 2 and Epix.com. It will also debut for free on leading digital download and streaming platform partners including iTunes, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, Verizon Flexview, and Xbox Video.

“We are proud to be able to articulate one of the great untold stories of America with the support of the Native American community,” said Nusrat Durrani, SVP of Viacom Media Networks, GM of MTV World and the creator of the Rebel Music series. “Viewers in the U.S. and beyond will be surprised and moved by the young artists in this film who are taking charge of their destiny and creating a new narrative for their people.”

Rebel Music: Native America is one of a six-part series of documentary films about youth, music and global social change, focused on youth protest movements in the most challenging and turbulent parts of the world. The five subsequent episodes will be released in the spring of 2015 and build onRebel Music‘s first season, which debuted on mtvUMTV‘s 24-hour college channel, and is now available to own on iTunes and stream on Netflix. The second season will feature stories from Iran, Myanmar, Senegal, Turkey, and Venezuela.

Rebel Music: Native America is co-directed by Native American filmmaker Billy Luther, whose work has debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. The second season is being executive produced and developed by Nusrat Durrani, SVP of Viacom Media Networks and GM of MTV World; David Sable, Global CEO, Y&R and chairman of the NY Philanthropic Advisory Board of UNICEF, activist and acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey whose renowned street-inspired vision helped create the visual identity of the series, including a new second season poster. The incredibly talented punk singer-songwriter Laura Jane Grace of the band Against Me! – who TIME Magazine recently called “the most visible transgender woman in music today” – performs the theme song and serves as Music Director for the second season.

“Viacom has long been a pioneer in shining a light on those who have been made to feel invisible,” said Carl Folta, Viacom Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility. “Rebel Music: Native America continues that tradition by highlighting the resilience of an undiscussed and marginalized people. We hope the film will inspire audiences and empower them to act.”

“We’re so excited and proud to launch Rebel Music: Native America on MTV‘s Facebook page, bringing poignant, original long-form content directly to our largest social community,” said Tom Fishman, Vice President of Content Marketing and Fan Engagement for MTV. “We look forward to a rich and timely social conversation ensuing as we both celebrate and reflect on Native American Heritage month.”

Rebel Music: Native America features musician/activists:

Frank Waln: A passionate and provocative Sicangu Lakota hip-hop artist who uses his music and activism to fight against the destruction of the environment and cultural heritage.

Inez Jasper: An award winning pop music powerhouse who uses her platform as a public figure to shed light on the epidemic of missing and murdered Native women.

Nataanii Means: A budding activist and passionate hip-hop artist (and son of American Indian Movement luminary Russell Means), who uses his music to fight against the spread of suicide on Native reservations.

Mike Clifford: A Pine Ridge Reservation rapper who works with Nataanii to inspire Native youth with his message of perseverance and resistance.

“It’s amazing how sensitized we are to wrongs around the world, ignoring the injustices perpetrated right under our noses here at home,” said Billy Luther (Navajo/Hopi/Laguna Pueblo), co-director of Rebel Music: Native America. “It was an honor to help bring attention to Native American and Indigenous issues in the first episode of the new season of Rebel Music. Instead of dwelling on victimization it was so exciting to focus instead on young voices singing out and busy being the change that we all want to see happen.”

As part of Rebel Music‘s RebelED, episodes from the second season will be accompanied by lesson plans with a teacher’s guide and background history to bring these topics into the classroom. The materials will be available for free download at www.rebelmusic.com/edu. In partnership with Viacommunity, the umbrella for Viacom’s social efforts, lesson plans will be distributed to 2,000 schools across the country through the Get Schooled Foundation, a national non-profit dedicated to increasing high school graduation and college attendance rates, founded by Viacom in partnership with the Gates Foundation.

Following the Rebel Music: Native America episode, viewers will be guided to a custom resources atwww.lookdifferent.org that will shine a light on issues impacting the Indigenous community and provide ways for individuals to take action. The resources represent another step in MTV‘s multi-year, anti-bias “Look Different” campaign that works to engage young people to recognize and challenge hidden biases that exist around us all.

Beginning in November, each new episode, plus extended interviews, articles, opinion pieces, music videos, and additional content will be available at http://www.RebelMusic.com.

The concert will be held in the Hollywood Forever’s Masonic Lodge and broadcast outside to the overflow crowd.

Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live) will also be appearing at the tribute and will bring along his punk rock alter ego, Ian Rubbish, to the festivities.

Metallica guitarist Kirk “Von” Hammett’s special collection of horror movie memorabilia will also be on hand for fans to check out. Rarely seen in public, the collection includes a treasure trove of movie posters, props, toys and costumes from his personal collection.

There will also be an autograph signing session featuring the cult stars from Rob Zombie’s “The Devil’s Rejects.”

Cited by both Time and Rolling Stone magazines as one of the most influential guitarists ever, the JOHNNY RAMONE TRIBUTE brings family, friends and fans together to celebrate the late punk guitarist’s music and legacy with Q&A sessions, screenings of Johnny’s favorite movies and musical guests. Past participants have included Tommy Ramone, Johnny Depp, Rob Zombie, Lisa Marie Presley, Priscilla Presley, Chris Cornell, Nick Cage, Kirk Hammett, Steve Jones, Rose McGowan, Henry Rollins, John Waters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shepard Fairey, Dita Von Teese and Billy Zoom, among many others.

Antonino D’Ambrosio’s ‘Let Fury Have The Hour’ To Receive December Release

Antonino D’Ambrosio’s ‘Let Fury Have The Hour’ To Receive December Release

If you are into documentary filmmaking, than ‘Let Fury Have The Hour’ is a film that should peak your interest. From director Antonino D’Ambrosio, the film is a charged journey into the heart of the creative counter-culture. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and features interviews with over 50 powerful, of-the-moment voices including street artist Shepard Fairey, comedian Lewis Black, musicians Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) and Chuck D (Public Enemy), and filmmaker John Sayles. CAVU Pictures is releasing LET FURY HAVE THE HOUR in select theaters starting Friday, Dec 14th. Check out the official synopsis below and visit the official website at www.letfuryhavethehour.com.

Official Synopsis: Rough, raw and unapologetically inspirational, LET FURY HAVE THE HOUR is a charged journey into the heart of the creative counter-culture in 2012. In a time of global challenges, big questions and by-the-numbers politics, this upbeat, outspoken film tracks the story of the artists, writers, thinkers and musicians who have gone underground to re-imagine the world – honing in on equality, community and engaged creativity – in exuberantly paradigm-busting ways.

Writer/director Antonino D’Ambrosio unites 50 powerful, of-the-moment voices –from street artist Shepard Fairey to rapper Chuck D to playwright Eve Ensler to musicians Tom Morello and Billy Bragg to novelist Edwidge Danticat to filmmaker John Sayles to comic Lewis Black – who share personal and powerful tales of how they transformed anger and angst into provocative art and ideas. Mix-mastered with historical footage, animation and performances, D’Ambrosio presents a visceral portrait of a generation looking to re-jigger a system that has failed to address the most pressing problems of our times . . . or human potential.
