EVERYBODY WANTS SOME: Warner Bros. Records To Release Soundtrack for New Richard Linklater Film

EVERYBODY WANTS SOME: Warner Bros. Records To Release Soundtrack for New Richard Linklater Film

everybody-wants-some-2016

Warner Bros. Records will release the soundtrack to the upcoming feature film Everybody Wants Some on April 8th The Paramount Pictures and Annapurna Pictures film is directed by Academy Award®-nominated director Richard Linklater (BoyhoodSchool of RockDazed and Confused) and will hit theatres beginning April 1st.

A “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused set in the world of 1980s college life, Everybody Wants Some is a comedy that follows a group of friends as they navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood. Appropriately, the soundtrack features some of Linklater’s favorite songs from the ’80s, including hits from Van HalenThe KnackBlondie, and The Cars, among many others.

“The Everybody Wants Some soundtrack tries to capture the amazing diversity of what was on the table musically at that time,” Linklater says. “So many artists were at the top of their game, and it seemed like a lot of popular genres were viable. Metal and R&B were as big as ever, disco was still hanging in there (although it would be ‘dead’ within a year or so), and, thanks to the movie Urban Cowboy, country was suddenly cool in places it hadn’t been before. Even more exciting was the immediacy of punk and new wave, and the first examples of this thing you’d eventually know as hip-hop. Over the years some of this has been parodied and made to look ridiculous, but this movie is asking you to experience it as if for the first time — from those opening drum beats of ‘My Sharona’ to the utter newness of ‘Rapper’s Delight.’”

The Everybody Wants Some soundtrack is available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon as of today. Those who pre-order will receive an instant download of Van Halen’s “Everybody Wants Some!!.”

The soundtrack will be released as a digital download, physical CD, and cassette, as well as on double LP vinyl, which will feature additional tracks. Please see below for the full track-listings.

Everybody Wants Some stars Will Brittain, Zoey Deutch, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Blake Jenner, J. Quinton Johnson, Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell. The film is written and directed by Richard Linklater. Produced by Megan Ellison, Ginger Sledge and Richard Linklater.

Gerard Way To Kick Off First Solo U.S. Tour In October

Gerard Way To Kick Off First Solo U.S. Tour In October

Gerard Way

Gerard Way

Fresh off his weekend performances at the Reading and Leeds festivals in England, former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has announced that he will hit the road for a string of U.S. tour dates in October performing songs from his upcoming solo debut album, Hesitant Alien, which will be released on September 30th by Warner Bros. Records. Rolling Stone remarked of the eight songs from Hesitant Alien that Way revealed during his Reading Festival set: “snappy, catchy songs delivered with arty panache.” Way will also perform four shows in Australia for the Soundwave Festival in February 2015. Tickets for the U.S. dates go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27. For ticketing and on sale information, click HERE.

Hesitant Alien is now available for pre-order from all digital retailers. Exclusive album bundles are also available for pre-order at GerardWay.com. Those who pre-order the album will receive the track “No Shows” instantly as a free download. Watch the music video for “No Shows” HERE.

Working with producer Doug McKean, Way knew immediately what he wanted Hesitant Alien to sound like. “I wanted to make the small things sound big,” he says. “My intention was to make 100 percent uncompromised art, using the currently least radio-friendly instrument, the guitar. I knew there would be lots of fuzz pedals. I knew I would play Fender instruments. I knew I would look at who my guitar heroes were in art school, Mary Timony and Carrie Brownstein, and I drew a lot of influence from shoe-gaze and Britpop. I want the record to sonically galvanize people.” Hesitant Alien was mixed by Tchad Blake (Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys).

Lyrically, Way wrote about what he knew at the time, “which was struggle, beginnings, finding a newness in the mundane and the abstract,” he says. “I looked to the Britpop poets like Jarvis Cocker and Damon Albarn, drawing upon everyday life. I also experimented with the abstract, and looked at Frank Black’s work both with the Pixies, and as a solo artist. There was no concept and no call-to-arms.”
