Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation are finally preparing to tackle the long awaited ‘Smurfs’ movie. Raja Gosnell, who has directed such flicks as ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ and ‘Scooby-Doo’ to direct the film. The film will be taking a live-action, mixed with animation style similar to what moviegoers saw in ‘Alvin and The Chipmunks’.
The story is based on the legendary blue characters created by Pierre Culliford, more famously known as Peyo. The Smurfs were a true pop culture phenomenon in the 80s and spawned massive merchandising.
Can lightning strike twice? We will see when the film hits theaters in December of 2010.
