The Green Hornet has found a sidekick as Taiwanese singer-actor Jay Chou has joined the cast of Columbia’s big screen adaptation of “The Green Hornet.” Chou will star opposite Seth Rogen as “Kato”, the role originally made famous by the legendary Bruce Lee in the 1966-67 TV series.
The announcement came from Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures.
Michel Gondry, the film’s director, added, “Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great.”
On his role in the film, Chou said, “It’s an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won’t try to be Bruce Lee’s Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it’s a dream role, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Variety reports that the studio’s in early talks with Nicolas Cage to play the gangster villain in “The Green Hornet” and Cameron Diaz is negotiating to play a reporter and love interest.
