“The Oprah Winfrey Show” will end its run on Sept. 9, 2011 after an epic 25 year run. Winfrey broke the news to staffers at her Chicago-based Harpo production company on Thursday (11/19) and will officially announce the news on Friday’s episode of her show.
Speculation of her departure from daytime TV has grown stronger since the January 2008 announcement that she and Discovery Networks planned to partner on a cable network: OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.
The cable network’s debut, originally set for 2009, has been delayed numerous times but is expected to hit the airwaves in 2010. The new channel will take the place of what is now Discovery Health, available in 70 million homes from the start.
