Michael Fassbender has officially been chosen to star as Magento in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming X-Men: First Class film.
Fassbender will star opposite James McAvoy, who has previously signed to play Charles Xavier aka Professor X, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Fassbender’s recent on screen exploits include roles in Jonah Hex, Inglourious Basterds and 300. The young actor will next appear in Neil Marshall‘s highly anticipated film, Centurion, which hits screens in limited release on August 27th, 2010.
The film will chart the epic beginning of the “X-Men” saga and follow Xavier and Magneto, who turn from being close friends and allies, into bitter enemies. X-Men: First Class is currently set to explode onto screens on June 3, 2011.
