Legendary New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner died last night after suffering a “massive” heart attack.

According to multiple reports, Steinbrenner was rushed to St. Joseph’s hospital in Tampa where he was later pronounced dead. Steinbrenner had just celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4. The Tampa Tribune reports that emergency crews responded at Steinbrenner’s home last night and took him to a hospital.

After Steinbrenner took over the team in 1973, the Yankees locked up 11 pennants and 7 World Series titles. Steinbrenner retired from running the Yankees in 2006, leaving his sons Hank and Hal to run the team. Steinbrenner is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Joan Zieg, and their four children — Hank, Hal, Jessica and Jennifer.
