Much to the delight of his fans, legendary shock jock Howard Stern has announced on his Sirius XM Radio Inc. (SIRI) show that he has signed a five-year deal to remain with the satellite radio broadcaster. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed. The announcement comes on the heels of concerns that Stern might leave the satellite radio company and go to yet another format such as Apple’s iTunes. Stern added that deals with his supporting cast and crew have not yet been signed, but he expected that most of them would return their return.
Stern originally came to Sirius in 2006 under a five-year, $500 million contract. With the help of Stern’s legions of devoted fans, Sirius gained the upper hand in the battle with it’s rival XM and eventually the two companies merged. The combined company recently reached 20 million subscribers and appears to no longer be in danger of going under, thanks to a cash infusion from billionaire media mogul John Malone.
