Could the wait for one of the most long-awaited followups in music history (well, at least since Guns N’ Roses ‘Chinese Democracy’) soon be over? Definitely maybe! Dr. Dre has hinted that he is set to release his much-anticipated new album ‘Detox’ on April 20. In a video message posted by producer Just Blaze on Twitter, the rapper and producer can be seen revealing the date to camera. “4/20 baby. 4/20, I’m coming,” Dr Dre tells viewers. If confirmed, the release date means ‘Detox’ would arrive on the same day as the world’s most recognized counterculture holiday.
The legendary rapper recently released the video for “Kush,” the first single from the forthcoming album. The track features the vocal talents of Snoop Dogg and Akon. ‘Detox’ certainly doesn’t lack star power as it is to feature guest appearances from the likes of Eminem, La Roux, Snoop Dogg, The Game and Akon.
Dr. Dre recently made it clear that after the album’s release in February he will focus on finding new undiscovered talent, leaving the rap game to the young stars.
”As far as me going into the mic booth, that s*it is over. I’m getting older… I’m always going to talent-scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that’s it, new artists… [can] say some of the things I won’t say. It’s been a little tussle in that area also, just because of age and being able to identify with the younger audience.” he told XXL magazine.
