With the long-awaited new Beastie Boys‘ album to be released this week, Z-Trip gives a nod to the hip-hop pioneers with his personalized megamix, All-Access. “I was stoked and humbled when asked to do this mix. I’ve been a fan of The Beasties since I first heard Mr. Magic interview them on WBLS in NY,” offers the DJ/producer. “I included some of my favorites as well as stuff off the new album. All remixed,” he adds.
Demonstrating what’s made him known as one of the premiere DJs out there, Z-Trip utilized the Beastie Boys’ entire catalog to create a megamix condensed to just 24 minutes, ranging from Licensed To Ill to Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. “It’s a Trip – it’s gotta funky beat, and you can bug out to it,” Z-Trip describes. The mix is available for free here.
Following a memorable SXSW appearance joined by another pioneer, LL Cool J, Z-Trip returned to hometown Los Angeles and made a surprise guest appearance of his own, at Low End Theory’s benefit, Low End Loves Japan. The influential weekly party welcomed the DJ extraordinaire for an electrifying set, and MTV’s “The Seven” was on hand to capture it.
