Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett will host his first horror convention,“Kirk von Hammett’s Fear FestEvil”, next February in San Francisco, California.
The three-day event (February 6-8) will feature vending, some live music, “Kirk’s Crypt” private tours, panels, signings, special guest appearances and more.
Some of the guests announced to date include makeup FX artists Greg Nicotera (The Walking Dead, Kill Bill 1 &2, Spiderman) and Tom Savini (Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead, Creepshow).
The first live music artist revealed is San Franciscan rockers Orchid.
In 2012, Hammett released his first book, “Too Much Horror Business”, a collection of photos detailing his lifelong love of monster movies and horror memorabilia.
He has also hosted “Kirk’s Crypt” at the band’s 2012 and 2013 editions of the Orion Music + More festivals.
Explaining how he first got into horror movies, Kirk said, “Five years old; I sprained my arm so I couldn’t go out and play. I was sequestered inside because I had to recover from my arm. Turned on the television; the first horror movie I’ve ever seen was on that night – ‘The Day Of The Triffids.’ I saw that movie and, from that point on, I was just hooked… those are the type of movies I gravitated to.”
