The Goonies 30th Anniversary Celebration: Jeff “Chunk” Cohen To Attend, Epic Events Schedule Announced!


The 30th Anniversary Celebration for THE GOONIES is almost upon us! Eager to relive one of the most beloved coming-of-age stories of the 1980s, fans will flock to historic Astoria, Oregon to celebrate 30 years of this amazing film.

The celebration is set for June 4-7, 2015. It was just announced that Jeff Cohen, better known as Chunk, will be attending the event to share his memories from the set of
The Goonies and talk about what he’s done since and is up to now.

Presentations will be on Saturday & Sunday, June 6-7th, at 10:30 AM. Ticket info TBA.

After playing the role of ‘Chunk’ in the film The Goonies, puberty transformed him from a Chunk into a Hunk, he could no longer find work as a funny fat kid and had to find a new profession. When not searching for Pirate Treasure, Jeff is an entertainment lawyer and co-founder of Beverly Hills based Cohen Gardner LLP which focuses on transactional representation for clients in the entertainment, media and technology verticals. He has been named by Variety to both its Dealmakers Impact List and Legal Impact List.

His first book, The Dealmaker’s Ten Commandments: Ten Essential Tools for Business Forged in the Trenches of Hollywood was published by the American Bar Association in May 2015. An active writer, he has authored numerous articles discussing business and legal matters for CNBC, The Huffington Post, Backstage, Lawyerist and others. He is proud to serve on corporate boards in both the non-profit and for-profit arenas.

Jeff received his Juris Doctor from UCLA Law School with an emphasis in business law and his undergraduate degree from The University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business. While at UC Berkeley, Jeff served as President of the Associated Students of the University of California.

Clammy 99.7 FM goes GOONY
Astoria-based radio station will rebrand to Goony 99-7 for the Anniversary to be your soundtrack for the weekend. Tune to 99.7 FM while in the area or listen live to be a part of the action from afar at clammy997.com. The station will focus on the biggest hits of 1985 from 12:01 AM Friday June 5th through 4:00 PM on Sunday June 7th. Goony 99-7 will be the on-air brochure offering updates around the clock of Goonies events and activities.

If you are in the Los Angeles area, join Gallery Nucleus as they celebrate 30 years of The Goonies with new original tribute art work. Guest curated by Sebastien Mesnard. More than 40 artists are taking part in the show. A few pieces will be sent to Astoria for display during the Anniversary event in June.

With recent news of a potential sequel, fans of The Goonies across the world are renewing their excitement about the beloved 1980s film. Filmed on location in Astoria, the community celebrates the theatrical release date each year in June. This year, the celebration includes showings of The Goonies, tour of the house used as a location in the film and a special gathering of fans in a record-breaking group “truffle shuffle.”

HOUSE TOUR, Saturday, June 7, 9:30am to 3:30pm

The house made famous in The Goonies as the residence of the Walsh family is an iconic location. Each year, thousands of fans make the trek to the house to stand where the kids did in the movie and snap a photo in front of it. The private home will be opened in honor of Goonies Day and fans will have the opportunity to step inside and take a tour on Saturday.

TRUFFLE SHUFFLE GROUP RECORD, Saturday, June 7, 5:00pm

Join with other fans of the film and help us create a record for the most people doing the Truffle Shuffle together as a group in Astoria! This event will take place at Warren Field, the Astoria High School football field, seen in the film’s opening sequence.


Relive The Goonies on the big screen at the Columbian Theater and yell out your favorite lines with hundreds of other fans. Costumes are encouraged. The Goonies will also be shown for a 21+ audience at the Columbian Theater featuring the limited edition Truffle Shuffle Stout from Fort George Brewery which will be available at the theater in addition to other locations around town all weekend.

TREASURE HUNT, Friday through Sunday, June 6-8

Join a city-wide Treasure Hunt where fans are encouraged to visit more than a dozen Goonies-enthusiast businesses and filming locations. Those that complete the hunt will be entered into a raffle drawing for prizes. Some businesses will also offer specials for Goonies weekend including a variety of 80s- and Goonies-themed activities.

As a part of the Goonies 25th Anniversary Celebration in 2010, Mayor Willis Van Dusen declared June 7 to be officially recognized as Goonies Day in Astoria, Oregon. This date is special to Astorians because it is the anniversary of the day the film was released into theaters in 1985. The Astoria-Warrenton Chamber encourages fans, both local and abroad, to celebrate the anniversary.

Next year is The Goonies 30th anniversary, and we’ll be celebrating in style. The cast came out for a riotous reunion in 2010 for the 25th anniversary, and we hope to have some of them out again. Start planning now for June 2015!

The Oregon Film Museum celebrates the art and legacy of films and film-making in the State of Oregon. Housed in the old Clatsop County Jail, known to Goonies fans as the scene of the opening jail break, the museum invites visitors to explore this and other films and the production behind making movies in Oregon. The Oregon Film Museum provides visitors the opportunity to make their own movie, with three green screen experiences, edit and have it sent to them by email. Open daily, year round. Located at 732 Duane Street in Astoria. Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children.
