Dr. Dre To Release Long Awaited ‘Detox’ Album On 420?

Dr. Dre

Could the wait for one of the most long-awaited followups in music history (well, at least since Guns N’ Roses ‘Chinese Democracy’) soon be over? Definitely maybe! Dr. Dre has hinted that he is set to release his much-anticipated new album ‘Detox’ on April 20. In a video message posted by producer Just Blaze on Twitter, the rapper and producer can be seen revealing the date to camera. “4/20 baby. 4/20, I’m coming,” Dr Dre tells viewers. If confirmed, the release date means ‘Detox’ would arrive on the same day as the world’s most recognized counterculture holiday.

The legendary rapper recently released the video for “Kush,” the first single from the forthcoming album. The track features the vocal talents of Snoop Dogg and Akon. ‘Detox’ certainly doesn’t lack star power as it is to feature guest appearances from the likes of Eminem, La Roux, Snoop Dogg, The Game and Akon.

Dr. Dre recently made it clear that after the album’s release in February he will focus on finding new undiscovered talent, leaving the rap game to the young stars.

”As far as me going into the mic booth, that s*it is over. I’m getting older… I’m always going to talent-scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that’s it, new artists… [can] say some of the things I won’t say. It’s been a little tussle in that area also, just because of age and being able to identify with the younger audience.” he told XXL magazine.

Dr. Dre

A new song purportedly set to feature on Dr. Dre‘s new album ‘Detox’ has appeared online. The track, which is titled ‘Turn Me On’, began circulating on blogs and file-sharing websites on Monday (August 16). It is the second seemingly unfinished song to leak from ‘Detox’ in recent months. In June, the Jay-Z-featuring ‘Under Pressure’ also appeared online.

‘Detox’ is Dr Dre’s long-awaited follow-up to his 1999 album, ‘2001’, and is expected to arrive later this year, although no official release date has been set.

Dr. Dre recently revealed that he was also working on an instrumental hip-hop album about the planets that make up the solar system. The veteran producer said he had been thinking about the record for “a long time” and that he wanted to call it ‘The Planets’.

“It’s just my interpretation of what each planet sounds like,” he said in an interview with Vibe magazine. “I’m gonna go off on that. Just all instrumental. I’ve been studying the planets and learning the personalities of each planet.”

Dr Dre didn’t unveil a release date for that project, but said he was working on the album during spare time and that it would feature special surround sound.
