ANNAPOLIS RISING: A Benefit For The Capital Gazette and Free Press Announced, Good Charlotte To Headline

ANNAPOLIS RISING: A Benefit For The Capital Gazette and Free Press Announced, Good Charlotte To Headline

Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley has announced that the City will host a benefit concert on July 28 for the victims’ families and survivors of June 28’s mass shooting at The Capital Gazette building in Annapolis. The concert also will promote freedom of the press and its importance to our country’s democracy. Headlining the concert will be international recording artist, Good Charlotte, a Maryland-based band with connection to the City.

The concert will begin in the afternoon with several musical performances and guest speakers coming from the world of journalism. Proceeds will be directed the fund established for the victims and survivors and journalism scholarships. The event will take place from a stage on College Avenue with the Maryland State House in the background and the audience located on Bladen Street, extending down toward Rowe Boulevard.

“This horrible tragedy cannot be forgotten. Sadly, our country’s attention will soon shift from this event that has forever changed our city. We will not stand by and allow the memory of these slain journalists to be forgotten. We also stand up for our journalists and our freedom of the press and this concert is just one step in that direction,” said Mayor Buckley.

“When news of the Capitol Gazette mass shooting broke, we were filled with shock and heartbreak. It’s hard not to be overcome by a feeling of helplessness for the victims and their families, and to be discouraged that this has become a reoccurring headline in all of our lives,” said Benji and Joel Madden. “This tragedy hit us hard, not only because it happened in the city where our extended families live and work, and the place that gave our band its start, but because of what it seemed to symbolize: An attack on journalists and the ability we have in this country to share information freely. It’s an attack on freedom of speech and expression and the right to feel safe in doing so. Annapolis will always be dear to us, and we couldn’t be more proud of how the city has handled this tragedy. It’s only natural for us to want to do our part for the city and the people who have given us a place in Maryland that we still call home.”

The event will be ticketed. Information regarding tickets will be available soon.

Good Charlotte Release Video For “Actual Pain” From Forthcoming Studio Album

Good Charlotte Release Video For “Actual Pain” From Forthcoming Studio Album

Good Charlotte today shared a new music video for “Actual Pain”, the first single off their highly anticipated seventh full-length studio album Generation Rx. Directed by Jake Stark, the introspective clip examines the album’s prevailing lyrical themes of trauma, pain, and loneliness. Watch it HERE. Generation Rx is due for release on September 14, 2018 via a newly minted global partnership between the band’s MDDN label and BMG. “Actual Pain” is available to stream and download now HERE.

Generation Rx represents both a new chapter and full circle moment for the group-brothers Joel [vocals] and Benji Madden [guitar, vocals], Billy Martin [guitar], Paul Thomas [bass], and Dean Butterworth [drums]. Powered by punk spirit, rock songcraft, and cinematic ambition, they retain the signature vitality and vulnerability of their formative years, while delivering an urgent, unafraid, and undeniable message befitting of two decades in the game.

The quintet craft intricate, yet infectious anthems of hope for a generation under the shadow of the Opioid epidemic, icons gone too soon, mass tragedy, loneliness, and confusion. Produced by Zakk Cervini and Benji during intimate sessions at MDDN headquarters, the record finds Good Charlotte doing what they do best-speaking directly to the youth.

Good Charlotte will return to the road in Europe and The UK for a massive tour kicking off February 1, 2019. Prior to their February tour, Good Charlotte will appear at a number of festivals this summer. A complete list of upcoming live dates and ticket information can be found HERE.

GENERATION RX: Good Charlotte To Release Seventh Studio Album On September 14th!

GENERATION RX: Good Charlotte To Release Seventh Studio Album On September 14th!

GOOD CHARLOTTE today announced that they will release their anxiously awaited seventh full-length studio album, Generation Rx, on September 14, 2018. It marks the first record to be released under the newly minted global partnership between the band’s MDDN label and BMG. The album’s lead single “Actual Pain” is available to stream and download now HERE.

“At the beginning of the year, we were reflecting a lot,” said Joel and Benji. “We just played a memorial service in honor of Lil Peep. We were thinking of that. Our generation was the first to have so many ways to deal with pain. Throughout this century, we’ve seen the whole opioid crisis get worse. We wondered if we were really doing our part. We wanted to bet back out there on the battlefield and spread insight, share experience, and give anything we could to improve lives. The message is you can get through the pain, survive it, and have the life you want. We made the record on our own terms and our own time. In that respect, we channeled the soul of our first two albums. This is the album we’ve been waiting 15 years to create.”

Lead single “Actual Pain” makes good on that promise. Sweeping strings underscore a wall of distortion as a hypnotic hook cuts deep. Raw and relatable, it’s the perfect introduction to Generation Rx.

Good Charlotte will return to the road in Europe and The UK for a massive tour kicking off February 1, 2019. A special fan club pre-sale goes live May 29 HERE. Prior to their February tour, Good Charlotte will appear at a number of festivals this summer. A complete list of upcoming live dates and ticket information can be found HERE.

ABOUT GOOD CHARLOTTE:
First formed in 1996 by brothers Joel and Benji Madden, Maryland’s GOOD CHARLOTTE soundtracked the turn-of-the-century and empowered a generation with one cleverly catchy anthem after another. 2000’s landmark self-titled debut earned a gold plaque and quietly set the stage for worldwide superstardom. In 2002, they unleashed the now-classic The Young and the Hopeless, which eventually went RIAA triple-platinum and would be lauded in the Top 20 of Rolling Stone‘s “50 Greatest Pop-Punk Albums” and BuzzFeed‘s “36 Pop Punk Albums You Need to Hear Before You F–ing Die. 2004’s The Chronicles of Life and Death bowed at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and reached platinum status as Good Morning Revival [2007] and Cardiology [2010] repeated that Top 10 success and brought the band around the world multiple times in front of countless screaming fans. Along the way, everyone from N.E.R.D. and Three 6 Mafia to Avenged Sevenfold and Tonight Alive jumped at the chance to collaborate. By 2018, cumulative sales exceeded 11 million worldwide, while accolades encompassed everything from KERRANG! Awards to an MTV VMA. Following a six-year hiatus, they made a much-lauded return with their first independent offering Youth Authority during 2016. However, their music and message prove as potent as ever on 2018’s Generation Rx-the first album to be released under their partnership with BMG. Generation Rx needed a voice, and there’s no one better to provide it than GOOD CHARLOTTE.

Pop-Punk Icons Good Charlotte To Release Sixth Studio Album In Summer 2016

Pop-Punk Icons Good Charlotte To Release Sixth Studio Album In Summer 2016

good-charlotte-2016-1

GOOD CHARLOTTE are set to return with their sixth studio album via the multi-platinum-sellingband’s own indie label MDDN, distributed worldwide through Kobalt. The group’s first single will premiere on April 4 with the album to follow this summer (exact release date is TBA). While the pop-punk icons are currently in the studio finishing the album, they’ve announced four special one-night-only shows. The trek will launch Monday, April 18 at TLA in Philadelphia, PA and hit the following cities: Wednesday, April 20 at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, Thursday, April 21 at Webster Hall in New York, NY and Friday, April 22 at Paradise Rock Club. Special album pre-order and tour pre-sale bundles are available starting this Wednesday at: www.goodcharlotte.com.

GOOD CHARLOTTE are as inspired and committed as ever to making music that positively impacts the lives of their fans. They say:

“The new album is like our previous albums in that it’s for people who love music and are constantly motivated and trying to live a rad life. Everyone has something to prove to themselves, waking up every day and deciding to change their life for the better and help others do the same. GC has always been about doing this together, motivating each other, finding the unity and energy that exists in taking life’s challenges and coming out on the other side. It’s about being inspired and excited to be both who you are and who you want to be.” — GOOD CHARLOTTE

Formed in the mid-90s, GOOD CHARLOTTE have five albums and two collaborations under their belt.  The band was integral in establishing a global critical mass for the pop-punk genre. The group’s 2000 self-titled debut laid the foundation with the singles “Little Things” and “Festival Song.” Then in 2002 the breakthrough success of The Young and the Hopeless catapulted pop-punk into the stratosphere, and set them on the path to worldwide superstardom. The group followed with multi-platinum albums including The Chronicles of Life and Death (2004) and Good Morning Revival (2007). Following their most recent release Cardiology (2010), the group needed to take a breather.

“We had grown up inside the band and it was all we knew,” Benji says. “We all needed to step away to find out who we were outside of it as well as do some growing personally.”

The Madden brothers focused on the fully-functional recording studio they own and operate in the heart of Hollywood where they write, record and produce music for other artists in many genres. The brothers also serve as coaches on the highly-rated Australian version of “The Voice.” The drive resurfaced and Benji and Joel credit the young Australian pop-punk group 5 Seconds Of Summer for re-igniting the GOOD CHARLOTTE spark. After working with 5SOS since 2014, it reminded the brothers of how much fun they’d had with their own band–and in 2015, the timing felt right.

“We got the bug and the writing just started flowing,” explains Joel. “We worked on a few records that made us realize it would be fun to make our own record again. There’s a certain record that only we can make; those Good Charlotte records. We got a little nostalgic and we went our best instincts.”

In November 2015, GOOD CHARLOTTE released a one-off video for the song “Makeshift Love,” a classic anthem that unabashedly screams early 2000s. Recorded with longtime writer/producer John Feldmann, the infectious song captures the vibe that made GC so revered. They quickly followed it up with a triumphant, sold-out show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA. Now, after a limited run of U.K. shows in February, a summer 2016 release date for their first new album since 2010’s Cardiology on the horizon, and the overwhelmingly positive and warm welcome they’ve received from the masses, GOOD CHARLOTTE is ecstatic to get back to their true purpose.

GOOD CHARLOTTE tour dates:

April 18: Philadelphia, PA, TLA
April 20: Washington, D.C., 930 Club
April 21: New York, NY, Webster Hall
April 22, Boston, MA, Paradise Rock Club

Good Charlotte Returns With “Makeshift Love” Single, One-Off Show At The Troubadour

Good Charlotte Returns With “Makeshift Love” Single, One-Off Show At The Troubadour

good-charlotte-2015-1

GOOD CHARLOTTE have returned and the band is ready to unleash their new song “Makeshift Love” in its entirety… as well as announce a special, one-night only live performance – their first in over five years.  On Thursday, November 19th, Good Charlotte will be performing at Los Angeles’ Troubadour (9081 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA). Tickets go on sale Friday, November 6th at 10am PT. Go to www.goodcharlotte.com for ticket information.

“Makeshift Love” will be available to stream exclusively on Apple Music and for purchase exclusively on iTunes today at 9:30am PT/12:30pm ET until Saturday, November 7th and afterwards on all online retailers.

“We all wanted to stand on stage together again, as a band,” explains Benji Madden about their decision to come out of hiatus for this surprise show. “We wanted to do it especially for our fans at home in America, and share this special moment.” Aside from being current LA residents (the band originally formed in Waldorf, MD), the significance of the Troubadour is a special one, as Benji reminisced with Alternative Press about their self-titled album tour in 2000: “We played the Troubadour and  Eric Valentine came out to see us in front of our fans. That night we decided we would go into the studio together and make the next record, which would become The Young and The Hopeless.”

As an authentic return to form, “Makeshift Love” is a classic pop-punk song that fits perfectly within their oeuvre, both sonically and lyrically. The song that brings the band out of their hiatus ironically is a song about breaking up. “Like all our breakup songs, it’s kind of a ‘non-break-up break-up song’,” he laughs. “In our music, there has always been some hope that it will all work out and, just like all of our affectionately sarcastic songs of the past, there is the same duality in this song too.”

#welcomebackGC

Though the band itself has been on ice for a few years, Benji and Joel have been on fire. While on break with Good Charlotte, the Madden twins have successfully ventured into co-writing and production, penning songs with All Time Low, 5 Seconds of Summer, and more. “We’ve had a blast becoming friends with younger bands this past year like Sleeping with Sirens and 5 Seconds of Summer,” explains Benji. “Working with these bands has made us fall in love with being a band again, and we feel we have a lot to say about what it means to be band making this kind of music.”

With a brand new single, its lyric video (which will premiere on Friday), and a one-night-only live event in Los Angeles, Good Charlotte seems poised for a massive return.  So what do they have in store?

“2016 marks the 20 year anniversary of GC,” he concludes… and he adds enigmatically: “These days. we are all operating on feelings, so we will see how it feels!”

THE MADDEN BROTHERS: Joel and Benji Madden Launch New Band

THE MADDEN BROTHERS: Joel and Benji Madden Launch New Band

the-madden-brothers-2014

Global music stars Joel and Benji Madden — known for their band Good Charlotte as well as appearing on Australia’s highly rated The Voice — have announced that they have formed a new band called The Madden Brothers and will release their debut album entitled Greetings From California…, on Capitol Records October 7th. The first single “We Are Done,” a soulful, ’60s-inspired tune that they wrote with highly acclaimed producer Eric Valentine, will be released June 2 along with a lyric video. The single will impact Pop and Adult Contemporary radio on June 30, the same day that the official music video will be released.

Having already earned a place in history with Good Charlotte’s radio-ready pop-punk sound captured on such albums as their 3x US platinum breakthrough The Young and the Hopeless and over 10 million combined sales from their 5 albums sold worldwide, Joel and Benji were eager to flex their creative muscles with an entirely new project. “The idea was to not hide behind a band name or a genre, but rather to write some songs, and find someone to record them and help us deliver the truest picture of who we are musically,” Benji says. The result is Greetings From California…, which showcases the Maddens’ killer knack for melody, radiant sibling harmonies, and heartfelt story-telling.

The album is split into two “sides,” the first filled with upbeat, sunny pop-rock produced by their long-time collaborator Eric Valentine, who also produced The Young and the Hopeless and 2004’s The Chronicles of Life and Death and has also worked with Queens of the Stone Age, Taking Back Sunday, Third Eye Blind and countless others. It features the lyrically unapologetic “We Are Done,” which Benji says is an anthem about standing up for yourself. “It’s for anyone who’s feeling unappreciated or abused, or is suffering in any way,” he says. “We want to inspire people to speak up.”

Side Two is an earthy blend of folk, Southern rock, and ’70s-era FM pop produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Joe Chiccarelli, known for his work with The White Stripes, The Strokes The Shins and many others. Its centerpiece is “California Rain,”which tells the story of the Maryland-born brothers’ journey from East Coast to West Coast. It was also the first song they wrote back in 2012, during an inspiring visit with their friend Pharrell Williams, who encouraged them to follow their muse. “We went to see him in Miami and Benji brought an acoustic guitar,” Joel recalls. “We wrote the song together that night.  It felt like a repeat of us leaving home at 18 for California with just an acoustic guitar. All these years later, it all comes down to an acoustic guitar.”

EllisMania 7: Jason Ellis Recruits Metal Mulisha Founder Brian Deegan and BMX Champion Dave Mirra For Main Event

EllisMania 7: Jason Ellis Recruits Metal Mulisha Founder Brian Deegan and BMX Champion Dave Mirra For Main Event

Jason Ellis

Hot on the heels of its series premiere on FUEL TV, fans are anticipating the return of Sirius XM host JASON ELLIS’s EllisMania on September 17, 2011. For this year’s event Ellis wasted no time assembling an unforgettable line-up that features X Games BMX champion Dave Mirra taking on freestyle motocross legend and Metal Mulisha founder Brian Deegan. In preparation for their battle being held at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV, both athletes are training hard. All proceeds from the main event fight will go to charity, with Brian fighting for The Loma Linda Children’s Foundation and Dave fighting for the Meningitis Foundation of America.

Brian Deegan stated, “I’m excited about the fight, I’ve always wanted to get in the ring and this should be a good match up. With a portion of ticket sales going to charity, it’s fighting for a cause, so it’s twice as rewarding.”

“A little over a year ago I almost lost my life due to meningitis. I am truly blessed to be here today with my family,” commented Dave Mirra. “I am fighting for anyone who has ever been affected by this terrible virus.”

Jason Ellis himself will also be stepping into the ring for his biggest fight ever at this year’s EllisMania, as he takes on mixed martial arts veteran Kit Cope. Fans will be entertained throughout the evening by a series of bizarre and hilarious fights that Ellis and his team have put together.

“I should be receiving an X Games gold medal for pulling this off,” said Jason Ellis jokingly.

The Hard Rock Hotel will also be holding an EllisMania pool party on Friday September 16th with performances by Unwritten Law, Big B, Jason Ellis’ Death Death Die, and DJ Benji Madden.

FUEL TV will be filming the entire event, and will create a five-episode series that premieres Wednesday, November 30 at 9:00PM ET/PT.
