MTV announced last month that Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed and Dylan O’Brien had been cast to star in the remake of the 80s classic Teen Wolf .
MTV has revealed that director Russell Mulcahy (Razorback, Highlander, Resident Evil: Extinction) will be helming the film.
MTV’s take on the film, which originally starred Michael J. Fox as a high-school student who discovers he is a werewolf, is a dramatic thriller with a buddy-comedy element at the center and a romantic plot line.
The story will revolve around Scott McCall (Posey), a dorky high-school student who gets a rush of new powers, including the ability to attract girls, after a wolf attack. Dylan O’Brien will play Scott’s best friend who is initially dismissive of Scott’s theory that he was bitten by a wolf but then begins research on human-werewolf transformation. Crystal Reed (MTV’s “Hard Times”) will play a sweet new girl at school who is immediately smitten with Scott.

Simon Pegg has issued an update on what is happening with is upcoming film Paul over on the forums of www.peggster.net. Here is what he had to say: “Hi all,
Thought you might like to hear how things are going on the Paul front. It’s been a while since we wrapped now and with the absence of Lance B’s video blogs, I guess things must seem to have gone very quiet. Rest assured the good (space)ship Paul is progressing apace. Our venerable and brilliant director Greg Mottola, is currently ensconced in an edit suite in NYC with Oscar winning editor, Chris Dickens (Slumdog Millionaire … and Spaced, Shaun and Fuzz), putting together the first pre f/x cut. The next phase of the process will see Greg and Chris continue to hone and cut the movie and will of course entail the complex process of bringing Paul himself to life, combining the efforts of ace f/x wizards, Double Negative and further work with The Green Hornet himself, Mr. Seth Rogen. Rest assured all is going well and we’re all very excited. More news of a kind as we encounter it.
Simon”

Earlier this year, MTV announced the project in January as part of its development slate. MTV’s has ordered up a pilot for it’s reinvention of the 1980s movie “Teen Wolf”.
In the original 1985 film, Michael J. Fox starred as a teenager who discovers he is a werewolf, hilarity ensues. The MTV version will be set in high school, draw from the horror genre to explore werewolf mythology and include a romantic plot line.
“It has a fresh take and is very different from the original,” said Liz Gateley, senior vp MTV series development. “It has more of an ‘American Werewolf in Paris’ feel to it. It’s a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques.”
The new “Wolf” was written by “Criminal Minds” creator Jeff Davis, who executive produces the pilot with Marty Adelstein (Fox’s “Prison Break”) and Rene Echevarria (ABC’s “Castle”).
