Taylor Swift will add another piece of VMA history to her résumé this weekend.
CBS and MTV announced today that Swift will receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, a new award created to recognize artists whose work behind the camera has pushed music video forward and expanded the possibilities of visual storytelling.
A seven-time VMA Best Director nominee and four-time winner, Swift has steadily built an impressive body of work as a director. Her credits include “The Man,” “cardigan,” “willow,” “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Anti-Hero,” “Bejeweled,” “Lavender Haze,” “I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault),” “Karma (feat. Ice Spice),” “Fortnight (feat. Post Malone),” “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite.”
The new Artist Director Honors celebrates artists who have developed a distinct directorial voice while using music video as more than simply a promotional vehicle. In Swift’s case, that has increasingly meant building entire worlds around her songs, packed with narrative threads, visual callbacks, symbolism and plenty of details for fans to pick apart long after the credits roll.
Swift heads into this year’s show with 11 nominations following the addition of the VMAs’ social categories, while Madonna leads the field with 13.
