Ace Frehley’s ‘Anomaly’ To Be Reissued As ‘Anomaly Deluxe’ On August 25th

Ace Frehley’s ‘Anomaly’ To Be Reissued As ‘Anomaly Deluxe’ On August 25th

Founding KISS guitarist, solo artist, and 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Ace Frehley has premiered an all new bonus track titled “Hard For Me”. The track will appear on a reissue of his 2009 album Anomaly re-released as Anomaly Deluxe coming out on September 8, 2017 via Entertainment One Music.

“I think this new edition of the album is great – a special treat for the fans,” says Frehley. “And, with the bonus tracks, they’ll get a little more insight into how the album came together.”

Among the new tracks are two previously unreleased demos: “Hard for Me,” which was later reworked into the album’s “Foxy and Free,” and an early take of “Pain in The Neck,” different in tempo and arrangement from the final version. Also included is the previously digital-only Anomaly bonus track “The Return of Space Bear.”

Anomaly Deluxe will also feature enhanced album art, a new live poster, and extensive liner notes by rock writer and Ace Frehley historian, Ron Albanese (including track by track commentary by Frehley). Pre order options can be seen below.

In late 2016 the company entered into an extended agreement with Frehley to release two more studio albums.

Vice President of Sales and Acquisitions at eOne Ken Gullic says, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have an artist of Ace’s stature on our roster, and to re-release this album on eOne. The Anomaly Deluxe edition completes the trifecta of his comeback trilogy, alongside his first Top 10 album, Space Invader, as well as Origins Vol.1. Ace will follow this with two more studio albums.”

At the time of its release, ‘Anomaly’ lived up to its name. “There was a lot of pressure on me, because I hadn’t done an album in 20 years,” explains Frehley. “I wasn’t sure it wasn’t going to be well-received. Luckily, it was!” The record debuted at #27 on the U.S. Billboard chart.

Between live shows in the United States, Frehley is writing for his next album, and reveals that sessions have included working with Gene Simmons for an expected 2018 release.

“I am writing for my next studio album,” he begins, “Gene came over my house to write – it went fantastic. In a matter of three hours, he and I came up with two new songs for my (next) record. I’m thrilled.” The occasion was momentous for another reason: “it was the first time I have worked with him while I was sober,” he reveals, “and it was a pleasure.”

‘Anomaly Deluxe’ Tracklisting:
1. Foxy & Free
2. Outer Space
3. Pain In The Neck
4. Fox On The Run
5. Genghis Khan
6. Too Many Faces
7. Change The World
8. Space Bear (Extended)
9. A Little Below The Angels
10. Sister
11. It’s A Great Life
12. Fractured Quantum
13. Hard For Me (Bonus)
14. Pain In The Neck (Bonus – Slower Version)
15. The Return of Space Bear (Bonus)

In September Frehley and his band will return to Australia and New Zealand for a series of dates with Alice Cooper.

“I have not been to Australia in a while,” he begins, “Alice and I have been friends since the ’70s, and playing with him is going to be bigger and better.”

Speaking of playing, there is a rumor that a certain song will be performed on the tour by Frehley, one that goes back to being a fan favorite Down Under when he first toured there with KISS in 1980. The original “Spaceman” sets the record straight.

“I gotta do ‘Talk to Me’ – for Australia, I’ll do it!”

Ace Frehley Debuts “Fire and Water” Video Featuring Paul Stanley

Ace Frehley Debuts “Fire and Water” Video Featuring Paul Stanley

ace-frehley-2016-4-1

2014 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame member ACE FREHLEY today has debuted a brand new music video for his cover of Free’s 1970 hit “Fire and Water” featuring none other than KISS frontman PAUL STANLEY. The video is being premiered exclusively through VEVO. “It was great working with Paul again and all the years we’ve spent apart doing other projects seemed to vanish once we hit the stage!,” says Frehley.

The video notches itself into rock and roll history as the first time both Frehley and Stanley appear in a music video since KISS’ music video for “Psycho Circus” released in 1998. It’s also the first time in 14 years that the two shared a stage since KISS’ appearance at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Finally, it’s the first time Frehley has released a music video since 1989, which was Frehley’s cover of “Do Ya” released by both The Move and ELO.

Earlier this week, ACE FREHLEY cracked the U.S. top 10 with his latest effort Origins: Vol. 1 charting at #1 on the Billboard Hard Music Chart, #3 on the Billboard Rock chart and #6 on the Billboard Current Chart selling more than 16k units in its first week of release according to Nielsen Soundscan. Internationally, the LP most notably came in at #2 on the Sweden Hard Rock Charts and #05 on the England Indie Album Breaker Charts.

Origins: Vol.1 and its success serves as the follow up to Space Invader, which debuted at #9 on the Top 200 Chart in 2014, the same year Ace Frehley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an original member of KISS.

ACE FREHLEY released Origins Vol. 1, a collection of 12 newly recorded classics from Ace’s formative years featuring some of the biggest names in rock and roll on April 15, 2016. This collaboration marks the first time that Ace and Paul appear on the same studio recording since KISS’ 1998 reunion album Psycho Circus.

Ace spoke with Rolling Stone about the new record, his guest players and recording with Paul after all these years. Rolling Stone writes: Regarding his reunion with Stanley, Frehley shrugs off any residual tension between the two of them. “We’ve always been friends,” he says. “The press seems to amplify negativity. I guess it makes good copy.”

Rolling Stone debuted “White Room,” a few months ago, the classic hit originally performed by Cream. Other guests are none other than Slash trading leads on Thin Lizzy’s classic “Emerald,” Lita Ford singing and playing lead on The Troggs staple “Wild Thing,” Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace as he sings his classic KISS composition “Parasite” for the very first time, as well as Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic,” and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready also plays guitar with Ace as he finally sings his KISS “Alive!” mainstay “Cold Gin.”

Greg Prato Releases ‘Survival of the Fittest: Heavy Metal in the 1990’s’

Greg Prato Releases ‘Survival of the Fittest: Heavy Metal in the 1990’s’

Another epic read from Greg Prato

Another epic read from Greg Prato

Since its inception in the late 1960’s, heavy metal has experienced quite a few ups and downs in popularity. But there was one specific decade that sticks out as the most troubling – the 1990’s. In what seemed like one fell swoop, a style of metal that had been popular for much of the 1980’s was rendered obsolete, and in its place, was a much more real, raw, and unique approach – detected in several new metal-based “sub-genres.” Add to it several changes in the music industry and media, and it appeared as if traditional metal may have met its expiration date…before several bands (and a certain traveling festival tour) helped put headbanging rock back on track.

Written by journalist/author Greg Prato, ‘Survival of the Fittest: Heavy Metal in the 1990’s’ is the first book to focus entirely on this decade. Set in an oral history format, ‘Survival’ features over 80 interviews conducted exclusively for this book, including current or past members of Pantera, Sepultura, Fear Factory, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Exodus, Testament, Dream Theater, King’s X, Extreme, Winger, Cinderella, Living Colour, Faith No More, Primus, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, White Zombie, Stone Temple Pilots, Kyuss, Danzig, Clutch, Life of Agony, Biohazard, Type O Negative, Within Temptation, Cradle of Filth, Death, Coal Chamber, and System of a Down (among many others), as well as Eddie Trunk, Riki Rachtman, and Lonn Friend. Also featured is a foreword penned by Pantera bassist Rex Brown.

Greg Prato is a Long Island, New York-based journalist, who has written for Rolling Stone and Guitar Player, and has authored such books as ‘Iron Maiden: ’80 ’81,’ ‘The Faith No More & Mr. Bungle Companion,’ ‘The Eric Carr Story,’ and ‘Grunge is Dead: The Oral History of Seattle Rock Music.’ ‘Survival of the Fittest’ is his 16th book overall.

Available as a paperback version [616 pages, $24.99], a Kindle download [$9.99], and a Nook download [$9.99], ‘Survival of the Fittest’ helps put the ’90s and heavy metal all into perspective.

THAT METAL SHOW: This Week’s Episode To Feature Ace Freely, Mark Farner And Nita Strauss

THAT METAL SHOW: This Week’s Episode To Feature Ace Freely, Mark Farner And Nita Strauss

TMS-week10-ace-2015

Episode 10 of season 14 of VH1 Classic’s centerpiece in original programming “That Metal Show” marks the return of Kiss original guitarist Ace Frehley and the debut of former Grand Funk Railroad singer and guitarist Mark Farner. Ace chats with hosts Eddie Trunk, Don Jamieson, and Jim Florentine about Kiss’s long overdue induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, being on stage with his former band mates, and his frustrations with the original Kiss lineup not performing together at the ceremony. Mark Farner shares stories of the early Grand Funk Railroad days, even telling about a time they opened for Led Zeppelin and how he was blown away watching them perform. He says it is still one of the best performances he has ever seen to this day.

The episode also features the debut of Nita Strauss from Alice Cooper as the guest musician. Nita is only the second female musician to grace the second stage. Nita tears it up on the guitar and also talks about playing with Alice Cooper, being discovered while performing the national anthem at an LA Kiss football game, and the solo album she is currently working on.

This week’s “Rank” segment finds Frehley creating the definitive list of the Kiss albums he performed on. He jokingly states that he couldn’t rank certain albums higher because his recollection of recording them was a blur. Eddie continues to impress the panel during this week’s “Stump The Trunk” and this week’s “Throwdown” puts the debut Led Zeppelin album against the debut Black Sabbath album. The panel is split but the audience declares a clear-cut winner between the two. The “TMS Top 5” takes a week off but “Take It Or Leave It” returns, as the topic is the recent announcement of the retirement of Twisted Sister.

Fans can watch all previous episodes and other exclusive bonus clips at ThatMetalShow.VH1.com and on the new VH1 app as well as the new “That After Show” segment.

Season 14 has showcased some of the biggest names in music. This season featured Rush’s Geddy Lee, Frank Bello/Charlie Benante/Scott Ian of Anthrax, John 5, Chris Jericho, Kerry King of Slayer, Dave Lombardo formerly of Slayer and now with Philm, Zakk Wylde, Michael Schenker, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, punk rock legend Marky Ramone, rap icon Darryl McDaniels of Run DMC, Gary Holt of Slayer/Exodus, Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless, Max Cavalera. With 2 episodes remaining this season, Taime Downe of Faster Pussycat, Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides, and Mark Slaughter will appear on the penultimate episode.

Known for having the best musicians in music perform each week, Season 14 of “That Metal Show” finishes with TMS alum Mike Orlando of Adrenaline Mob making his TMS musical debut and Billy Sheehan returning to dazzle the crowd with his unmatched bass playing skills. Previous Season 14 performers included Alex Skolnick of Testament, John 5 of Rob Zombie/John 5 Trio, Joel Hoekstra of Whitesnake, Frank Hannon of Tesla, the berserker Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society, double-neck shred-master Michael Angelo Batio, Rich Ward of Fozzy, and Damon Johnson of Thin Lizzy/Black Star Riders.

“That Metal Show” first premiered on VH1 Classic in November 2008 and since has become the only place for all things hard rock and heavy metal on cable television.  The show has been visited by some of the biggest names in the genres including members of Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Metallica, Aerosmith, Pantera, Kiss, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Guns N’ Roses, Queensrÿche, Heart, and many more.

“That Metal Show” is a production of VH1 Classic. Lee Rolontz, Jeff Baumgardner, and Keshia Williams serve as executive producers for VH1.

VH1 Classic brings you the best metal, rock, soul and pop from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. The channel features the gods of rock – from Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Iron Maiden to Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, and Dire Straits – in marquee concerts and music specials, and of course, tons of classic music videos. Recent big events include “National Metal Day” (11.11) and “Metal Evolution”, an 11-part documentary series on the history of metal.  When it comes down to it – all music should go to 11.

Horror Business: Gene Simmons Teams With WWE Studios To Launch Erebus Pictures

Horror Business: Gene Simmons Teams With WWE Studios To Launch Erebus Pictures

gene-simmons-2015

WWE Studios has announced a new partnership with media mogul and legendary rocker Gene Simmons to launch label Erebus Pictures, which will finance and produce elevated horror movies. The new venture has locked a three-picture co-production deal starting with “Temple,” which was originally acquired and developed by WWE Studios.

Erebus Pictures, named after the Greek primordial deity representing the personification of darkness, will shop worldwide rights on all titles and leverage WWE’s extensive platforms from weekly TV shows, including WWE flagship programs Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, digital, social media and WWE Network to market its titles.

“The horror genre continues to fascinate me as it proves to be endlessly thrilling and engaging for audiences,” said the KISS icon, who has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide after nearly 41 years in rock ‘n’ roll and more than eight seasons and 167 episodes of his own reality TV show. “I am so thrilled to be working with the masterminds from WWE Studios in launching Erebus Pictures.”

“Horror films fall into a genre that thrives on genuine passion, and I believe this partnership truly capitalizes on that sentiment and supports our vision,” said Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios. “I am confident that Erebus will provide audiences with an unprecedented horror experience.”

“Temple” is written by Matt Savelloni (“Exile To Babylon”) and will follow a team of highly trained operatives who find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is suddenly shut down. While investigating the source of the malfunction, the crew begins to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they attempt to uncover who or what killed the team previously stationed at the compound.

A director for “Temple” will be announced shortly, with principal photography to take place this summer. Erebus Pictures’ second feature will go into production later this year.

Gene Simmons is repped by legal team Kleinberg Lopez.

Bradley Buchanan negotiated on behalf of WWE Studios.

Ace Frehley Announces Touring Lineup In Support of ‘Space Invader’

Ace Frehley Announces Touring Lineup In Support of ‘Space Invader’

ace-frehley-2014

Hot off the heels of the monster debut of Space Invader, Ace Frehley has announced his touring lineup for the first leg of tour dates, his first U.S. shows in four years, which will be announced next week. Frehley adds comment:

“I can’t wait to hit the road again with this new lineup.  I’ll be performing Ace classics as well as songs off my new CD ‘Space Invader’ for the enjoyment of the fans. Let There Be Rock!”

The 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has tapped none other than Richie Scarlet, who rode shotgun performing rhythm guitar and vocal duties on Ace’s “Trouble Walking” platter in 1989, and will do so again on stage. Ritchie toured with Ace in 1984 and 1985 and periodically from 1989 through 1995 and was also known for touring with Sebastian Bach.

On bass and vocals Chris Wyse from Queens, NY will man the post. Previously recording with Ozzy Osbourne and playing on Mick Jagger’s 2001 solo album, Chris is well known as the bass player from The Cult since 2006. Chris can also be heard on Frehley’s new release, Space Invader on select tracks. He also covers bass duties in his current band, Owl.

Finally, Scot Coogan will be behind the drum kit for Frehley’s upcoming tour. An Ace Frehley touring band veteran in his own right, Scott was also a member of Nikki Sixx’s Brides of Destruction recording and touring  band in 2004 and Lita Ford’s touring drummer in 2012.

Ace FrehleyAce Frehley recently made history with his new album Space Invader, which debuted at #9 on the Top 200 Chart in its week of release.  The LP scored the highest charting position of ANY Kiss solo album ever, and marks Frehley’s first return to the Top 10 since KISS’s 1998 Pyscho Circus reunion album. Internationally, Space Invader has debuted #1 on the Independent Chart and #16 on the Top 200 Chart in Canada, Top 40 in Switzerland and Sweden, and hit a historic benchmark for the first time ever as a solo artist in Germany.

Space Invader, Frehley’s first studio album in five years, has also received praise from critics.  Rolling Stone wrote, “Gene Simmons has claimed Ace Frehley doesn’t deserve to wear Kiss’ Kabuki clown paint, but the former Spaceman’s first solo LP in five years says otherwise,” while Associated Press hailed, “…the original Kiss lead guitarist has recorded his best solo album since his groundbreaking self-titled album in 1978.”   Paste also confirmed, “Space Invader is a good rock album, and it’s an even better guitar record.”

Frehley stopped by The Tonight Show prior to his album release to sit in with legendary house band The Roots to perform his classic hit “New York Groove.” Watch here.
