Evanescence Release Video For First-Single ‘Imperfection’ From Upcoming Album ‘Synthesis’

EVANESCENCE, have released the new video “Imperfection,” out today, HERE. Shot on location in Los Angeles last month with director P.R. Brown, the song is the first single off the group’s fourth and most ambitious album to date, SYNTHESIS, set for release November 10. The album is a reimagining of some of EVANESCENCE’s best-loved songs-as well as a couple of new ones–recorded with a full orchestra and electronics combined with the band and AMY LEE’s virtuoso piano and voice. Watch the behind-the-scenes video story and band interviews from Revolver magazine, HERE.

AMY LEE describes the concept of the video for “Imperfection,”“This collaboration with P.R. Brown has just gotten better and more crucial as we’ve gone along. It started out with the ‘SYNTHESIS’ artwork, I told him how I saw the music, as this co-existence of synthetic and organic, the contrast and the blend of two very different elements. He interpreted that visually into mixing media, hand painting on photographs, putting every shot into its own unique universe. The idea for the ‘Imperfection’ video was about bringing that art to life, and capturing the emotion of the lyrics. Our amazing young actress, Rogue Parker, plays the role of me as a girl, my inner-self. The video is meant to give visual to feeling, an internal picture of processing loss, and life, speaking from an adult’s perspective to my past self.”

“This is such a powerful track that resonates on a truly emotional level,” adds director P.R. Brown. “The goal we wanted to achieve in the video was to create a visual translation of the music and reveal the meaning in an abstract way. We all struggle in life and need help to get through everything. In this case we wanted to show that sometimes the strength needed to get through has to come from you.”

EVANESCENCE have just launched their U.S. and Canadian “Synthesis Live” tour–which features AMY and the band embedded with a live, 28-piece orchestra and electronic programming delivering a transcendent experience. With only three shows behind them, the critical acclaim is already pouring in for this unique concert event. Tickets for EVANESCENCE’s “Synthesis Live” fall tour (see all dates below) are on-sale now (here).

On SYNTHESIS, EVANESCENCE–lead singer-songwriter and pianist AMY LEE, bassist TIM MCCORD, drummer WILL HUNT, lead guitarist TROY MCLAWHORN and guitarist/background vocalist JEN MAJURA–worked with co-producer/programmer WILLIAM HUNT and orchestra arranger and composer David Campbell on SYNTHESIS. The album also features two new EVANESCENCE songs, including the first single “Imperfection” and “Hi-Lo,”the latter of which includes a guest performance by famed violinist Lindsey Stirling.

Both Standard CD & Digital versions of SYNTHESIS are available now for pre-order (here), in addition to a limited-edition deluxe box of the album, which includes the CD, a DVD featuring a documentary on making the album as well as instrumental and 5.1 Surround Sound mixes of the songs.

Evanescence Release New Single, “Imperfection,” From Upcoming ‘Synthesis’ Album

Evanescence Release New Single, “Imperfection,” From Upcoming ‘Synthesis’ Album

EVANESCENCE are returning with SYNTHESIS, their fourth and most ambitious album to date, set for a November 10th release. The album is a reimagining of some of EVANESCENCE’s best-loved songs recorded with a full orchestra and electronic combined with the band and AMY LEE’s virtuoso piano and voice. Listen to the first single and new song “Imperfection” below and pre-order the new album (here).

AMY LEE describes the meaning behind “Imperfection,”For me, this is the most important song on the album. I struggled with the lyrics for a long time because there was a lifetime of work to live up to and I wasn’t sure what to say or how to be good enough. When it finally started pouring out of me, it was undeniable. I had no choice. It’s for all the people we’ve lost, all the people who we could lose, to suicide and depression. I’m singing from the perspective of the person left behind, the person in the waiting room. It’s a plea to fight for your life, to stay. Don’t give into the fear- I have to tell myself that every day. Nobody is perfect.  We are all imperfect, and it’s precisely those imperfections that make us who we are, and we have to embrace them because there’s so much beauty in those differences. Life is worth fighting for. You are worth fighting for.”

EVANESCENCE–lead singer-songwriter and pianist AMY LEE, bassist TIM MCCORD, drummer WILL HUNT, lead guitarist/backing vocalist TROY MCLAWHORN and guitarist JEN MAJURA–worked with producers WILL HUNT and orchestra arranger and composer David Campbell on SYNTHESIS. SYNTHESIS will also feature two new EVANESCENCE songs, including the first single “Imperfection” and “Hi-Lo,” the latter of which includes a guest performance by famed violinist Lindsey Stirling.

Both Standard CD & Digital versions of SYNTHESIS are available now for pre-order (here), as well as a limited-edition deluxe box of the album, which includes the CD, a DVD featuring a documentary on making the album as well as instrumental and 5.1 Surround Sound mixes of the songs.

Amy Lee – Photo by P.R. Brown

EVANESCENCE return this fall with SYNTHESIS, their fourth studio album, slated for a Fall 2017 release. The group today, August 14, announced the “Synthesis Live” tour will launch this fall beginning October 14 on the west coast (confirmed dates below). Like the album, “Synthesis Live” will feature a reimagining of some of EVANESCENCE’s best-loved songs with the spotlight on full orchestra, electronics  combined with the band and Amy Lee’s virtuoso piano and voice.

“This is a total passion project for me. There are so many layers in our music, underneath the huge drums and guitars,” explains AMY LEE of EVANESCENCE. “I’ve always wanted to shine a light on some of the gorgeous David Campbell arrangements and programming elements in our songs, and that idea snowballed into completely re-doing them with full orchestra, not just strings, elaborate programming and experimentation. This will be our first time touring with orchestra and I’m so excited to perform this way-really focus on the vocals, and the emotion and the story we’ve built over the years. I’m also really excited about the new material on the album. Besides the two new songs, there are some really beautiful instrumental in-between moments. The whole thing flows like a big, dynamic soundtrack.”

“Synthesis Live” fan and VIP pre-sales are on-sale beginning tomorrow (Tuesday, August 15) with general on-sale–beginning Friday, August 18. Every ticket sold will come with a download of the new album, SYNTHESIS when it is released later this fall.  As an added bonus, ticket buyers will also receive songs from the album prior to the album’s release date, beginning with a stunning new reworking of the band’s biggest hit, “Bring Me To Life,” which will be available for download to all ticket buyers as well as on streaming services and in digital stores beginning this Friday (August 18).   A variety of VIP ticket packages are available to ensure fans obtain the best seats in the house.  Other VIP benefits include the opportunity to meet and enjoy a champagne toast with the band, attend their soundcheck, and receive exclusive merchandise items.  For full tour details go to: www.evanescence.com. Evanescence’s Amy Lee Scores With ‘Aftermath’ Soundtrack

Evanescence’s Amy Lee Scores With ‘Aftermath’ Soundtrack

Amy Lee

Amy Lee

Aftermath, music from and inspired by the independent film “War Story,” represents a plethora of “firsts” for Amy Lee, founder/ vocalist/songwriter for the multi-Platinum rock band Evanescence.  It marks her most significant entree to date into the world of film scoring, her first album release since 2011’s Evanescence self-titled album, the first time she’s worked on a project of her original material that wasn’t a full-blown, high-budget major production, and it represents an entirely new writing process.   Aftermath was a collaboration between Lee, Dave Eggar and Chuck Palmer, and while the music on it may be a 180-degree turn from what Evanescence fans have come to expect, it has Amy Lee’s fingerprints all over it.  Aftermath is available digitally today, Monday, August 25 via Amazon.com and iTunes (Ingrooves).

Check out a bit of the album’s song “Lockdown” HERE.

“‘War Story’ is a very dark, very introspective film,” said Lee, “so the music on ‘Aftermath’ is not what my fans will be expecting.  We’ve combined all sorts of different sounds – synthesizers, cellos, trombones, harps – all on top of each other.  In many ways, we didn’t write a traditional soundtrack album, we used music to create a series of atmospheres.”

Lee is particularly excited about the song that opens  Aftermath, “Push the Button,” an electronic track that she performed, recorded, engineered, produced, and mixed.  “It’s quite a departure for me,” said Lee, “but Mark (Jackson, the film’s writer/director) had the perfect scene in the film for it.”

Eggar, a classically-trained composer and musician who studied at Juilliard and Harvard, has worked together with Lee for more than a decade, primarily on acoustic versions of Evanescence songs.  Eggar originally brought Lee into the Aftermath project  to provide vocals on a handful of songs for the film, but one thing led to another, and her contributions mushroomed.  For Lee, the experience with Eggars was liberating, with Eggar and “War Story” Jackson having created an environment that was creatively galvanizing.

Lee’s internationally renowned band Evanescence has sold more than 25-million albums worldwide.  The band’s 2003 debut album, Fallen, spent 43 weeks in Billboard’s Top 10, and 104 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart.  Fallen produced two Top 10 singles, “Bring Me To Life” and “My Immortal,” and Evanescence won two Grammys at the 2004 awards show, one for Best New Artist and one for Best Hard Rock Performance. Fallen  went on to achieve seven-times-Platinum status in the U.S., Canada and Australia, and was certified Gold or Platinum in thirty-eight other countries.   Subsequent studio albums, The Open Door (2006) and the self-titled album (2011) each debuted in the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200 and achieved gold, silver or platinum status in multiple countries around the world.  The band received a third Grammy nomination for The Open Door track “Sweet Sacifice” (Best Hard Rock Performance).  The band’s 2004 live DVD release, Anywhere But Home, has achieved five-times Platinum worldwide status.  Lee herself has been honored with the National Music Publishers’ Association’s Songwriter “Icon Award,” and by United Cerebral Palsy of New York as part of its “Women Who Care” program.

“War Story” premiered at January’s Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically in the U.S. on July 30 through IFC Films.  The film stars Catherine Keener, Hafsia Herzi and Ben Kingsley, and tells the story of a battle-scarred photojournalist who risks her life to rescue a young refugee.  Variety wrote the film is “a quietly powerful drama…critical kudos should be plentiful.”

Syd Duran of Valora Discusses The Band’s Highly Anticipated Debut Album!

Syd Duran of Valora Discusses The Band’s Highly Anticipated Debut Album!

It is no secret that rock music has been in dire need of transfusion of new creative blood for years now. Luckily, frontwoman Syd Duran and her bandmates are about to breathe some life back into the scene. For their upcoming debut album, “I Waited for You,” was produced by Grammy-nominated Johnny K (Disturbed, Finger 11) and mixed by Neil Avron (Fallout Boy, Linkin Park.) Throughout the album’s 11 tracks, Syd sings with fearsome conviction, summoning all the just powers of rock into her three-octave range. But Syd is about more than technique or stage presence. She has stories to tell: stories about isolation and betrayal, of misbegotten love and life out of whack. As the album shows, her rock vocal chops would mean nothing if Syd didn’t sing from the heart. It’s simple and raw – no horns, no synths, no auto-tuned perfection. Valora’s passion, soul and dedication to their craft is something that has turned the heads of industry insiders, music critics and won them legions of fans. However, at the end of the day, it is the band’s unique and powerful sound that has quickly established then as one of the top band’s to watch in 2012! Icon Vs. Icon recently took part in a Q&A with Syd Duran to gain some insight on the origins of Valora, the making of  “I Waited for You,” and what fans can look forward to in the months to come.

Syd Duran of Valora

What are your first memories of music in your life?

I was raised in the church, and grew up listening to a lot of gospel singers. As a kid, I remember listening to Yolanda Adams while completing my chores.

What made you pursue music as a career instead of going a s different route?

Singing was the only thing I truly loved to do. For as long as I can remember, music was more than hobby, but a lifestyle for me.

Who would you cite as your biggest influences as an artist?

Jack White.

For those who may not be familiar with the band. How did Valora come about originally?

I started the band in 2008. Our current single “I Waited For You” was already written, and I was ready to get it out there for the world to hear. I searched for other musicians who were as committed to music as I was, and we began performing anywhere that would have us.

What is the meaning behind the band’s name, Valora?

Essentially it means “valor.” With that comes strength and empowerment, which are all things I have tried to incorporate in the writing of Valora music.

What can you tell us about your typical writing process?

There’s nothing typical about it. I have to have an open mind when I’m getting ready to write a song. I love collaborations as well as writing on my own with acoustic guitar. It really depends on the personalities and preferences of the group of songwriters you are working with. Sometimes we have a semi-produced track that we sit down and write to. Other times we start compeletly from scratch.

You wrote some songs with Kara DioGuardi. What did you learn during that process?

I learned that honesty is the key to heartfelt music.

You worked with Ahmet Zappa on a graphic novel. What can you tell us about it?

The album shaped the experience of creating the graphic novel. The stories and illustrations were inspired by the music.

Coming In April of 2012

As an artist, what was the biggest challenge in putting the album together?

I wrote over 100 songs for this album. The challenge was holding out for the best group of songs to put on the final track list.

You worked with Johnny K on the record. What did he bring to the table for a project like this?

Johnny really understands the importance of purity in music. What you hear on the recorded album is what you will hear during Valora’s live performance, particularly in regards to vocals.

The album’s release date will be here before you know it. How are the tour plans coming along and is that something your are looking forward to?

Touring is the best part! I can’t wait to get on the road and begin really promoting the album!

What do you hope people come away with after seeing your live show?

My goal is to take them to a place they weren’t expecting to go. I don’t hold back anything in my live performance, and my intention is to overwhelm the audience with an outrageous performance, submerging them in Valora’s world for as long as we are on the stage.

You were featured in Revolver Magazine as part of their ‘Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock’. That is a pretty big honor. Do you feel that has had any impact on the band’s growth?

Absolutely! I am so thankful to Revolver Magazine for giving me the opportunity to stand alongside legendary frontwomen like Amy Lee.

This debut album has been a long time in the making and is shaping up to be very impressive. What is the biggest thing you have you learned about yourself long the way?

I learned that public speaking (interviews) doesn’t have to be a scary, dreadful thing. The more I do it, the more I like it!

What is the best piece of advice that you can pass along to someone who wants to pursue a career in music?

I believe the songs are still the most important factor in setting you apart from everyone else crowding up the music industry. If you have a great song, you have a chance.

In your opinion, what does the future hold for Valora? Both long term and short?

As the front woman of Valora, and as an individual, I’ve seen and experienced… A LOT. Some days are great, and others, seriously unfortunate. I can confidently say that nothing will hinder Valora’s constant creation of new music. The future looks bright and promising.

The Pretty Reckless’ “Make Me Wanna Die” Makes A Splash On iTunes After Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Taylor Momsen

Nearly a week after their single “Make Me Wanna Die” opened up last Tuesday’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, The Pretty Reckless is still holding strong in the top 10 on the iTunes Rock charts, after climbing to the #3 spot last week.  Their album Light Me Up has been a mainstay on the iTunes Rock section since its official release in February, and reached #11 last week.

Taylor Momsen and her band recently finished a 3 show stint opening up for Guns N’ Roses, and just returned from a North American and European tour with Evanescence. The band will head to Australia in early 2011 for a string of dates with the Soundwave Revolution Festival.

Light Me Up is available now on iTunes. For more info on the band, visit their official site at ThePrettyReckless.com.
