Legendary Rockers Queen Release Killer Queen Vodka

Legendary Rockers Queen Release Killer Queen Vodka

The ultimate accompaniment to any band’s rider, and drink of choice for the legendary late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury – Queen have unveiled a premium Freddie Mercury celebratory vodka, ‘Killer Queen’.

Released on the 40th anniversary of the multiplatinum single – and undeniable masterpiece – of the same name, Killer Queen – which featured on 1974 album Sheer Heart Attack – has been established by the band to honour Mercury’s invaluable contribution to music, which still continues to inspire to this day.

RnR Brew has partnered with Bravado and the ‘Original’ Stoli spirits producer SPI / Latvijas Balzams in the EU, to produce Freddie Mercury’s favourite tipple a “Legendary vodka” with Killer Queen vodka.

Killer Queen vodka is produced in batches from the highest quality GMO free unadulterated EU wheat. The vodka is “well versed in etiquette”, seven times distilled using an ancient original vodka filtration process of quartz sand and birch charcoal with a unique filtration process at the final stage. The water in Killer Queen vodka has been taken from a 600ft historical artisan well at source, which gives Killer Queen vodka its exquisite smooth original taste and is “guaranteed to blow your mind, anytime.”

On a recent visit to the Stoli vodka production plant in Riga, Latvia, Brian May described the factory as ‘the Willy Wonka chocolate factory for adults. Reminiscing fond times with Mercury during his time in Queen upon the launch of Killer Queen vodka, guitarist Brian May says, “Freddie loved vodka and used to carry a dry ice cooler full of vodka with him on tour. Killer Queen Vodka is the perfect tribute to Freddie and using Killer Queen as the brand name was the perfect choice for us, and we know Freddie would have approved.”

Queen have now sold over 300 million albums worldwide, they are a band that continue to proudly hold their place within the Top 10 bestselling recorded acts of all time. Their frontman Freddie Mercury once proclaimed, “’I am not going to be a star. I am going to be a legend” and he has stayed true to his word.

Mercury’s iconic status now lives on through Killer Queen vodka, and this launch comes at a time when Queen reflect on and celebrate one of the band’s – and Mercury’s – greatest live performance moments with the multi format release on September 8 of Queen Live At the Rainbow ’74 a rare recording made at legendary London venue The Rainbow in 1974 which has been held in the archive for 40 years and is now being heard live for the first time. Among the unique material contained in this DVD and CD release are over a dozen tracks never previously released on any official Queen live album, lovingly restored, edited, mixed and digitally mastered.

These recordings capture Queen at that time in all their glory: the dramatic stage presence, the highly original self-penned repertoire of songs, high-energy performances coupled with stunning melodic and harmonic content, and the uncompromising perfectionist approach to every aspect of their performance which is still maintained to this day. An approach which is carried through in the flawless quality of Killer Queen vodka.

Killer Queen vodka is 40% ABV (80 proof) and available in measurements of 700ml and 750ml. It will launch in UK on September 17th and will retail at approx. £25 (incl. VAT), with International markets following later in 2014.

A vodka inspired by the golden era of Queen’s reign upon rock music, steeped in 40 years of history and endorsed by a band that continues to blaze years more. “When you’ve tasted success as beautifully as I have, you don’t want to let go in a hurry,” Mercury once said. With a favoured taste for vodka that resonated throughout him, Killer Queen will forever be a seven times distilled reminder of his high proof success.

On The Rise: ROK Stars Launches Bogart’s Gin

On The Rise: ROK Stars Launches Bogart’s Gin

Bogart's Gin: A True Classic

Bogart’s Gin: A True Classic

ROK Stars, the consumer products company co-founded by U.S. billionaire John Paul DeJoria and U.K. entrepreneur Jonathan Kendrick, has partnered with the Humphrey Bogart Estate to launch Bogart’s Gin.

John Paul DeJoria, who is no stranger to success in the spirits business, could not conceal his enthusiasm when discussing Bogart’s Gin: “We have the world’s best small-batch, hand-crafted artisanal gin!  Botanically infused and distilled in England, each bottle will feature the name and face of Humphrey Bogart, one of the biggest Hollywood icons of all time and a true gin enthusiast.  We cannot wait for people to hold the bottle and taste our gin.  It’s spectacular!”

“My father loved gin” added Stephen Bogart, son of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall “so I am thrilled about this partnership.  For the Bogart Estate to lend my father’s name to a project, we look for a great partner and an authentic connection.  It doesn’t get any better than teaming with the co-founder of Patron Tequila to bring Bogart’s Gin to the world.  Like Bogie, the gin is classic, no-nonsense, and smooth.  Since my father was a very quotable man, each bottle will contain a great Bogart quote.”

Robbert de Klerk, who co-manages the Humphrey Bogart Estate with Stephen Bogart, further explained the Estate’s enthusiasm about the authenticity of the partnership: “Gin was invented in The Netherlands and perfected in England and Humphrey Bogart is of Dutch and English ancestry.  Bogie loved gin, and it was one of his private passions that he incorporated in his film performances.  Casablanca’s Rick Blaine was a chess player because Humphrey Bogart was a passionate chess player.  The boat in Key Largo was named Santana after Bogie’s own boat.  And gin featured in his films because Humphrey Bogart loved to drink gin.  We are very proud of Bogart’s Gin.”

Jonathan Kendrick, the British entrepreneur who co-founded ROK Stars with his friend John Paul DeJoria, added: “We believe the Bogart name is a perfect fit to our outstanding botanically-infused English gin.  With gin’s popularity on the rise, and given Humphrey Bogart’s on-screen and off-screen love of gin, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

Lyon Distilling Company: Maryland’s Latest Craft Distillery Opens On The Eastern Shore

Lyon Distilling Company: Maryland’s Latest Craft Distillery Opens On The Eastern Shore

After successfully navigating small town zoning, lengthy permit processes, and a government shutdown, the Lyon Distilling Company of St. Michaels, MD is proud to be Maryland’s only full production distillery to open in nearly half a century.

Booze You Can Use!

Booze You Can Use!

Ben Lyon and Jaime Windon, both spirits enthusiasts and young entrepreneurs, wanted to revive Maryland’s illustrious distilling history with handcrafted spirits.  “Many distillers bat around the terms ‘craft’, ‘local’, and ‘handmade’ without any actual meaning.  For a small distillery, it’s all about quality and integrity, so everything in the bottle we make here, starting with the raw ingredients.  To be the only distillery in the state producing spirits in this way is exciting, especially for people who have never seen the process,” said Ben Lyon, co-founder and distiller at Lyon Distilling Company.

Lyon Distilling Company launched with three varieties of rum: white, seasonal, and barrel aged.  “Made with a combination of cane sugar and molasses, and distilled with traditional style pot stills, the base spirit has a complexity and body which simply don’t exist in commercially available products,” said co-founder Jaime Windon.  “Our rum has already opened eyes about what small batch distilling is all about – from the first sip, there is simply no comparison to what most of our visitors are used to.”  In addition to making Maryland’s only known rum, the distillery will also be releasing a series of whiskies and liqueurs in the coming months.

Lyon Distilling Company is open from 12-6 every day for tours, tastings and sales.

The founders of Lyon Distilling Company, Ben Lyon, 31, and Jaime Windon, 33, are both lifelong food and drink enthusiasts, and share a passion for creating sustainable local economic impact.  Lyon gained experience as a home brewer and working at a small brewery and distillery after college, while Windon, a professional photographer, also has extensive experience in the bar and restaurant business.  For more information, please visit www.facebook.com/lyondistilling, or contact the distillery through liquor@lyondistilling.com or (443) 333-9181.
