ABOVE GROUND: Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison To Play Mental Health Benefit Show

ABOVE GROUND: Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison To Play Mental Health Benefit Show

Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) and Billy Morrison (Billy Idol) have joined forces with their musician friends and special guest performers to present ABOVE GROUND” on Monday, April 16 at The Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. This immersive evening of art and music-beginning at 8pm-will celebrate the vinyl album as an art form, and at the same time raise awareness and funds for the treatment of mental health, with the profits being donated to MusiCares. Expect the musicians to perform two seminal albums in their entirety-first Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam And The Ants and then The Velvet Underground & Nico by Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground-with completely different stage sets and production for each album’s performance.

Tickets are priced at $100 each and go on sale Saturday, February 24 starting at 10:00am via ticketmaster.com and livenation.com. View a trailer for the event here and read an interview with Navarro and Morrison below.

Guitarists Navarro and Morrison will be joined by bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction), drummers Erik Eldenius (Billy Idol) and Josh Freese as well as violinist Lili Haydn, plus special guests Billy Idol, Courtney Love, Jesse Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal), Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Franky Perez and more.

During the intermission between performances, there will be speeches from people in the mental health field and a small memorabilia auction to raise funds, along with art displays and information booths. Revolver Gallery will showcase works by Andy Warhol and MusiCares (currently focusing on the mental health arena and all the challenges that are faced in that field)will be present at the event.

When Navarro and Morrison sat down over coffee recently and started to talk about music, art, the lost love of the vinyl record, and at the same time their own mental health and their different battles in the same arena, it became apparent immediately that they both wanted to do the same thing–to celebrate life, to pay homage to records that truly shaped them both as musicians, and at the same time to raise awareness, funds and hope for people suffering from depression. This is how ABOVE GROUND was born.

The way music is recorded, performed and heard has changed dramatically over the years. The days of vinyl albums, lovingly crafted and put together, with the all important side two flip of the physical record has disappeared. The idea of a story that gets told throughout the album has largely faded away.

There is also a disastrous loss of amazing talent through the twin tentacles of suicide and depression. The common misconception that an artist who is “famous” or “rich” has nothing to be depressed about is just a complete falsehood. Moreover, the act of asking for help is still something that is shrouded in misplaced embarrassment, humiliation and shame.

Ozzfest Meets Knofest Announces It’s Triumphant Return!

Ozzfest Meets Knofest Announces It’s Triumphant Return!

One of the biggest events in music, Ozzfest Meets Knofest, has announced it’s triumphant return. The events will be head on Saturday, November 4 (OZZFEST) and Sunday, November 5 (KNOTFEST) at Glen Helen Amphitheater And Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, CA. Special pre-fest kickoff Friday, November 3 for all ticketed campers. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 14 at 10:00 AM (PT) at OZZFEST.COM and KNOTFEST.COM. Early ticket prices range from $29.00 for a single day GA lawn ticket to $239.00 for two-day GA pit passes; a variety of VIP packages are also available for each day.

OZZY OSBOURNE:  “Last year’s show with Black Sabbath was just incredible and I’m thrilled to be coming back this year with Zakk, Tommy, Blasko and Adam to headline the 21st anniversary of Ozzfest.”

CLOWN:  “It’s that incredible time again where Ozzfest and Knotfest meet up to bring all music fans together for two days of Rock and Roll.  Let’s not forget the beautiful culture we are involved in and the history that is being written. Join the true passion of our concepts. I’ll see you there. Stay (sic).”

SHARON OSBOURNE:  “Ozzfest Meets Knotfest is coming back for another round.  Last year we had over 75,000 people attend and we have another great lineup this year with Ozzy’s first solo show in L.A. in more than six years.  This is not just another show…it’s Ozzfest Meets Knotfest!  And this year’s event means the world to me as we’ll be amongst friends like Prophets of Rage, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Marilyn Manson and Stone Sour…it’s going to be another amazing weekend.”

COREY TAYLOR: “Knotfest was never supposed to be exclusively about Slipknot. It was always about the things that fueled the spirit of Slipknot: music, art, passion, insanity, and the tribes that give it power. So it would make sense for Knotfest to carry on these ideas, even without Slipknot. Because these things are the gasoline of creativity, and there’s plenty to go around, with plenty of great bands, acts and things to see.  Teaming up again with Ozzfest means another weekend of the biggest, baddest, loudest and best. I hope you all will join us; it’s going to be (sic).”

WORLDS COLLIDE: Ozzfest and Knotfest Join Forces For Mind-Blowing Double Header

WORLDS COLLIDE: Ozzfest and Knotfest Join Forces For Mind-Blowing Double Header

ozzfest-meets-knotfest-2016

Worlds have truly collided as the legendary Ozzfest and Knotfest have joined forces…the ultimate meeting of metal minds…a double-header music and lifestyle weekend like no other on the planet.

This merger of two of the most well-known and established brands in rock–OZZFEST, celebrating its 20th anniversary, and KNOTFEST, which debuted in 2012–is set for Saturday, September 24 (OZZFEST) and Sunday, September 25 (KNOTFEST) at San Manuel Amphitheater and Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, CA. Tickets for the Live Nation-produced OZZFEST MEETS KNOTFEST–a multi-stage, two-day weekend camping event with more than 40 acts–go on sale Friday, May 20 at 10:00 AM (PT) at OZZFEST.COM and KNOTFEST.COM. All the details and line-ups (below) were revealed at a major press conference today (Thursday, May 12) at the Palladium in Hollywood, CA.

Saturday’s OZZFEST will be headlined by Black Sabbath–marking their last Southern California performance as part of the band’s final tour–and Sunday’s KNOTFEST bill is topped by the festival’s namesake, Slipknot. On hand at the press conference were OZZFEST founder Ozzy Osbourne and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and M. Shawn Crahan (aka Clown). The event began with a movie screening, followed by a Q&A session with artists from the OZZFEST MEETS KNOTFEST bill and concluded with a p
erformance from Zakk Sabbath, led by Zakk Wylde.

“We are here to create havoc and history,” says Ozzy Osbourne. “Let the madness begin…”

“This could be the one of the coolest things I’ve ever been a part of,” says Corey Taylor of Slipknot. “Starting out as an Ozzfest band, coming into our own with Knotfest and now combining forces to make a little metal history…it was meant to be and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

“Playing with Black Sabbath is always an honor,”Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot exclaims. “Merging both festivals will be a legendary experience that will be life-changing for all fans. We are excited to bring all the families together again.”

“We want it to be the loudest, biggest, dirtiest festival in California. We couldn’t be happier,” says Sharon Osbourne.

“The impact of Ozzfest on heavy music and on Slipknot, cannot be underestimated,” says Cory Brennan, President, 5B Artist Management. “For 20 years Ozzfest has given fans their first glimpse at bands like Slipknot, Disturbed and countless others, but also bringing new fans and bands together every year. Ozzfest inspired Slipknot to continue this vital tradition with Knotfest, and it’s an honor to celebrate our genre alongside them in 2016.”

The San Manuel Amphitheater and Festival Grounds is where OZZFEST–the event that launched the U.S. hard rock festival market and went on to tour the world–began in 1996 and where KNOTFEST last year took over the San Bernardino, CA venue and expanded into a camping festival. There’s also a longtime history between the two namesakes of the events, with Slipknot appearing at OZZFEST in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2013 at the inaugural OZZFEST Japan.

The OZZFEST MEETS KNOTFEST 2016 line-up is as follows, with both OZZFEST and KNOTFEST dedicating a stage in honor of their departed comrade Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead.

KORN To Close Out 20th Anniversary Celebration With Headlining Tour This October

KORN To Close Out 20th Anniversary Celebration With Headlining Tour This October

korn-2014

Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum hard rock innovators KORN are topping off their 20th anniversary celebrations with something special for their fans. Today (July 21), the band has announced they will head out on the road for one last turn in 2015 to perform their debut album KORN in its entirety.  A limited amount of tickets and early entry packages will go up on KORN.com tomorrow, Wednesday, July 22 at 10 am local time.  Regular tickets go on sale this Friday, July 24 at 10 am in most markets.

The 20th anniversary shows, which started in 2014, were so well-received that the band-Jonathan Davis (vocals),  James “Munky” Shaffer (guitar), Brian “Head” Welch (guitar), Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu (bass) and Ray Luzier (drums)–wanted to bring this iteration of the live show into an intimate setting for the core fanbase.  Starting on October 1 at Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, the band will set out on a month-long tour around the U.S. to perform the album that started it all at iconic venues including The Fillmore in Detroit, Irving Plaza in New York City, The Tabernacle in Atlanta, Stubbs in Austin and the Fox Theatre in Oakland, CA.  At each show, fans will get to experience KORN two decades later and be able to request which songs from the band’s massive catalogue should make up the encore. Joining KORN on the tour are special guests Suicide Silence and Islander.

KORN’s self-titled debut album, which was released in May 1994, has been heralded by Rolling Stone as “the most important metal album of the last 20 years.”  Produced by Ross Robinson, the critically acclaimed album featured singles “Blind,” “Shoots and Ladders,” “Clown” and “Need To.”  With little mainstream support, Davis’ dark and disturbing lyrics alongside KORN’s new and unique hyper-aggressive soundtrack, KORN went on to sell over two million albums worldwide.

Wrote Christopher Weingarten of Rolling Stone (12/11/14), “While aging metalheads were trying to walk confidently through alternative nation, Korn lurched into the world like hip-hop zombies rocking Adidas tracksuits, baggy jeans and untamed dreadlocks. Their eclecticism was a pre-iTunes shuffle jumble: the whinnies and whines of Cypress Hill, the goth bravado of the Cure, the thwapping double-kicks of Primus, the 808 hit of a Rick Rubin brick-breaker, meth-fueled Boredoms-style scatting, and bass strings that sounded like a bask of crocodiles tangled in industrial-sized rubber bands. While Pantera’s Phil Anselmo grumbled chest-puffing lines like ‘I f***ed your girlfriend last night,’ Korn’s frail Jonathan Davis screamed, ‘I’m a faggot.’ Pearl Jam and Tool couched their torment in poetry and anonymity; but Korn put everything on the line, especially with ‘Daddy,’ a harrowing song about Davis being molested as a child that ends with nearly four minutes of the singer sobbing in the vocal booth.”

Look for KORN to return with a new album in 2016.

Check out KORN’s recent remix of Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” here.

Stone Sour To Release ‘House Of Gold & Bones Pt. 2’ On April 9th!

Stone Sour To Release ‘House Of Gold & Bones Pt. 2’ On April 9th!

stone-sour-2013

Grammy-nominated rock band Stone Sour will release House of Gold & Bones  Pt. 2, the second part of their two album series, House of Gold & Bones, on Roadrunner Records , April 9, 2013.  Recorded at Sound Farm Studios just outside of the band’s native Des Moines, Iowa with producer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse) at the helm, House of Gold & Bones Pt. 1 of the album has met with early rave reviews worldwide“…by far the most accomplished album of Stone Sour’s career.  Depth, emotion and spirit seem to infuse everything.  2013 has ‘Stone Sour’ written all over it.” – 4Ks – KERRANG! (UK).

stonesour-houseofgoldandbone2

House of Gold & Bones Pt. 2

The first single from House of Gold & Bones Pt. 2, “Do Me A Favor” will be available digitally on February 12, 2013; the video for “Do Me A Favor” will be directed by Phil Mucci whose video for “Fertile Green” from High On Fire was named best video of 2012 by Revolver Magazine.  The first single from House of Gold & Bones Pt. 1, “Absolute Zero”, raced up the charts to number one at Active and Mainstream Rock radio in just weeks.  Billboard Magazine called it “A ruthless hard rocker, the track pummels the listener in the gut…”

Stone Sour will be performing at the 2013 Revolver Magazine Golden Gods Awards May 2, 2013 in Los Angeles.  They are nominated for three awards – “Best Vocalist,” “Album of the Year” for House of Gold & Bones Pt. 1 and “Best Drummer” for Roy Mayorga.  Additionally Slipknot, lead singer Corey Taylor’s other band, was also nominated in two categories – “Best Live Band” and “Most Dedicated Fans.”

Taylor recently performed at Sundance as part of the Sound City Players, Dave Grohl’s band of musicians assembled to play the original music they created in his directorial debut documentary, Sound City.  Sound City recounts the history of the Van Nuys, CA recording studio where Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Neil Young and of course Nirvana and Slipknot recorded so many of their classic works. The film also explores the human element of playing and recording music, as Grohl invites Sound City veterans to create new, original songs using the hallowed Neve 8028 recording console that Grohl purchased from the decommissioned studio in 2011.

Music is just one of the mediums used to tell the House of Gold & Bones story, and Taylor recently revealed details of the new project with Dark Horse Comics of the same name which follows, and expands on, the story contained within the albums.  With stunning covers from Jason Shawn Alexander (Empty Zone, Batman, Abe Sapien), this limited four-issue series marks Taylor’s debut in the comics genre.  The first of the series will be out on April 17, 2013.

The album’s lead single “Still Swingin” peaked at #3 on the Active rock chart the current single, “Angels” is the #1 most added single at Active rock for the second week in a row.  “Still Swingin’” was also chosen as #6 on Kerrang’s 250 Greatest Rock Songs of 2012. Stone Sour’s Corey Taylor To Pen Comic Book Companion To ‘House Of Gold & Bones’

Stone Sour’s Corey Taylor To Pen Comic Book Companion To ‘House Of Gold & Bones’

Corey Taylor

Grammy-nominated musician and best-selling author Corey Taylor, the lyricist and lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour, is setting down the microphone and putting ink and images to paper in his new project with Dark Horse Comics—House of Gold & Bones!

With stunning covers from Jason Shawn Alexander (Empty Zone, Abe Sapien), this limited four-issue series marks Corey Taylor’s debut in the comics genre. “I’ve been a die-hard fan of comics, on every level, my entire life,” says Taylor. “This has been a dream of mine for years now, and this project was tailor made for a comic, no pun intended. I couldn’t have picked a better company than Dark Horse to make this a reality. I have loved several of their titles for many years, going back to ’92. If we can get this crazy world out of my head and onto the canvas, it’ll be the best thing I’ve ever attempted. And with Dark Horse, I have every confidence that’s exactly what we’ll do.”

House of Gold & Bones is a unique multimedia experience which includes two Stone Sour albums via Roadrunner Records (release date for Part 1 is October 22, with Part 2 following in 2013), videos, online presence, creative album packaging, live shows, and now the Dark Horse Comics series. Each element will follow and expand on the story. Taylor, already an internationally best-selling author, courtesy of last year’s Seven Deadly Sins, wrote the story—as well as the lyrics for the twenty-three tracks that make up the two albums—as a linear story line. The Stone Sour songs set the tone and follow the action, with Taylor’s House of Gold & Bones comic expanding on the story.

Corey Taylor will be signing in the Dark Horse Booth at New York Comic Con Saturday, October 12 at 3 p.m.!

Stone Sour’s House of Gold & Bones Part 1 album is on sale October 22, 2012!

House of Gold & Bones issue #1 is on sale April 17, 2013!
